It would would be a huge cost investment and would have to employ a hell of a lot more people. Would have to code the game/expansions/every patch for 3 different coding architectures. Those patches would also be delayed a week or two because of Microsofts/Sonys certification process.

of course if you'd notice square-enix has already made a multi platform mmo, final fantasy 12, and it is on the PS2, 360, and PC. personally i don't see why so many people say it's so hard to do and developers will never do it since it's already been done i just wish the game companies would stop skirting the issue on it them selves and start making multi platform multiplayer games because i want to play my friends on street fighter 4 online (i have the ps3 version and they have 360's) btw sorry if i came of as angry or anything (maybe a little flustered but not angry)

"a really amazing platform to work on" isn't his full quote.

"The PlayStation 3 is a really amazing platform to work on, so is 360. Wii is as well. All of them are really advanced relative to the systems of 10-20 years ago. That’s why I think it’s exciting to be developing on any system right now in the videogame space" would place it in more of the appropriate, intended context.

It was a console neutral statement.

I'm sick of this shit, Nintendo and Sony seem to get the same run around.. "Amazing, fantastic console, we will look into it, etc." Stop being lazy ass developers taking pockets full of money from Microsoft. If you really love designing games, sit down with these two consoles, get your brains going and work. The end result will be well worth, pfff

And let me guess, Mass Effect was not mentioned anywhere. For gods sake how could that have been over looked?? Will it come to the PS3 or not? I don't even care really I am just tired of the stupid mind games during their interviews. People are going to buy it eventually either way so whats the point in the "possibly in the future" bs??

Whatever MS and EA came to agreements with I'm betting it has to do with keeping the ME trilogy on MS operated machines as the original contract stated. Because acquiring publishing rights would automatically void any exclusivity rights unless there were discussions between the two parties as that link seems to hint at.

Get your facts straight. How about not buying into Sony's hype and actually looking at the evidence?

The 360's GPU is better, fact.
Multiple devs have said that they are even.

It baffles me to this day that people still think the PS3 is much more powerful, where's the evidence? Ah, yeah, there is none.

Because it's not a matter of opinion? The PS3 isn't filled with mystical fairy dust. We know exactly what's inside it and the Xbox, and none of it supports these claims of vast technological power relative to the 360. That's all Sony hype people have bought into, like the "Ten Year Plan" which is consistently misconstrued. In significant ways the PS3 is a worse system than the 360 (video card and memory setup), contains dubious functionality (BluRay discs full of duplicated or uncompressed data), and the only truly differentiating component, the Cell CPU, has been an extremely mixed bag so far.

Collymilad,

It takes more work to tap into said power of the PS3 than it does when using an off the shelf PC like the 360. So, your going to get better results in a shorter period of time on the 360 (more like developing in the PC environment) but in the longrun the PS3 can presumably achieve better overall results (like C&C for example which is superior on the PS3 because of extra development time). It's also true that since a HDD is standard in every PS3 that developers can use that as a tool where as they can't on the 360 because of the Arcade SKU. Now, both console can and do achieve fantastic results (graphics and physics) with optimization and the only way to judge a consoles power is by comparing exclusives which is in itself extremely subjective. It's really an irrelevant conversation thats only fodder for butt hurt fanboys who hate another box with a different corporate logo on the front. I had a launch 360 and didn't like it because I had 6 different console failures in under 3 years. For that reason alone I prefer the PS3 (never even a hiccup) over the 360.

If it's all about raw horsepower and maxed out specs both consoles fall short to a high end PC gaming rig anyway. But, the PS3 & Sony offer some other advantages not available on the 360 that could be beneficial in the development process. For example, Blu-Ray gives the developer more storage space to work with and it's a medium that has yet to be affected by piracy and keeps devs from paying multi disc royalty fees (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon etc etc) but it brings it's own set of drawbacks as well. Another example would be that the PSN is an open architecture that allows developers the ability to open up the community for user created content (think UT 3's mods) where as MS simply won't allow it at all. The PSN also does not put developer constraints on file size for DLC or downloadable titles where as MS has a maximum file limt. The PS3 also allows free online multiplayer to all users thus assuring everyone purchasing a game with an online multiplayer component has the ability to play which in turn leads to potential DLC sales etc etc. Finally, another small advantage is that the PS3 does support a keyboard a mouse periphrial making PC only games accessible to console gamers. Have you heard of some of the real word applications of cell clusters that use multiple PS3's? Circumventing any security measure by brute force, realistic space simulations and Stanfords research project Folding@Home which simulates the folding of proteins in hopes of potentially curing cancer.

Go play Killzone 2 and show me any other console game that is as big of a technical achievement. I will take Uncharted, Metal Gear 4 and Killzone 2 over any 3 X-Box 360 games and will surely come out on top. The greatest technical achievement on the 360 thus far has been Gears Of War 2 which is a fantastic game. Even Gears 2 didn't have the same complex simulations that Killzone 2 does with wind, lighting, sand and other real world/dynamic objects.

It's a stupid comment you made and I hope you go away and never come back. We don't need sensitive douchebags who can't handle others opinions and feel the need to attack everything others say.

It's *his* fucking opinion. He never said it was a matter of fact. You Xombies are completely out of control and out of touch with reality. It's plastic and silicon not your mother, wife or child. You may disagree with his opinion but it's still most certainly his opinion. You need to lay off the fairy dust (drugs) and stop going into Rage mode when someone has a different take than yourself. Nothing you said is quantifyable because we have entire industry who can't agree with one perspective over the other. There isn't a consensus you Ape.

This is why ps3fanboy should've never combined the multiple platforms in one blog. Again, ps3 users, don't even bother..We know the specs and the potential of the ps3. This is just a little angered boy who is not happy with his console and finds himself wanting to diss the one he should've saved a little more for just to make up for it.

I've played oblivion on 360 and ps3...The 360 one is a joke compared to the ps3 one.
It laggs every 10 seconds through the field. It made me lol.

That was the first time I ever saw the 2 head to head. :D

I have and love my 360, but PS3 games are starting to noticeably surpass what the 360 is capable of. And by surpass, I am specifically talking about better graphics and smoother animation.

That has to be one of the most stupid connections between anything I have ever seen.

How exactly is it like that at all? The persons point was that he didn't single out PS3 as this amazing platform on it's own, he mearly lumped it in with others which he also said were amazing. Big difference.

Also, let's face it - the only reason BioWare are spouting forth this crap is because they have been bought by EA, multi-platform pimps of the gaming industry.

Looks to me like EA is finally digging their corporate fingers under the skin of Bioware. The comment is definatly neutral and hints at the EA philosophy of multiplatform releases with degraded quality. I do not believe the hype of EA being about quality games. At this point they have recently picked up many studios that have quality games in the works and inturn are using those as soapbox to preach quality. when in fact after those are out the doors, the diluge of tihs sequels will hit us like a zombie hoard, because the install base for all platforms across the board will be massive. and to quote a cheese movie.."if you build it, they will come"
So Bioware is part of EA and is greasing up the "odlid" for the respective gamers ssa.
The day of Bioware sticking to a couple of games and making the great will die with original Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Think of it this way, a small studio churning out sequels or new IPs just does not happen. Said studio will have to outsource or expand within the company, the outsourcing and expanding to include different colleagues in the company will not have the passion that the core group do......hence .........I am sure you can end it

Let's calm down for a second. On one hand you say it's a plastic and silicone and the next your jumping down peoples throats, which one is it?

Anyway...I think the point is that the difference is negligible if that. I have all 3 console like some of you do, just adding my PS3 to the collection this past Valentines from my wife in preparation for KZ2 and IMO Gears 2 looks better. It doesn't blow it out of the water but overall it looks better. To be honest with you, I was more impressed with MGS4, Uncharted, LBP and Heavenly Sword from a visual standpoint than I was with KZ2. Part of that may stem from the fact that KZ2 is very monochromatic you don't really get a sense of what it can pull off other than a bunch of tech effects.

I'm not digging on it because of that. To the contrary, it fits the games atmosphere. But I think a large amount of PS3 only players/supporters dissed on Gears 1 being monochromatic despite it then and now being one of the best looking games this generation. Gears 2 had allot to prove and EPIC proved that U3 was a versatile engine. I would like to see what KZ3 looks like seeing how it ends leaves it open to explore new worlds/environments. The best part visually of KZ2 are the small details i.e., particle effects, wind stuff like that. I really liked the particle affects especially during MP when your all just blowing stuff up, it looks awesome and without skipping a beat...that's what impressed me, handling such the sure amount of things happening (online/off) without a hitch, not the graphics more the effects.

EPIC says that Gears 3 will look even better so we'll have to wait and see. I also wouldn't discount ODST as I think they may have some tricks up there sleeves over at Bungie. Outside of character faces in Halo3, (humans that is) that game is gorgeous and remains a stand out for me still. You can hate all you want but for it's time H3 was a beautiful game and still is.

Regardless of your format of choice we all have awesome games to play. As too the point of graphics, I'd say it's a wash, PS3 it seems is starting to hit it's stride in that department and the 360 for all intents and purposes has been perfected from a development standpoint so we'll see. Does wait and see potential have enough to totally destroy easy to use experience?

The real question is does Sony have what it takes to close the gap between it and the 360. You can have all the tech in the world but if it takes you $60 million and 4-5 years of development to release a game that while awesome looking is equal too and or more/less as gorgeous to it's competitors offerings then I don't know. I love my PS3 for sure, but if I had only enough for it and KZ2, I wouldn't be very convinced of my purchase. Thankfully I have a bunch of games to balance it out and with so many great games on all 3 consoles (yes Wii haters it does have some games coming that look great) I can't wait to see what happens.

E3 can't get here soon enough....

It's subjective in nature but everything in Killzone 2 from the destructible environments, particle effects for explosions, wind, hundreds upon hundreds of lighting sources in each stage, dynamic shadows, actual intelligent enemy AI, character models, gun models and environments are nothing less than incredible. Halo 3 looked good for when it came out but now it looks extremely dated. The leap from Gears 1 to Gears 2 really didn't seem that significant to me and others agree though they are both good games with #2 having a playable campaign. Great games are great games but compare the infamous KZ2 target render to the actual game and you will see it actually exceeds it in most instances. It is without a doubt the best looking console game ever made (up to this point) and even rivals PC games like Crysis.

There is no way to quantify that because it is subjective and it's up to the gamer to decide for himself what looks best. You got a PS3 at the best time because without a doubt it has the best exclusives this year on paper. From the looks of it the games won't stop coming in 2009 or in Q1 of 2010 (FF13 & GOW 3) for the PS3. Say what you want but for a game to have so much expectation as KZ2 had and to exceed it in every circumstance is an achievement that shouldn't be minimized by anyone. As I said the only way to compare a console is by it's exclusives but because that is so subjective there is no quantifiable way to say which version is technically better. Not to be mean but if you were more impressed with LBP, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted (all beautiful games) over Killzone 2 then you need to get your eyes checked. Heavenly Sword had the bet facial animations I have ever seen in my life but had some frame rate issues when to many enemys were on screen, Uncharted had a fantastic visual style and was the best looking console game (IMO) before MGS 4 & KZ2 dropped and LBP is beautiful but it's hard to compare a 2-D game to a fully 3-D game. Both KZ2 & MGS 4 have nearly perfect framarates and damn near CG quality graphics while running in game. Truthfully the only 360 games that really stand up are Ninja Gaiden 2 & Gears Of War 1 & 2.

@Bj,

KZ isn't competing with Halo3 seeing as how Halo is 2+ years old. With that being said, to say that that actual game (KZ) exceeds the trailer begs that you, no disrespect, have your eyes checked. It did get VERY close...but no cigar.

As far as it looking better than Gears 2, as you said it is subjective. Imo as good as KZ looks it's the little bells and whistles that make it shine, things that most people will overlook. Gears 2 did more with it's engine offering varying backgrounds showing what the engine can do. KZ2 largely followed the monochromatic view of the first and while that isn't a bad thing, I expected allot more for a game that took 4+ years to make and over $60 million. Again let me be clear, I LOVE KZ2, it is an amazing game that all gamers should play, especially shooter fans and is an artistic/technical achievement to be sure...but so are ALLOT of other games and IMO it doesn't deserve the crown of best looking ever but surely amongst them.

MS hasn't shown there hand yet for what they have coming this year so let's wait until E3 before we start with the "Year of the PS3" stuff...again. It seems that every year is the year of the PS3 and it never is. I agree in some cases the PS3 has gotten a bad rap, but in allot of ways the criticism is justified. It has great games out, I'm the owner of most if not all of the "must haves". However, for all the talk of the power and HD starts when we say so and all that nonsense, they still haven't shown why they are as awesome as they say they are, we should also give MS credit they have allot of amazing games to play and when it comes down to it, that's what it's about the fun of gaming something that MS has in spades and Sony (as of now) has in spurts. MS has proven to be more of a contender than Sony thought and it proves you can have all the tech and potential in the world but if your not putting it in the hands of the people who matter than what good does it do you?

One thing is for sure, we as gamers are in for an amazing year of gaming and E3 is (mark my words) going to go down in gaming history as one of the best most important ones ever.
