Remember earlier today when we revealed the first image of A Boy and His Blob from Nintendo Power's exclusive story? Well, we lied a little bit when we said that the pixelated image you saw then wasn't going to be revealed until March 5. No folks, we got the full details (well, the first full page of details at least) early from our good buddies at Nintendo Power, and are happy to report that A Boy and His Blob looks to recreate all the enjoyment you had with the original.
Jellybean-related gameplay and the game's story are back for a second run in the Majesco-published, WayForward-developed Wii game and it's set to hit retailers this Fall, according to the NP piece. WayForward, known for recent WiiWare horror/puzzler LIT and technologically impressive Shantae for Game Boy Color, will be hand-drawing all the (yes, 2D) visuals. It's also adding to the original's defensive and puzzle-solving jellybeanery with beans that turn your blob into various offensive items (some examples given are anvil dropping and ground removing). If you want more details (and an interview with the game's director) you'll just have to wait until you get your grubby little mitts on the April issue of Nintendo Power.

I was so excited to hear about the DS game, and so disappointed to hear that it had been canceled.
I don't get NP any more; seemed like a frivolous cost to keep getting a propaganda mag about a company I'll probably always be blindly loyal to.
Also; why isn't this under a Wii tag? Reading the article isn't the way I like to get my information off of Joystiq. ^_^;;

More importantly, why does the story not mention WayForward's greatest title, Contra 4?

Nice 2D draws... very clean and high quality. I hope the animation is as good as Wario Land.

meh, doesnt look as gorgous as Wario Land or Muramasa (I know, I know, that last one isnt a fair comparison) and doesn't seem as attractive as Broken Sword. Still, I love the original (still hunting for a reasonably priced original cartridge) so I'll be picking this one up for sure

Well... the design is simple and clean... it doesn't look as good as Oboro Muramasa (but again, that game has a superb art style and graphics... hard to match)...
But we have only seen 2 gameplay screens... the art fits perfectly with the game: charming, simple, clean... I guess we will have to wait for some gameplay footage to see if the animations are great or not.
And for the people who haven't seen Murama in action, enjoy:

Vanillaware has some truly great 2D artists (developer for Muramasa; also did GrimGrimoire and Odin Sphere). And Wario Land was drawn by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, the first two Evangelion movies, etc.), and the quality of its animation shows, too.
I really don't think WayForward can compete with that. Not to say it'll be bad, mind you. WayForward is a very talented bunch, and I'm very eager to see this play out.

I hope 2D gaming (sprite based) never die... there are very few 2D retail game these days, but they are as pretty as any 3D game: WarioLand: Shake It, Oboro Muramasa, this game... and a few WiiWare and LiveArcade games too.
I heart 2D Sprites =p

That new King Of Fighters looks good as well as the street fighter 2 hd remix on PSN and Live. I don't think they will ever die altogether but they will become less and less relevant as we continue to move forward. To be honest Wario Shake It is actually my favorite Wii game as I thought it had the best combination of charm, graphics and gameplay. I wouldn't go as far as saying they are as pretty as any 3-D game because the nature of being strictly 2-D lends itself to being easier to make pretty because there are less variables to deal with. The problem with 2-D (as a games medium) is that there is only so much a developer can do with it. Now, I will say that Muramasa, Wario Shake It and a few others are pushing the limits of we thought was possible.

I love the art style.
Now that my 360 is on the fritz, I'm looking forward to Wii games again. Too bad it won't be out for awhile.

Good heavens I'm excited. And yes, Joe, I'm going to disagree. Wayforward seems to understand, though. They made Contra 4 hard.

I saw this article and had a huge Orgasm!
And then I read the word "retail" and it was like waking up and realising the person lying next to me is a man.
The thing is, as much as a snob as I may sound like, 2D (or 2.5D) games in general are shorter and have lack the depth (pun VERY much intended) of their 3d counterparts. Not to say I don't like 2d games. WoG was one of the best experiences I've had with a game, and currently I'm right into Mario & Luigi and Fire Emblem on the GBA (looking for more GBA games if anyone has some to sell). I just don't think they work well as a retail game for a home console. That's just me though... I know many of you (mainly ones that were born when 2d games were on home consoles) will disagree, but sadly I was raised on a 64 and a GBC. =รพ

Judging by the fact that they included a magazine scan, I would say it's an old school mag. :)
