Why are we still even talking about a cell phone game.

Because it's on the almighty iPhone! The same reason every game site picked up Oregon Trail coming to the iPhone, even thought the same basic version of this "remake" has been on every other phone for months.

@BxGT & Daniel - I completely agree. The media (including sites like Joystiq) fawns and swoons over all things iPhone, big or small. It's ridiculous.

Every other phone that's come out over the last decade has had an "app store." Every one of them has played games, software, music, etc. And yet for some reason, it's a huge damn deal when the same stuff hits the iPhone.

I just don't get it. Who gave Apple the free pass when it comes to media exposure?

Yeah, unbelievable. Why didn't they cover the watered down yet still adorable Loco Roco game I got for my LG eNV, envy, whatever. If I had to review it, I would give it 3 watermelons out of 4 mangos, which equates to about a B-, or possibly a 69. Sure the music blows, but they're still cute.

Seriously though, is there any other phone that has games as quality or well developed as the iPhone? I may just be ignorant, but it's clearly the flagship of mobile gaming for the moment it seems.

Seriously though, yes I did buy Loco Roco on my phone.

Well, maybe you guys are missing that the phone has a large install base and pretty good graphics and thats why it matters. Yes, other phones have done it and yes other app stores exist - but the size of user base is what you all seem to ignore. If 13 million of this phone are out there, then that should be considered by game makers and news outlets, don't you think?

Sure it should. But there are millions of Blackberries out there as well, and those sure as hell play games. Maybe not with the computing power of the iPhone, but you can't deny that the media's coverage of the iPhone has been disproportionate to the rest of the industry since its inception, before there was a huge install base.

Hell, that's probably WHY it has such a huge install base.

Marty it's because some of the games on the iPhone are actually GOOD. Sure a LOT of the games amount to nothing more than silly flash games (kinda like 99.9% of ALL cellphone games) but some of the games are full blown video games. Games like SimCity and PuzzleQuest are direct ports of PSP and DS games.

Also, yeah it's got a lot of horse power under the hood. Instead of NES quality games, we're getting something a lot closer to what us gamers are used to on the DS/PSP.

The vast Iphone+ Ipod touch markets. Slightly more powerful than a PSP. Large internal storage. Easy to use and popular dev tools. Support by major game developers. Many highly rated games already released.

No fucking wonder they get posted here.

To Duke
yea sure the user base for that cell phone is pretty high but now lets think outside the box and say that they release a video game on a video game platform like uh oh yea the ds which makes the iphone user base look like the the n gage user base.Seriously the ds sells more than the bible.

What does the DS have to do with what you guys are talking about? You just posted that like you put me in my place, but nobody said DS games shouldn't get any media. How does that argument show that the iphone does not deserve any discussion of its games?

I suppose their underlying argument or proposition, Duke, is that the iPhone is every bit a legitimate gaming device/HW as a DS or PSP, and golly why can't you see that, and that's why you're a dummy?

I think I'm over-exaggerating, but I would guess that's the crux of it. :P

Nobody is arguing that the iPhone isn't a viable gaming device - we're arguing that the media coverage of it is completely disproportionate to it's market share relevant to other handheld devices. And that's the truth.

Yeah it's true the iPhone sees the lions share of media coverage, but it's because it's games are of a higher caliber than most cell phone games. On top of that big developers are poring resources into iPhone game development. Most cell phone games don't get reported about because their shit. Plain and simple. No one cares about Block breaker on the Blackberry.

I mean do you want to hear about Need For Speed for the iPhone (which looks like a damn PSP game) of Need For Speed for generic handset X (which looks like a Super Nintendo game)?

Personally, I don't want to hear about any of them. Unlike a DS or PSP, you can't just go to the store and pick up an iPhone, Blackberry, or what have you - you've got to get hooked into a cell phone contract, a data plan, etc. It's just not the same, the install base is monumentally small compared to the "real" gaming devices, and I think it's lame that every little thing is treated like it's ground-breaking material.

Marty wrong as ususal. The iPod touch is just as easy to obtain. These games are not exclusive to the iPhone. I love the touch and enjoy having games on my mp3 for slow work days and trips. Thats why its valid. Not to mention most of our fellow gamers are more inclined to play on a neat gadget like this vs an unwieldy blackberry.

The iphone gets media attention because of its enormous installed base already and it has 3d power that most other phones lack! If you dont understand that you are either a moron with no business sense or jealous you dont have an iphone! any psp game can be made on the iphone and you cant say that about the blackberry or any other cell phone. check out some of the games on the iphone from youtube videos, games such as heroes of spartan, zen bound, sim city, and many others. i dont mean to be hard on the negative people but its true, if you dont understand the media attention you truly are lost
