ROTT brings me back, man. I remember being so bummed when it wouldn't run on my 386.

Rise of the Triad had the best Rocket Launchers in any videogame.

Before the Fatman, there was the Firebomb.

It probably would have run, but you'd have to reduce the screen to its smallest size (which came with a prompt 'Buy a 486').

Well, mine was the low end 12mhz 386sx with only 4 mb of ram. I could run doom in the tiny screen mode (just barely) but never ROTT.

Oh man I love me some ROTT. It wasn't great, but it had so many killer features and details that made it stand out back then. One was shooting an enemy almost to death, at which point he'd beg you to leave him alone. If you did, he'd shoot you once you turned your back. Another was that flame wall weapon. It had end results similar to Doom's BFG, but way cooler.

It makes me wonder why MS bought Bungie instead of 3D realms.Halo:CE made by 3D realms would've melted my face.

[Insert DNF reference of comparison here].

Though that would not have happened, since Bungie toiled away on Halo a while before MS bought them up.

(I'm at least 97% sure of that)

What has 3DRealms produced in the past decade that was worth MS's interest?

They published the Max Payne games but they didn't make them. They licensed out Prey to a different developer and published that, but they haven't made any good games since the 1990's themselves.

I shed a tear when I saw the Apogee logo.

I grew up playing Apogee,Sega and ID games (Blizzard and Valve are a bit later plus others I can't remember right now) *sniff.

Rise of the Triad was one of the best game I played back in the day.

Amen, pal. Apogee, Sierra, ID. There were a bunch of those Keen type games back then. I gobbled up those Space Quest, Police Quest, King's Quest, etc. games.

Not to mention the ol' BBS games like Trade Wars 2002, Legend of the Red Dragon. God I'm really dating myself here.

Let's go get some beers, get drunk by the campfire and reminisce.

Ooooooohh. King's Quest!

I played VI so much back then, but I never finished it.
I dug it up a few months ago to finally get some closure!

Ahhh, the good old days.... the Hand of God, Flamewall, and extreme gibs. The secret switches on the floor that you had to zoom in on the map to see where they were, then zoom out to find out what wall just moved. I loved ROTT on my 486 100MHz-DX4 with 1MB VGA graphics and 12MB RAM. Wolfenstein started it, Doom got all the credit, but ROTT was the best.

I remember loading up ROTT on Christmas only to find the characters on the start screen to be wearing Santa hats. lol. Thought that was awesome.

Also, extra GIBS was the best.. Wall of Flame. Rocket Launcher.

Shit was so cash.

I was so excited to see this announced. I hope more Apogee games are on the way, even some of the less "well known" titles like Mystic Towers.

I loved the maps in ROTT. The Vomitorium in particular, but the map for the last level was all sorts of messed up.

Oh man, I forgot about Rise of the Triad. Played through the demo or freeware or whatever it was back then a few times, but didn't have the game. Fun, though.

Oh man, ROTT was awesome. And deliciously silly. My favorite part was that it would use a Christmas theme around the holidays, according to the date on your system calendar. Winter break was that much more fun.

ROTT was one of the first FPS's I was exposed to back in the day. I remember the eye ball that would occasionally fly past the screen when you blew them up with the heat seaker. Good times!

I remember actually playing a high school friend in ROTT over dial-up, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. If I could have caught a glimpse of what Xbox Live was going to be like, my head probably would have exploded.
