That's what people said about EA, when they were known mainly for the sports titles they published and developed.

I wonder if we'll ever see another Legacy of Kain?

I would love that. LoK is just fantastic. It taught the writers of Lost the art of mindf*cking.

Whatever name iteration of they eventually come up with, I hope my favorite publisher from the 16 bit era gets represented with more than one letter.

May the Cloud Strife/Lara Croft love story commence!
Lara vs Yuna in a dual-gun Limit Break showdown in Dissidia 2!
JC Denton vs Squall...Tech vs Guardian Force!

I think Square's influence/take on some of the properties would be interesting. Legacy of Kain could use a hint of Square's magic. I would LOVE to see Square making using of their Unreal Engine license and cranking out a new Deus Ex (yes, I know 3 is coming). Give me Square's graphics expertise+unreal engine, throw in a little Parasite Eve (first one) weapon/level system, the best from Deus Ex (first one), you've got me sold.

Except Last Remnant kinda showed SE shouldn't really touch the Unreal Engine, at least for anything remotely RPG based.

Maybe they'll use the Unreal Engine to make a Tomb Raider game that has combat you can't sleep through. :P

How about just omitting Eidos from their name altogether? Let 'em know it's not that kind of takeover.

I know, it's not like they shoehorned Taito into their name.

It'll still be Square Enix. This isn't a merger (like Square & Enix, and Activision & Vivendi Games), but a buyout. Until the end of last year Eidos was just a brand for SCi who previously bought the company, and I expect Eidos to simply be a Square Enix brand for the company's Western games (e.g. those made by IOI and Eidos' other studios)

Actually, Square is dead. Enix is the "surviving partner." The company is called Square Enix and employs most of Square's old officers and employees because they're not stupid: Square's talent and name recognition is an asset; in fact it was the whole point of the acquisition. Same deal with Activision Blizzard.

You're right though, Eidos isn't really important enough to sit in a big-person's chair at the table. If there was something to be gained by making Eidos a title partner, they'd do it, but Tomb Raider doesn't have the clout that it used to.

So, does Lara get to summon Ifrit, or just shoot it's gums off?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think is a take-over not a merger. So Square-Enix would still be Square-Enix.

So does that mean the next Tomb Raider is going to use the Final Fantasy 13 game engine. That would be kind of cool, and they can put unlockable costumes like Lara Croft can dress up as Yuna from FFX, Tifa Lockhart from FFVII, or other type of possibility. Well because Square Enix got huge connection with Japanese animation and have their animation-CGI studio. There might be a chance that Hitman or Tomb Raider may get their own anime/CGI film.

At least now we can hope that the next Tomb Raider game won't have exclusive DLC like Underworld had.

I wonder what EA would be called if they just merged together the names of all the studios they've eaten over the years..
