Demigod preview vid features Brad Wardell walkthrough
The latest video of Demigod is actually a four-minute walkthrough of the game with Executive Producer (and Stardock CEO) Brad Wardell. It's been hard to describe Gas Powered Games' Demigod because it's not a conventional RTS. Players mainly focus on leveling up and keeping alive their main deity character, so there are a lot of RPG elements in the game as well.
The video does a solid job of describing what a typical multiplayer match is like. We've had some time with the beta, and the focus of the game is to keep the action going and avoid the micromanagement in normal RTS titles -- a match can be finished in about a half-hour. Although it's not shown in this video, the camera is completely free to set at whatever angle you'd like to experience the action, which is actually pretty cool once The Rook starts whaling on troops. This PC only title -- which once you play, you won't understand why that is -- will be available this April.

so this is DotA: the game
Derwin @ Mar 4th 2009 11:10PM
Exactly... come on Joystiq, it isn't that hard to describe.

I wonder if the DotA creater has some sort of IP licence over his mod? This seems like a pretty big rip off.
on second thoughts probably not since DotA is free to everybody

reminds me of Dota in Warcraft 3 online, though i was never good at that game :'(.
similar to adding RPG elements like Dawn of War 2 did, which i love btw. Have to look into this game.

Looks good. Glad to see more genre-bending and the absence of base building in an RTS.

Why won't I understand why this is PC only?
davema @ Mar 5th 2009 12:07AM
I guess a couple of people have already beaten me to it.
This is similar to a number of custom maps on Warcraft III and Starcraft, namely the various Arena style maps like DotA.

First off, DotA was stolen from Eul by IceFrog, and then made into a slandered, butchered, appeal to the idiots and immature players of the game, form called "Allstars".
Very few of you, if any, even know what DotA was really like, the story and lore it had around it, or any other factors of it.
Now it's just an item mash, and DemiGod hopefully, will not be ANYTHING like that.
HeX. @ Mar 5th 2009 1:39AM
Stolen ?
dude what are you babbling about !
Eul left developing of the map for Guinsoo, then Guinsoo left DotA after which IceFrog picked up Development.

I love have you redundantly have to qualify video game players of a certain game as 'immature'...
when this guy was talking about 'the forces of light and the forces of darkness', i could almost picture his mom bringing down a plate of oreo cookies and some milk... god.. its 2009, can we get past these totally boring cliches already?
Sure, cuz all gameplayers want to be Gods in a videogame to overcompensate for their ineffectualness in real life. Yawn. That old chestnut.
I thought Civlization came out in like 1990, you mean in like 20 years you fuckin game designers don't have ANY new ideas?
perfectchaos @ Mar 5th 2009 7:40PM
you do realize that almost every video game has you as the good guy fighting against the forces of evil, right? they just have different names put to them while this game choose to actually use light and darkness. and this game isn't anything like civilization...
LordJezo @ Mar 5th 2009 9:45AM
DotA for life!!

BassHunter is an idiot, I won the X-fire contest he had, and though his songs have some good in them, he is just an alcoholic, with serious depression and interaction issues.
Guinsoo was a lie, are you so blind? Eul wasn't gone, when they started working on his stuff, he LEFT because the game grew boring for him and because his work was stolen.
