1UP points out that, according to iPhone app tracking site Mobclix, more than 6,000 iPhone / iPod Touch games are now available via Apple's iTunes App Store. The digital distribution service, which launched July 11, 2008, is home to over 20,400 apps across multiple categories, of which games comprise 23% (the largest slice). 17% of all iPhone games are in the puzzle genre.
Each week, Joystiq's newest feature, iPhone It In, takes a look at one prominent iPhone game. If you're looking for something new to play on your phone this weekend, you absolutely can't go wrong with Edge, Rolando, Zen Bound, Sway or Fieldrunners. They're swell.

Sorry if I don't believe the Jesus Phone is as groundbreaking as some sheep have been lead to believe.
As I don't believe in controlled hardware, controlled software, drm and the dumbing down of things to the point they are idiot-proof.......I'm not a fan of the silver soulless apple.
The Rainbow apple was a company I respected. The new ITunes profit lead Apple version is a pale version of its former self......

Imagine how lame it would be to have to buy into a service plan to use either the DS or PSP.

I wonder if joystiq will acknowledge that the PSP has a lot of freeware that is on par with the wares found in Apple's app store. http://www.psponme.com/

Only if you admit that this is the type of game you'll find over there:

C'mon guy. You can get hundreds of free games like that for the iPhone. That's what people are complaining about here - junk games clogging up the pipes.

As far as I now, most of the games aren't actually worth touching and consist of really simple stuff that's not even on par with decent Flash titles. 6,000 games means nothing if not one of them deserves my money.

In other news, the "crap" count at the iPhone Marketplace has reached 5,500...

hooray for the iphone!!
Now there's a place for all the crapware to go instead of the DS or PSP. (btw: has "Elf Bowling" made it to the iphone yet?)
Now, all we need is for Ubisoft to dump all their crap over, and the DS will be sitting pretty.

I use my iPhone for gaming just as much as my 360, if not more. Not that I don't prefer my xbox, but I'm rarely home.
There really are some fantastic games out there for the iPhone. I'm not unhappy with my purchase in the least. (Now... DON'T get me started on ATT... they suck.)
Buying an RPG in the same vein as the old Wizardry games, with about 40 hours of gameplay, for about $5? Hell yeah!
Even if a game is crappy, most often you're only spending $.99, so it's not a huge loss.
I've paid $.99 for games that Ive played more than a $60 360 game.
