Metal Gear Online makes a SCENE (expansion) March 17

Konami has revealed -- via the PlayStation Blog -- that Metal Gear Online's latest expansion, "SCENE," will be available in North America beginning March 17. (Hold on, we'll type louder so you can hear us over the cricket sounds.) Alright. So, the pack will be available via PSN and Konami's own online shop for $9.99; with the previous "MEME" expansion for $14.99; or as part of the full add-on pack -- "MEME," "GENE" and "SCENE" -- for $17.99.
The expansion, which adds MGS4 characters to the mix along with new maps and a "Solo Capture" mode, can be pre-ordered via Konami's e-store, which is offering an exclusive in-game cardboard box headgear (sure not to get you noticed) for those who make the early comittment. Of course, you get a whole bunch'a wacky stuff just for buying the pack. Clown paint, anyone? Anyone? Crickets?

Clown camouflage. For when Snake needs to infiltrate a child's birthday party.

umm If I want to dress like Nathan Hale I'll play R2. although I suppose that if Resistance clothing made it into MGO then most likely Metal Gear outfits might make it to R2. I guess we will see.
one thing is for certain, those damn Konami IDs REALLY turn me off from using MGO
Falcon07Elensar @ Mar 5th 2009 4:21PM
the resistance uniform is the one the guy is wearing the campaign during act 3 when you follow him..not from the game resistance
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Mar 5th 2009 4:25PM
oh THAT resistance. gotcha. hell either way curse them for those fuckin Konami IDs
Game_playa @ Mar 5th 2009 7:58PM
You just make it once and set it so it saves the user name and pass. It's not that Fucking hard
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Mar 6th 2009 7:57AM
sure it saves it sometimes. but they make you go thru HELL to buy shit, when its FAR much easier for me to use my PS Wallet which has around $100 in it just chilling for things to buy.
Just @ Mar 5th 2009 4:03PM
As stated over and over in the official blog : No Konami ID, path-in throphies!
I re-played that game last week and I still love it!
AJ_3 @ Mar 5th 2009 4:09PM
If they are still infact supporting this title, then where are the trophies; surely will ensure another sales spike??
adam @ Mar 5th 2009 4:08PM
Crickets? MGO has so many people playing and buying these ex. packs its crazy.
The Konami ID is no problem whatsoever if you simply clack on remember my password, I've only inputted in mine once
playcrackthesky @ Mar 5th 2009 5:45PM
Yeah this new joystiq crap is an absolute joke.
Just because they don't still play the game, does not mean the rest of us don't.
Who the fuck is randy nelson anyway? that name sounds scene and made up.
Skyflur @ Mar 5th 2009 11:14PM
So many people? I don't think I've seen anyone in my friend list play MGS4 past the month(been generous here) since it's release. Sure there's people playing it but most people stopped playing after their first play-threw.
So I challenge your so many people to my most. I win, crickets, damn those crickets.
Vegnagun bwf @ Mar 9th 2009 12:37PM
Randy Nelson has been writing at Joystiq for a while. Not a very classy comment either, guy.
followthategg @ Mar 5th 2009 4:12PM
It cheak of it. I bet these are maps that were in the original MGO too. Absolutly pathetic. WHY use some crappy unstable shop instead of the ps store? WHY Only include about 6 crappy levels? Bring back the original MGO!
Kgg @ Mar 5th 2009 4:56PM
If you read the original article, you can now at least use your PSN walet to pay for the expansion... whether this means that you can buy from the PS store or not remains to be seen
kentuckyfried @ Mar 5th 2009 7:31PM
That's really unclear from this entry...it would be wonderful to buy it through the PSN store but I don't think that's the case.
Besides, one cannot procure the coveted cardboard box hat without pre-ordering directly from the MGO store. I don't know how that's supposed to fly either since I imagine that everybody and their mother's going to try and sign up for that pre-order the moment it goes live.
Terry Newhook @ Mar 5th 2009 4:23PM
TROPHIES Konami TROPHIES
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 5th 2009 4:25PM
What he said!!!!
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Mar 5th 2009 4:31PM
Trophies would be a great addition to the game and would probably generate a small sales surge.
arrness @ Mar 5th 2009 6:12PM
itd definitely make my wallet surge
myni9ameece @ Mar 6th 2009 11:39AM
word up trophies man trophies
DeathroW @ Mar 5th 2009 4:18PM
I've only ever had to enter my konami ID and Game ID into MGO once when i got the game, i did the smart thing and clicked remember my password?
So it isn't a problem for me. And please, stop with the "MGO is dead jokes". MGO has possibly the most solid (bad wording, blah blah) community on the PS3, sure - it isn't the biggest, but it is very solid. Pun NOT intended.
kentuckyfried @ Mar 5th 2009 7:32PM
even more so on the Japanese side of things...always 4000 ppl strong populating the servers.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 5th 2009 4:24PM
Boring online MP is boring.
Get on Killzone 2's MP instead. No seriously go now, do it! :)
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Mar 5th 2009 4:29PM
I'm just curious why you feel the MP is boring. Sure, it's more paced than most of your run of the mill shooters (COD franchise, Bad Company etc ..) but I think it's actually pretty fun to play online. It would completely go against the namesake of the game to make it completely different than MGS 4 played. The purpose of it is meant to be tactical and to work as a team so I can understand how it doesn't appeal to most online gamers. If your not playing with a clan or group of regulars it could be frustrating but it's not as if everyone sits around in a cardboard box the entire time.
Duke @ Mar 5th 2009 4:39PM
It's also just not as fun as Killzone or R2 multiplayer. He doesn't like it and I too didn't care for it. MGS was an amazing game and my GoY, but its MP was just uninspired.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 5th 2009 4:51PM
They could do A LOT of things to not make it boring and still be tactical. It's boring, bottom line. IMO, of course. :)
kentuckyfried @ Mar 5th 2009 7:37PM
One major tweak I'd like to see, just for the sake of MGO working as MP game, is the assignment of weapon and regular items to the D-pad. It's a huge difficulty trying to scroll to different items in the middle of a firefight (say, I want to simply STAB somebody with my knife b/c he's so close).
As it is now, I still hesitate once I throw somebody to the ground...do I have to click once to get to back to my assault rifle or twice? It's twice but I'm saying, most people do not have the patience to absorb subtle details like that.
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Mar 5th 2009 8:32PM
I was just curious why he felt it was boring. I don't have an issue with you guys not liking but just curious why it's being called "boring". I actually think the game plays fine and is rather underrated and under appreciated as opposed to uninspired. I actually play it pretty often and at least once a week. It's just a different type of online game which I like. As I said it's nice to have something that's not a carbon copy of every other FPS (i.e. COD, BBC, RSV etc ...). I just want to know what specifically makes it boring. Like I said it is paced (not run and gun) and requires team work, strategy and tactics. Maybe that's what Fenix considers boring and that's OK as well. Maybe it was something else. It's the entire reason I asked. Duke.
deadpool @ Mar 5th 2009 10:50PM
MGO caters to the BF2 type of gamer rather than the COD type. If you like to run constantly whilst shooting things it won't suit you.
Sometimes I feel like the average joystiq reader is brainwashed by this blog.
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Mar 5th 2009 4:25PM
As echoed by some other commenters I take exception to the implication that no one cares about playing MGO or these expansion packs. I have had issues trying to purchase the packs off the Konami portal so making them available on the psn would be optimal but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of a fantastic game.
j.howlett @ Mar 5th 2009 4:27PM
i'd have gone back to playing by now if my favorite part, the manapult, wasn't in lbp
Greg @ Mar 5th 2009 4:30PM
MGO is great. I stopped playing for a while, to finish GTA4, Tomb Raider Underworld and Dead Space - but everytime I put it back in my ps3 to play online, I have so much fun.
When I start to play, then I realize how the grapgics are great, and the controls are great.
I bought the MEME pack, but not enough ppl play on the maps in my opinion. I guess, they should give those expansions for free and so much more ppl would play.
In another subject, I am one of those who loved the controls of Metal gear and Dead Space, and after trying the demo of RE4 I was sad. But I tried many times, and gave it a chance, and I have to say that I will start to forget them, and almost like them - so finally I will buy it =) (just to have something to play before uncharted 2...).
Have fun everyone!
David @ Mar 5th 2009 4:38PM
Hey now! Just cause you aren't playing this anymore, Mr. Nelson, doesn't mean the rest of us aren't...
Marty @ Mar 5th 2009 5:22PM
At this point, I'm surprised they haven't added a playable sackboy character to the MGS line-up yet.

Sorry, I am on the side of the get rid of the silly multiple logins and add trophies argument. I am just as lazy as the developers are, and as the consumer who is dishing out the money, its my way or its the highway.....
I'm just saying....
Marty @ Mar 5th 2009 6:25PM
"My way or the highway" only works when you haven't bought the game yet.
Saintgutfree @ Mar 5th 2009 6:27PM
To those complaining about this article's stabs at the playerbase (or lack thereof) of MGO, I sympathize.
I'm not sure why, but it seems the past two months have turned the majority of the Joystiq staff into pessimistic ladies. Almost every single article has some kind of snide, holier-than-thou air to it, especially articles that have anything to do with the PS3. I could understand the PS3 bias two years ago, but they need to give it a rest.
It's not just PS3 though, it's everything. The GH Classics pack gets all sorts of smarmy and sarcastic remarks from the editors, but in my eyes it's a great idea. The ability to play a TON of old songs on drums? As my family's "drummer", I'm excited about this.
The Watchmen: TEiN.. Yeah, it's repetitive. So? If you're playing it, your concern is less on the gameplay and more on the storytelling. I understand they're a video game site and should approach games as such, but they need to take in account at who the demographic is. $20 is steep for a digitally distributed game, yes, but considering the crap-tastic Iron Man game last year ran for $60 new and didn't look nearly as good or have nearly the story telling aspects as a $20 game, it's not so bad. If they release 3 $20 episodes of the TEiN, each at 3-4 hours in length, you have a 12 hour $60 movie game. If you find it repetitive, then you're not the target demographic of the game.
I could go on about how overly snide Joystiq has gotten since around mid-January, but I'm sure I'm not alone in noticing this.
Marty @ Mar 5th 2009 7:21PM
I don't think it's specific to PS3 - the same attitude persists in just about all articles. I guess since it's a new blog, they feel like they have to inject opinion into everything (and of course, the controversy produces more hits, which produces ad revenue), but I agree with you - sometimes I wish they'd just report the damn news and stop acting like industry know-it-alls.
kentuckyfried @ Mar 5th 2009 7:39PM
I momentarily didn't understand the crickets reference...it really doesn't apply to MGO. It's a niche game, it's always been that way.
ryan @ Mar 5th 2009 6:38PM
we dont make cricket sounds bill.....practice!
CLOUD9 @ Mar 5th 2009 7:40PM
I don't know why people talk so much crap about MGO. If you don't like the game, oh well. MGO is trying something different. That game is not for everyone. As for Killzone 2, multiplayer is cool but it feels familiar. I do like the way the gameplay modes change during the match though.
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Mar 5th 2009 8:37PM
Exactly. I thought it was very ambitious and had a lot of thought put into it. It's a different type of online game and people seem to only want to play what is similar and like everything else they own. Just check out all the complaining about the Killzone controls and weighty feel. It's as if most gamers want to play the same exact thing with different character models.
Raccoon City Survivor @ Mar 5th 2009 9:16PM
WOW JUST BRING IT LOL I REALLY CAINT WAIT 4 THE NEW MAPS WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LiquidusSnake @ Mar 6th 2009 11:03AM
Most likely, the ppl that said they disliked MGO, were the ppl that completely suked ass and got owned. especially by me. Those ppl are probably the 1's that got my name carved in their ass with my stun knife. It takes a lot of skill to be good at MGO unlike all your average FPS games that are all repeatedly alike. COD, Killzone, Resistance. It takes no skill in those game just run and shoot and hope you kill some one. Dont get me wrong all of them are fun and very good games. Im playn through COD 4 now. By the way the lobbies are still full majority of the time in MGO and Survival lobbies are busy as well. Konami just needs to add trophies, fix glitches and lag problems and make there products available in the PS Store
numb3rS1X @ Mar 6th 2009 8:56AM
I SO want to love this game online. But is it just me that sucks, or is the standard of play much higher than say, Battlefield: Bad Company? I that game, I get 200+ points pretty much every round but in MGO I just get pwned! People seem to be able to get headshots everytime. However, I will buy these expansions because I do like the game a lot.
That red beret will be mine, oh yes!
Steffan Griffiths @ Mar 6th 2009 2:12PM
Randy Nelson is some tard who lost his job at PSM, and now works here. Surprisingly enough, he had the cheek to suck up to Ryan Payton about the game when he was on his podcast, back before MGS4 was released. What a sad, fat, self-serving game fucking journalist. Why do we take him seriously? He's a jounrnalist, and that 'profession' isn't exactly smiled upon. Unless you're covering relevant and interesting world news, yeah, we're really gonna give a flying shit about your opinions. A game fucking journalist? Go fuck yourself.
