Rumor: Activision preparing Guitar Hero: Van Halen

You wanna be privy to some exclusive, top secret information? Though it may sound like our usual brand of preposterous, blogger rabble rousing, we have reason to believe that Activision is working on ... another Guitar Hero game. It's true! Sources say that this next Guitar Hero will come out after the next Guitar Hero comes out.

Alright, so we have a few more details beyond that evergreen speculation. Let's switch to third-person! Joystiq has been informed that Activision's next artist-oriented Guitar Hero release will be based around Van Halen. According to Joystiq's source, the game is set to arrive sometime after Guitar Hero: Metallica and will include several songs hailin' from the Californian rock band's catalogue, including "Jump," "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher." You can also expect a smattering of songs from other bands, like Judas Priest's "Pain Killer," Tenacious D's "Master Exploder" and Weezer's "Dope Nose."

Activision was unable to lend the leaked information any more credence, saying, "The RedOctane/Guitar Hero team is currently focused on the upcoming release of Guitar Hero Metallica, as well as the recently announced titles Guitar Hero Greatest Hits and Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, and does not comment on speculation or rumor." We didn't bother asking if Creedence is in it.

Van Halen is a Warner Music artist, so this doesn't really jell with that whole licensing-fee dispute issue, unless they were able to work out a separate deal with Warrner for just this game.

With as much time as I've put into RB2, that might be a fair statement. However, that doesn't stop Guitar Hero from being dead TO ME. Which is said, because that's where I started these games.

This rumor has been around since before GH:A. Along with the Guitar Hero Jimi Hendrix rumor.

Add to that that Hot For Teacher is already in GH:WT in full band form, I don't think we will see it again. Sure, One is on Guitar Hero Metallica, but that is different. It has drums, bass (GH3 had Lead and Rhythm), and vocals. Also, if the solo in One has the purple notes, I will be happy, since I would love to try and tap it.

Speaking of Lead and Rhythm, I wish RB and GHLWT had Lead and Rhythm charts.

I have over 150 DLC songs in Rock Band as well as the RB1 imports. I have invested plenty of money into Rock Band.

I just think Activision gets too much shit for "milking" the series when the game is still very fun to play. I am going to have a fucking blast playing Guitar Hero Metallica.

I agree with you good sir. Dope Nose WAS the first song that Harmonix used to create a build of the franchise we know as "Guitar Hero". I think at the least that the song should go to Rock Band ;) Plus, it already has 5 Weezer songs! There is no use splitting it all up between two games! This is one time where I am against sharing the Weezer love. Damn GH3 for having "My Name is Jonas". =w= love. Peace.

It's true. I actually talked to a friend today who went and tested this game and Guitar Hero Greatest Hits over at Activision. He actually just told me about it today. He said that he tested 2 new GH's, and I immediately guessed Greatest Hits and Metallica, but he said nope, GH and VH.

Not only that, but like any company set on keeping game info secret, Activision has testers sign non-disclosure agreements. Meaning if your "friend" was really a tester, and GH:VH was true, he can now be sued by Activision for breaking the agreement.
