I'm happy they are improving the interface, but it still kinda is hard to see, the info should be right where you're eyes are. Right at the bar or right above it. Still kinda too far ahead, but I really like the effort Neversoft.

In all seriousness, given that I haven't played guitar in a rhythm game since RB came out, I'm actually pretty excited about this game. The GH games have had quite some good songs, and revisiting their master tracks on the drums sounds good to me. Just hope they don't mess up the track list like with GH:A.

First thing I noticed too. +1 thing improved.

My big issue with GH:WT (among other things) was hit detection indication. In Rock Band I know if I hit a note, loose a streak, or was too late on hitting a note. When ever I played GH:WT I never new if I was hitting the notes. The notes just seem to fly by unaffected while in Rb the notes clearly shattered in front of my eyes. Hope thats improved.

Regardless, I wont be picking this up till it hits Target Clarence

Seriously. I can't play drums on WT because of those stupid GIGANTIC PURPLE EYESORES. They make it too hard to see what's going on when there's a ton of notes on the screen at once. Too bad the star power meter looks the same as WT and isn't a simple bar like the good Lord intended.

You guys didn't look carefully enough. With the pic on the front page, the one in the middle is a Star Phrase. The one on the right is what it'll normally look like. Still purple, just now with an outer shine!

You are all wrong. The Bass looks the same, that's a pulloff slap. I wish it weren't purple, it's really hard to see when using the purple highway.

I'm going to disagree. "Free Bird" (if it's in), "Welcome to the Jungle" (if that's in), and "Through the Fire and Flames" (which we know is in) on full band sounds plenty exciting to me.

Alas, I await GH: Buckethead, and GH: RATM. Buckethead will be for guitar only, Rage will be for vocals only. And I want the album versions. Not your dirty little child-friendly verses.

I do happen to like it, and a lot of the really quick strumming. However on the difficulty setting I enjoy playing it at I don't ever seem to succeed in finishing it. The next difficulty down it's just boring for me. I'll take Knights of Cedonia over it any day :)

And another attempt to cash in on the Guitar Hero name... are people seriously going to pay $60 for this? Think about the amount of time it must take to make a game like Halo 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4 versus the time it takes to slap together some note charts for music you already had the rights to...and they cost the same. Wow.

There's a lot of songs from GH and GH2 that I sometimes want to play again, but don't want to find my old PS2 instruments. Add the ability to play drums and sing now, as well as play bass on the songs from GH1, and you've got something that might be worth buying.

Besides, it's songs picked by Harmonix, so they must be better than anything Activision would put out otherwise ;-)

Well think about it this way, they didn't really have rights to a master track of killer queen. And it would be cool to watch someone play through the fire and flames on drums or sing the gay lyrics to it.

Rock Band and Rock Band 2 look EXACTLY the same in my eyes. The only difference being the little circle for your streak, which is skewed backward. Yet, people everywhere applaud their genius. Rock Band 2 wasn't a new game. It was a giant track pack. It's Rock Band 1 with a new, generic menu system, and at least 80 new tracks on the disc. Talk about a mediocre sequel.

Remember when Rock Band 2 came out and fanboys were defending what was essentially a patch for the original game with bonus songs by saying it's a much better deal since it's cheaper than it would be in DLC?

I know that pointing out Rock Band-biased double standards is almost as old and stupid as Rock Band-biased double standards themselves, but yeah, 48 best songs now with full band support @ $2 each = 96 dollars worth of DLC for $60.

Jakka, you fanboy. 84 (+20 dlc) songs + feature enhancements + a platform that lets you carry over DLC and songs from the first game is HARDLY a patch. The only people saying that were gh fanboys..

this is 48 songs for $60. Is it a better deal than if it were DLC? Naturally, but DLC pricing isn't the model you're comparing this too. Compare it to RB2, which gave you 2x the songs for the same price, or even GHWT. Then it's easy to see it as the cash in, money grab that it is.

Calling them THE BEST is subjective, as I know there will be shit on there I'm not interested in. Plus, while the songs are great for nostalgia, they're not going to be the same. The charts will be different and the engine is different. They won't play the same as we remember them and gameplay is what made the first two games great even when it was songs nobody knew.

THe GH franchise is adrift in the creative doldrums. The only way this genre gets pushed forward will be if Harmonix chooses to do it.

I'd be satisfied if it were an upgrade, since it's literally the same game. If it let me dump GH: WT songs and GH:GH replaces it as the disk I need to keep, RB1-RB2 style. Buuut Activision is going the route of having to keep new disk after new disk around. I estimate that around the end of the year we'll have four versions of what should have been DLC for a single game.

And yes, DLC would be more expensive in the end but it would be the itunes approach, where you're not forced to listen to all the songs you hate, and Activision is still working on the CD model in this day and age. I really just want to play some Queen, and not any more Heart. Most especially since I've already got GH3, but not GH2 for 360.

That screenshot looks less like GH:WT and more like Rock Band. They have the transparent note highway and the lyric bar looks similar. So I guess if you can't bet them, imitate them.

mm, also notice the new scorebar, displaying how many stars they've earned so far, and the individual 'health' indicators on the left of each highway (which is in some ways worse than the WT interface, which provided a common display for all players to reference to assess bandmates health, and they're still choosing to emphasise the coloured lights at the expense of the actual dial)
Still, it's good to see they are slowly learning some basic interface-design tips from their competitor.
Still too much alpha on the lyrics background though, just waiting to be washed out by bright lights, star power "bulbs" are still a terrible excuse for a "meter", and the combo bar is still hard to read.

I'm admittedly a bit of a GH whore, but I'll happily buy this if the song list is good.

New recordings of some of the old and simply dire covers from GH1 & 2 will be great and full band versions of some of the classics: count my thumbs well and truly up :-)

"Not that we expected a severe visual overhaul out of a game that isn't even providing a musical overhaul."

I'd say master tracks and full band capability of tracks that were mostly crappy covers is a pretty decent overhaul.. It'll be like playing them again for the first time.
