Rumor: Army of Two sequel called 'The 40th Day'

So, here are the highlights of the supposed game info:
- The game takes place in Shanghai, where a network of PMCs are looking to take over, under the rule of a leader with a hidden purpose
- Rios and Salem are back, however they've been reluctantly dragged into the conflict and don't have the full story
- The game will feature moral decisions, a deeper weapons customization system, multiple endings, and even a few followers
- Multiplayer will be outsourced yet again
- On the technical side: The 40th Day adds Beast lighting and Fracture, as well as an improved networking system
- Environmental interaction: some weapons will be capable of tearing through thin walls and obstacles in the game; and new AI scripts will improve your partner's realism (e.g., peeking through windows, taking out enemies silently, etc.)
- EA will be tossing civilians into the mix, which you can use as meat human shields
- 1st map is the introduction (duh)
- 2nd map is the invasion; with Rios and Salem escaping from a crumbling building
- 3rd map takes place in a zoo
- 4th map takes Rios and Salem to a hospital

i remember being so hyped for the first game and it turned out to be crap :(.
To bad it had some potential
rohan @ Mar 6th 2009 10:52AM
is the first one worth getting for the PS3?
Marty @ Mar 6th 2009 11:15AM
It's not worth getting for any system.
Mazrael @ Mar 6th 2009 11:20AM
maybe if your desperate for games..
If you do, make sure you only play it co op, as the AI buddy is a waste of time, usually putting him in cover, staying there, while I clear each room, otherwise he will fail the mission for you (whether thats just getting it's self killed, or dragging you out of cover to heal you, getting you both killed)
the first game only has 6 levels, they were the only decent ones they made out of 12-14 levels. I remember hearing most of the game was gutted out, leaving gaps in plot & missions..
Professor Lario @ Mar 6th 2009 11:53AM
It is a terrible game - even co-op can't squeeze any fun from it. Go to Metacritic - sort games by score and work your way down the list from the highest score. I am sure you see a title that you haven't played yet before you come to Army of Two. Buy that game.
Vcize @ Mar 6th 2009 12:05PM
Haters.
The game was a very fun romp-through in co-op if you don't take yourself too seriously.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 6th 2009 12:08PM
me and my friend liked it ok. he was super excited for it and i came over the day he got it. we played through the co-op in like 2 days and trust me, i've played much worse games. it was pretty enjoyable at times. that said, after the co-op story is done, the game is absolutely useless. so should you buy it? No. but if you know you have a friend coming over, it may be worth a couple bucks to rent it for a couple days if you don't have anything else to play.
Vidikron @ Mar 6th 2009 2:06PM
@Vcize
Heh... you always like to bash on Resistance 1 although you can make the exact same argument for it too. I personally think R1 is worlds better than AoT, so it's kind of funny to see you defending AoT.
Anyway, AoT is passable in co-op. My brother and I played through the game once, but really had no desire to play it any more after that. It was just sort of a let down. They had built it up to be this amazing co-op experience where co-op would be crucial and you would have plenty of opportunity to specialized co-op activities... like the whole one person drives a fork lift while the other rides and shoots from the lift... yet that, like everything else, never made it into the final game.
All that was left was those stupid sequences where they would force you back to back for a quick shootout. And those sections were stupid because they were just too forced. You would be stuck back-to-back out in the open when cover would just a few feet away. For example, you remember that section where you parachute down onto that carrier deck? I actual tried to steer my parachute back behind some cargo containers because that would have made the most sense, yet at the last second the game through me back out into the open and put us into one of those forced back-to-back segments. Just dumb.
Vidikron @ Mar 6th 2009 2:07PM
*threw me back out into the open
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 6th 2009 2:39PM
Resistance 1 co-op was awesome. actually the game that made me realize i like co-op in shooters since i'm not really the biggest shooter fan in the world.
kentuckyfried @ Mar 13th 2009 1:49PM
I had alot of fun with this game. You need a buddy though, just like you do for RE5.
I don't understand why there are so many haters of this title.
From what I understand from an EA employee, developing this game was a total mess, but I think the team managed to pull something together that was playable and enjoyable.
CannabisPrime @ Mar 6th 2009 10:54AM
Was the first one even any good?
baby sea tuna @ Mar 6th 2009 11:04AM
No. Very much no.
webster1990 @ Mar 6th 2009 11:09AM
i thought it was pretty good. online was shite, but playing through it with a friend was pretty fun. But then again i'm a sucker for co-op.
Mechanical @ Mar 6th 2009 11:15AM
Very much so, provided you aren't expecting anything profound out of it. It's very enjoyable, provided you're, well, playing co-op.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 6th 2009 12:12PM
like everyone else it saying, as long as you were playing co-op with an actual real life person, it was a very enjoyable game. the arcade aspect with the scores of kills and deaths for each level got pretty competitive sometimes between my friend and i. and the weapon customization system isn't bad either. just don't expect the world from it and you can have a good couple days of fun with it.
DiggyStyle @ Mar 6th 2009 12:41PM
I think it was better than the similar game "Kane & Lynch", but that isn't saying much. I am a sucker for Co-op as well and this filled a little void for me at the time of its release. Its worth a weekend rental if you plan on having someone to play coop with, but single player, it is a bit below average.
Lee @ Mar 6th 2009 12:57PM
No. It was garbage.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 6th 2009 2:35PM
i despised Kane & Lynch. i only played the demo but just in that short span i developed a hate for it. the mechanics where weird first off and then the vulgar language was just terrible. and i tell ya, i love me a Tarintino flick so cursing very rarely gets to me but that game just made me completely uncomfortable. Army of Two had a much better presentation.
Dirty @ Mar 6th 2009 10:55AM
A zoo level! Freaking Sweet. I cant wait to slaughter all the little animals and fist bump with their blood dripping from my hand.
joeybeast @ Mar 6th 2009 11:08AM
Giant pandas!

Please! Split-screen co-op!
Kevin949 @ Mar 6th 2009 11:05AM
? First one had SS co-op, why wouldn't this one?
Think Adrian @ Mar 6th 2009 12:06PM
It did? I thought it was only online!
What did I miss? :)
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 6th 2009 12:14PM
you missed a pretty decent co-op experience.....go grab a friend and rent it now
Kevin949 @ Mar 6th 2009 12:26PM
You can even do split screen online against other real players. LoL Just like halo. All you gotta do is have your buddy log in on the second controller and press start at beginning screen. That's it.
Duke @ Mar 6th 2009 11:00AM
I have trouble getting excited for this. The first game sounded like a great concept, but when I went to play it there was nothing too thrilling about it. In fact, I have barely played through my copy at all. I guess I need to play some more of the 1st one to see if I can find anything to hope for more of in a sequel.
assyriska_forever @ Mar 7th 2009 8:30AM
Army of two is a good game. I played the whole game with my brother. You can play the offline missions with a friend at home if u and ur friend got ps3 and internet. I recommend it.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 6th 2009 11:07AM
The first one was a good rental. I bought it but luckily got to trade it (for the PS3 version for my boys) while it was still worth something. I just wish the MP wouldve been way more like Gears MP. It had the wierdest laggy MP I've ever played. As soon as I got the ch33voz I stopped playing it. :( Looks like it will prob suck again. My kids love it though, I got it for them since they love co-op.
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 6th 2009 11:10AM
"Looks like it will prob suck again."
The MP that is, not the SP.
I actually played through the campaign several times. Good times...
Dracard @ Mar 6th 2009 11:10AM
Just for kicks, I googled 'ch33voz.'
The amount of results made me very sad.
Duke @ Mar 6th 2009 12:03PM
Yes, but all those results were from other Fenix postings, so don't fret.

i would be ok with never seeing the "word" cheevo or any of it's variants again
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 6th 2009 1:52PM
Who cares...I like it.
H Choi @ Mar 6th 2009 11:08AM
Why not make an Army of Four?
Dirty @ Mar 6th 2009 11:14AM
And when our fist bumps combine we form captain douche bag (who incidentally looks a lot like sonic the hedgehog after collecting 7 chaos emeralds, only.... you know.... a douche.)
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 6th 2009 12:18PM
Army of Four? why stop there? the PS3 can accept 7 controllers. you'd probably go blind from the shear magnitude of fist bumps (and the inevitable squinting from the gridded split screen).
WiredKnight @ Mar 6th 2009 3:37PM
Because that's a squad.
And that would just be silly.
H Choi @ Mar 6th 2009 3:39PM
Are there even any games for the PS3 that support 7 controllers?
Josh BR @ Mar 6th 2009 11:11AM
I loved the first one. If you have a friend to play with the game is great other wise not worth your time.
mulletman13 @ Mar 6th 2009 11:17AM
Single player was crap for the first one, but with split screen co-op this game was second to none. With the right partner, it was amazing. It introduced a lot of fun things into the mix, and I can't wait to see how they'll improve on it this time.
IE: Pass on it if you don't have a friend that would be into it.
rbanke @ Mar 6th 2009 11:31AM
I was excited about the first, bought it and my buddy and I played straight through. Then the bugs started. Towards the end the save games were completly buggy on us, loosing our money totals, getting stuck at checkpoints, forgetting we even made it to certain missions. By the end, my friends total was like 1000 dollars, while mine was hundreds of thousands. We loved the game, but we were so turned off by the bugs that I traded it in the next day. It didnt help that we completed it in around 5.5 hours and didnt care for the online component.
I may pick up the sequel but not until I hear from people who buy it about any bugs it might have.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 6th 2009 12:21PM
that pretty much sums my experience with the game completely. we had alot of fun with the co-op but now that you mention it, i remember how buggy it was at the end of the game. it was already pretty hard at the end and fighting the bugs made it pretty friggin difficult. if they can better the co-op even more and fix the bugs in this one, i'll certainly give a week long rental and me and my buddy can play it.
NOOK @ Mar 6th 2009 11:41AM
I'm 100% certain that I read "40th Day" like a few thousand times already a month ago on Google when I was searching for a cheap shop to buy the first one for my brother ...
vedgiee @ Mar 6th 2009 11:53AM
Hopefully this time around, you can actually shoot people.
I thought EA was cutting down on their crappy failing titles. guess not..
mgsrocks1 @ Mar 6th 2009 11:55AM
Whoa...they go to a hospital after visiting the zoo? Man, those rabbits are a bitch! They look all cute and stuff but the moment you turn around, bam! Right in the kisser.
Discotheque @ Mar 6th 2009 1:21PM
Be careful of the rabbits.
