2K Sports reveals The Bigs 2 for this summer
24
2K Sports has revealed it's developing a sequel for its arcade baseball title, The Bigs. Unsurprisingly titled The Bigs 2, there isn't much else to know beyond the game's announcement trailer (you can find that beyond the break), which shows off baseball greats Wade Boggs, Ozzie Smith, Reggie Jackson and Roberto Clemente getting their slug on. It's currently set for release this summer. While the game hasn't been confirmed for any platforms, you can bet 2K Sports will be knocking this one out of the park onto all major consoles.

I'd much rather they just develop a single, good baseball game rather than one crappy sim and one crappy arcade game. MLB 2K9 came out today, and for the fourth consecutive year, the game is riddled with glitches, unfinished, suspect gameplay, and missing major improvements that have been promised every year.
It's a shame that I have to consider dropping $400 on a PS3 just to play a good baseball game.

I agree MLB2k games this gen are all just rehashes. Its insulting that they just keep giving us the same tweaked experience. Who keeps falling for it and is buying this crap? Maybe people might start waking up when MLB212 rolls around

Does the PS3 have some exclusive baseball game I don't know about?

Soups, unfortunately, it's the only baseball game on the 360. If you're a baseball fan, it's either buy MLB 2K's trash product for $60, or spend $460 on a PS3 and MLB The Show, which is actually a very good baseball game.
IT's not even necessarily rehashes... MLB 2K5 for the X-Box/PS2 was a good game, not as good as MVP, but a solid game. Somehow, the jump to 360, they stopped making good games... packed with untold glitches. And here it is 4 years later, and you have fielders having routine balls pop off their head, weird base running/fielding decisions, a hitting system that still may unevenly favor homeruns to everything else... Eh, we'll see how this one turns out, but darn it's frustrating.

Yeah, the PS3 has MLB The Show '09, made by SCEA... which was a great, great baseball game last year, and this year's looks to really build on that. It's heavy on the sim, with a deep franchise and career mode... Check it out.

I was playing the demo as the Phillies and that happened with Raul Ibaenz; and I had one of those "WHOA Just like in real life" moments.
That being said, demo was alright, nothing special. I wouldn't drop 60 bucks on it; but if they released it at 20, I might have taken a look at the full product. I've also thought about dropping the cash down for a ps3 and The Show, of course it's not the only thing I'd be getting the ps3 for. ;)

Who's making it? Blue Castle is busy with Dead Rising 2, and I doubt they have the resources for two games at once.

This is great news. I loved the first Bigs, and while I certainly liked the MLB 2K9 demo better than last year, it still felt a little off. Can't wait for this!

i am a fan of both "real" sports games and "arcade" sports games, and the bigs was without a doubt the most fun "arcade" baseball game i have played. now if the same team could work on some hockey, basketball, and football, then we'd be in business.

As for arcade hockey, I'd recommend the new XBLA game NHL 3 on 3 Faceoff by EA Sports Freestyle. It's a ton of fun and it's 800 points.

Something tells me they'd probably use the revamped ESPN NFL 2K5 engine they debuted for All-Pro Football 2K8.

MLB 2KWhatever=sucks, MLB "The Show"=sucks and boring, The Bigs=fun because you have real-world players with superhuman traits and abilities. "Realistic" baseball games are boring as crap and too complicated to pick up and play. Give me a game without a 2 hour learning curve please. The Bigs control scheme is brilliant and simplistic while also offering a challenge. Can't wait for this game. I'm actually gonna buy a second baseball game in my lifetime...the first one was The Bigs.

I totally agree. I want my sports game to be fun, not completely boring and frustrating like MLB2K9 and the show.
