Looks like an Alice rip-off with Little Red Riding Hood, except all you do is try to follow the path without getting lost? Maybe she's a witch?

BURN HER!

Yeah, for me too the choice often comes down to video games or BlackBerry App World apps... I guess that really is the great debate for all of us, isn't it?

@AoE The joke was that BB AW apps are overpriced at the cheapest non-free level.

That's just Manny being Manny. Er wait, nevermind. The only it'd really driven me nuts was after the big Piston/Pacer fight broke out, seems like ESPN was on that for ages.

i can't WAIT for The Path! I'm not a Red Riding Hood fan, but I much prefer the twisted version of childrens tales than the happy endings. And this game, Like a sandbox game where the goal is stepping out of the box, but the game spawns right next to the edge, and you've got a whole desert to consider.

Happy ending? The original tale didn't have a happy ending. I suppose in "The Path" we can choose between the 'twisted' version where the girl survives, or the violent ending of the original telling.

Did anyone play the Graveyard? I played the demo and as far as I could tell, the game goes like this...

You sit on a bench.

That's real artsy, but I need to know more before I start droppin' Hamiltons. Word?

See, this is what happens when you DON'T put American McGee's name on the box. Instead of going "Who's American McGee." You go, "huh, game? what game? never heard of it."

The Path seems like a lot of pompous, faux-intellectual garbage that serves mainly to please the author in how amazingly great they are.

Perhaps it's just an interesting project that's trying to find a niche. But it seems like they aren't doing anything special with the video game medium, here. Flower is artsy AND is a product that is well-crafted to the medium.

I'll take back everything if I pick it up and say "Oh, my interaction with this really changes everything", but so far I'm not convinced.

I don't think most people know just how indie this game is. Its like the main team behind it is all of 2 people-indie, with some help along the way of course. It's seems worth trying for anyone with a PC who likes artsy games (its also very different from The Graveyard for anyone scarred by that experience), and i recommend people go their site http://tale-of-tales.com/ThePath and read the articles and walkthroughs by other sites they've posted there, if you want a better idea of what the game is about.

Also American Mcgee made one game that people liked, the other game with his name on it... not so much. So slapping his name on anything fairy tale related is kinda... silly. Anyway I still hope the new Alice game turns out good, and I'm really looking forward to The Path.

The thing is, it doesn't matter how "indie" it is. It matters if it's any good, and the problem is that it's not. Like "Facade", it's just a bunch of self-important goofs making non-games and pretending that it's high art.

Using indie status to try to override lack of content is pretty common - people do it all the time with indie music as well (for example, note that any mind-dribble that Madlib releases generally gets rave reviews). But these things need to be judged honestly. And honestly, all I see in this pompous company's future is bankruptcy and burger-flipping.

I wasn't saying being indie was an excuse for lack of content within the game, but more the lack of content they've been able to show (trailers, etc.). But even then being an indie team with 6-8 people at most is not easy. Have you ever tried to make a game with a small team of people, a complete game? I have and its not easy. It took tale of tales 2 years to complete The Path and its a 6 hour game, and from what I understand they had no Publisher's help, just a Gov't grant. One thing I've learned from my experience, both with an indie team and with a game dev/publishing company, is depending on the resources available to you, money, tools, people, etc. lots of your grand plans dwindle away very fast. You have to live with what you have do the best you can. Indie developers sometimes have the benefit of more time, more creative expression, but the money is not there like it is for big companies. Meaning they can't afford all the people, tools, and other assets that go into bigger budget games. So I'd say, depending on the scale and just how "indie" you are does factor in to the content you produce.

I can see where many people come from thinking they're just some pompous artist types trying to change the whole medium to fit their own ideals. There have been times I got that same impression. But if you had the means wouldn't you try to make your own version of an ideal game too? I can't really blame them for trying, or really criticize their game when I haven't played it. But I'm willing to give it a try for $10... They themselves said, as well as several other game site reveiws/walkthroughs, that it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. There are several different genres of video games, I see no harm in adding another, even it is a very small niche compared to most.
