Wii's Resident Evil fans will be 'very happy very soon,' Capcom says

Though we're usually reticent to make a connection between ravenous undead hordes and happiness, Capcom's Resident Evil franchise has proven adept at uniting dire consequences with gaming euphoria. With Resident Evil 5 set to launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 13th, Wii owners may have felt somewhat left out of all the neck-chomping fun.

While submitting that Resident Evil 5 "pushes the boundaries of graphics and gameplay," Capcom's Associate Product Marketing Manager, Matt Dahlgren, had something more to say when prodded about a Wii version. "It was made for the Xbox 360 and PS3," he told our correspondent, Xav de Matos, at a recent Capcom event in Toronto. "That being said, Nintendo Wii fans will be very happy very soon."

When asked if we could expect an announcement during this month's GDC or E3 later this year, Dahlgren only offered, "Very soon." The exact nature of this impending happiness is up for speculation (examples: Biohazard 0's Wii port coming stateside! A remake! Umbrella Chronicles 2!), so we'll leave that to you.

Really don't think they'd do a game in the older style on the Wii. Nintendo are Nazis and make every company utilize the gimmicks that their hardware offers. I don't think a remake of a classic style Resident Evil game would work well with the Wii controls.

Unless, of course, they remade one of the classic games in the RE4 Wii engine. RE1 or 2 in that engine might actually top the RE1 GC remake - which was my favorite.

Games like Monster Hunter G, which use the Classic Controller exclusively, say "hi."

Nintendo have NEVER been "Nazis" about which control methods developers use. They give them options, and they choose what they're gonna work with. It's just like the DS. Sure it has a touch screen and a microphone, but developers don't NEED to use it.

I'm calling it right now: Umbrella Chronicles 2.

My reasoning being:
1) The reveal is happening March 12th, at the RE5 launch party event.
Capcom PR is NOT going to upstage RE5 with the announcement of the much demanded RE2 remaked.

2) Capcom people have said in recent weeks both that if you're a fan of Code Veronica, you'll be very happy. They've also said that if you're a fan of RE2, you'll want to keep your ears perked up.
I realize that the games COULD be tied together via a common character, but those two statements, given the context they were given in, strongly suggest RE:UC2 with CV and RE2 scenarios.

Since Capcom has since said that they will be announcing gameS, I'm also betting that the other game will be some sort of shitty iPhone game.

Not sure I'd want a dumbed down RE5 if it was similar to Chop til you Suck.

Why not use the Wiimote? RE4 w/ the pointer was pretty good I think. I agree that a rails shooter is not desirable, and I hope they don't put one out.

If they give Wii owners remakes, I'd want it to be a collection of titles, and have them all use Wii style pointing. Ideally it'd be a brand new title that's meant for the Wii.

I said 'force you to use the wiimote', I like the old school controls, very much. I thought the remote aiming in 4 on Wii took something away from the game, made it less enjoyable for me, I use the classic controller! :) Options FTW.

I'd really love RE2 ala RE4 style, but feel that since they crammed 4 on PS2...well I have much faith in Capcoms ability to create a lesser version of 5 for Wii while not sacrificing too much when it comes to gameplay.

As far as Chop til you Drop, well...hopefully the poor reaction to it will serve to guide them in the future!!

AND, I own RB 1 and 2 for 360 (and tons of DLC, thank you XBLM!), Guitar Hero is not an option and it's trash compared to RB.

Downhill Jam is atrocious.
Sonic and the Secret Rings is atrocious.
Disaster: Day of Crisis is not out.
Red Steel was terrible and by definition RS2 will probably be more of the same from Ubisoft.
Wiimakes are NOT true games, I've already played and beat both Pikmin games. Already played RE4 on both GC and PS2, there is no reason to play it again even with the twitchy controls.
Call of Duty 5 is much better on PC.

The only two I'm really looking forward to is maybe No More Heroes 2 and Tales of Symphonia... and as a third, Disaster: Day of Crisis.

3 games out of now hundreds being dumped on the console isn't really encouraging...

Fact is, honestly, they don't belong anywhere near each other. Can't believe I'm saying that. Secret Rings can actually be enjoyed, Red Steel can absolutely not be enjoyed. However they're both atrocious, and I don't quite understa--*headesplodes

Thats a long list but not a very impressive one in my opinion.
We're all entitled to our opinions but I feel the Wii lineup, new and old, isn't very good.
Of all the systems I've ever owned in my life, which is pretty much everything since the Atari 2600 except Atari Jaguar CD, Virtual Boy, 32X, GP32 and Neo Geo Pocket, I've never owned so few games as I do for the Wii.

..or it will be Resident Evil Gaiden 2 for the Wii. ; )
Seriously, I will put money down on a port of RE5 developed to push the Wii to the limit.

I'm preparing myself to be disappointed. The best case scenario would be an RE5: Wii edition (in my dreams) or RE:UC2 but I have a feeling it's going to be some kind of port or gay spin-off which doesn't make me very happy.

Come of think of it, a reviewer pointed out that RE 2 and 3 were largely left out of Umbrella Chronicles, so UC2 would be almost a no-brainer.

I would prefer remakes of both though using RE4 controls if they're going to bother do anything, or better yet, a surprise new title with the ongoing adventures of our favorite pretty boy, Leon S. Kennedy.

I'll be extremely happy if it's...

- Resident Evil 2 remake (+ points if it's RE4 gameplay style)
- A game that is important to the main story and ties some loose ends which I'm sure RE5 will miss. (+ points if it's RE4 gameplay style... what can I say, I love RE4 lol)

I'll be extremely UNhappy if it's...

- An on-rails type game of any kind.
- Resident Evil 0 Wii Edition (in fact, I will RAGE so damn hard if it's this)
