EA sees success in Dead Space and Mirror's Edge ... after a 'lifetime performance'

Söderlund went on to echo Glen Schofield's remarks regarding the not-too-brilliant plan of releasing both titles during the extremely competitive holiday season, admitting that EA could have "done a better job" scheduling its release calendar. Still, EA seems determined to forge ahead with both franchises in tow. We have a hunch gamers will support that decision -- so long as Dead Space doesn't turn into this and Mirror's Edge into that.

CAKE! Love it!
It saddens me those games didn't do better. Dead Space was a horror game that actually didn't bore me for once. And Mirror's Edge was awesome platforming goodness -- like Metroid Prime but instead of gadgets to help get you around, you had parkour. I guess platformers just aren't popular anymore.
Bigfoot @ Mar 6th 2009 1:59PM
Ironically, I heard that song(live version) on the radio today on my way home from work.
timesplitters2 @ Mar 6th 2009 2:09PM
EA/Harmonix, put this song in Rock Band ASAP
Omega2k3 @ Mar 6th 2009 6:56PM
Holy crap I've wanted to play it since GH 1. We need a CAKE song pack NOW.
ToRo @ Mar 6th 2009 1:42PM
Correction, as long as dead space doesn't turn into this (http://tinyurl.com/dbzwl3).
Ghen @ Mar 6th 2009 1:47PM
agreed. resident evil used to be scary.
ToRo @ Mar 6th 2009 1:50PM
If your talking about the controls, then yeah. They still are pretty scary.
BxGT @ Mar 6th 2009 2:01PM
After watching that video this is what happened

Seriously stop devoting all your time to hating one game.
ToRo @ Mar 6th 2009 2:07PM
I don't hate the RE series, I just don't seem to get them. A series I do hate is Guitar Hero (starting from the 3rd one) but that's for another time. I appreciate what RE 4 did because without it, there wouldn't a Dead Space. But to have controls like that in modern gaming is a crime. Especially if the game that your making isn't even considered "horror" anymore.
ToRo @ Mar 6th 2009 2:07PM
there wouldn't be a Dead Space*
BxGT @ Mar 6th 2009 2:10PM
So just ignore it.
ToRo @ Mar 6th 2009 2:16PM
When there are people out there who are saying RE 5 will be a better game? I call Blasphemy!
ShadowOp @ Mar 6th 2009 2:39PM
zing!

MowDownJoe @ Mar 6th 2009 1:44PM
Reluctantly crouched at the starting line...
Engines pumping and thumping in time...
The green light flashes. The flags go up.
Churning and yearning, they burn for the cup.
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank.
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
Their prowess is potent, and secretly stern.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
The fans get up, and they get out of town.
The arena is empty, except for one man
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
The sun has come down and the moon has come up
And long ago somebody left with the cup
But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns...
kentuckyfried @ Mar 6th 2009 2:26PM
CAKE songs would be fun in Rock Band, I'm not sure if John McCrea approves though...
MowDownJoe @ Mar 6th 2009 2:47PM
John McCrea wants Cake in Rock Band... just as long as "The Distance" isn't apart of it.
That's fine by me. Give me Comfort Eagle any day.
jello44 @ Mar 6th 2009 7:58PM
Strange how he doesn't want "The Distance" on there, that would be an instant download for me. Comfort Eagle works just as well.
Roto13 @ Mar 6th 2009 1:52PM
Well my hopes are high for a Mirror's Edge 2, then. Chances are they'll fix the few nagging problems (less combat and more outdoor sequences) that keep it from being completely and totally awesome instead of just great. :P
BxGT @ Mar 6th 2009 2:13PM
Can you say extreme tree climbing action, now that is a sequel we can all look forward to.
Chris Are @ Mar 6th 2009 1:57PM
What was up w/ that "as long as Dead Space doesn't turn into this" thing? I don't get the joke.
Mike @ Mar 6th 2009 2:00PM
Yeah, neither do I.
Dirty @ Mar 6th 2009 2:01PM
If you have to ask, you'll never know.
Chris Are @ Mar 6th 2009 2:02PM
Don't try to sound all philosophical Dirty- you don't know either.
BxGT @ Mar 6th 2009 2:02PM
He meant as long as dead space doesn't become game of the year like re 4 did
Chris Are @ Mar 6th 2009 2:07PM
Okay sorry but I still don't get it... how did you get that from "Sheba Inu Puppy Cam"?
BxGT @ Mar 6th 2009 2:12PM
Dude when you think puppies you get tacos, tacos always equal game of the year and in re 4 there were spanish people.
Chris Are @ Mar 6th 2009 2:20PM
Wow, I am an idiot. Thanks buddy.
Dirty @ Mar 6th 2009 2:28PM
I wouldnt use the word "philosophical" to describe a phrase I used to tell my friends who wanted to know what a Cleveland steamer was.
Also I know what he talking about. You see puppies are adorable and you would never want to shoot their limbs off with various high tech mechanical tools (unless your bat shit crazy). They are also very not scary. Mr Burg would like the game to avoid becoming not scary (or puppiefied). Now do you want me to explain what a One eyed Winky Fish is?
BxGT @ Mar 6th 2009 5:11PM
Well my young friend it's as simple as divide by penguin squared.
Mike @ Mar 6th 2009 1:59PM
I'd consider Dead Space a success in my book. I love that game.
Brian Richter @ Mar 6th 2009 2:08PM
One day they will learn and spread releases out over the year. Kids are dying for new games in the summer. I don't know why they don't release more games then.
acefondu @ Mar 6th 2009 2:11PM
I bought both games and enjoyed them both a lot! Keep up the good work EA.
Druff @ Mar 6th 2009 2:19PM
I found Dead Space to be one of the most (if not *the* most) polished and valuable AAA title of 2008. Its only real competition was MGS4. One of the best survival horror games I've played since REmake and Silent Hill 2. Often got the urge to throttle anyone stupid enough to say "Durrr, it's not survival horror at all, really". Mirrors Edge was great too, but a little lite on depth. In any case, I was really doubtful that EA was serious about turing things around and trying to get away from the shitty shovelware in favor of true quality. These two games made a believer out of me. Keep it up, you big faceless corporate conglomerate scumbags!
CosterMonger @ Mar 6th 2009 3:17PM
I think EA was OK to release two completely different games during the same time
both games had good reviews, Dead Space being the better of the two, though I really like the kinetic feel of Mirror's Edge (though the title could have been better)
if they were releasing two FPS at the same time I would think they're nuts
CH3BURASHKA @ Mar 6th 2009 5:58PM
Three Hurrah's for Mirror's Edge 7.
GoldN @ Mar 6th 2009 6:13PM
"I will find my way, I can go the distance, I don't care how far, somehow I'll be strong..."
t_m @ Mar 6th 2009 8:37PM
I hope so. Its nice to see a publisher taking the long view for once.
I want a Mirror's Edge Wii, and a Dead Space Wii that isn't a lightgun game.
I wish Epic would support the Wii so devs could easily port games across... sure it wouldn't be as pretty, but it'd do the job.
