The Conduit to use Wii Speak, new trailer sizzles with 'conspiracy'
It's been a while since we've seen anything out of High Voltage's little-shooter-that-could, The Conduit -- a problem that was expediently rectified on last night's episode of GameTrailers TV. In addition to the revelation that the game won't support Wii MotionPlus but will allow users to chat via Wii Speak, the latest trailer for the shooter, titled "Conspiracy," was aired.
In addition to showing a sizable chunk of gameplay, the trailer (which we've posted after the jump) gives further hints regarding the game's plot. Here's what we've pieced together: There's a conspiracy (Aliens? Illuminati? Grassy Knoll?), which appears to be causing protagonist Michael Ford to have a very bad day. Don your tinfoil hat, crank up the Alex Jones, and check out the trailer after the break.

It was confirmed that the game wasn't going to use motion+ weeks ago.
Still looks pretty decent. I'll have to give this game a shot.
pedasn @ Mar 7th 2009 2:12PM
i'll gonna give it a whole ammo-clip
Markez @ Mar 7th 2009 2:36PM
Whether you intended the initial pun or not, it was a pretty lame one that I still loled at :P
ILL GIVE THIS GAME BOTH BARRELS
PR0FT3A de V1DA @ Mar 7th 2009 5:02PM
I'll give it a shot, looks great...
if MS gets Halo and Sony gets Killzone then the Conduit should def be Ninitendo's si-fi shooter. Finally the Wii controls aren't so "gimmiky" like lot of people always say, this game knows how to make the best of it
Cody @ Mar 7th 2009 6:07PM
I love how ppl are selling this game out without even having played it yet.
Lord of the Patapons (slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 7th 2009 6:13PM
@ Cody
it's called hype. you'll get used to it.

Ever heard of Metroid?
DeoWulf @ Mar 8th 2009 9:20PM
@the baron
Indeed, that's what I was thinking. Metroid was great.
WorMzy @ Mar 7th 2009 2:13PM
Hopefully it come with the WiiChat microphone thingy, because I don't want to have to buy that shitty Animal Crossing game just for one.
Spike @ Mar 7th 2009 2:21PM
u can get one standalone, or possibly just use a usb mic
WorMzy @ Mar 7th 2009 2:47PM
I've yet to see a stand alone WiiSpeak in the UK, but I'll keep an eye open for one.
Lionbacker steamID: detfan1957 @ Mar 7th 2009 6:04PM
if string.comment = "shitty animal crossing game" then
opinion.invalidated = true
end if
WorMzy @ Mar 7th 2009 6:15PM
Heh.
8-bit.artist @ Mar 7th 2009 9:14PM
no he is right, animal crossing is terrible.
Dustin @ Mar 8th 2009 12:04AM
Pfff... I can understand liking the Wii Animal Crossing if you've never played the Gamecube or DS version.
WorMzy @ Mar 8th 2009 4:16AM
I've played the Gamecube one. It's just a whole lot of moving random items from one lazy-ass villager to another, and collecting fossils, bugs and fish.
Yawn.
Extinction @ Mar 8th 2009 5:23AM
@Lionbacker
You suck at programming
opinion.invalidated = (string.comment = "shitty animal crossing game")
Lionbacker steamID: detfan1957 @ Mar 8th 2009 4:48PM
Hey, its been like a year since I last programmed.
I guess I should have done this before the whole thing:
dim comment as string
Dreganfyre @ Mar 9th 2009 9:52AM
Hmmm...
dim comment as string
opinion.invalidated = (comment.toLower Like "*shitty animal crossing game*")
WorMzy @ Mar 9th 2009 2:52PM
*sigh*
You wouldn't need to "dim comment", as it's already a defined variable.
"dim comment as string" would result in comment being null, in which case opinion.invalidated would always be false.
Which of course is how it should be, because it's an opinion, not a fact. You guys just happen to disagree. :)

My attention is now officially got.
Shmil @ Mar 7th 2009 2:21PM
voice chat? zounds!
ChromeAlchemist @ Mar 7th 2009 2:26PM
Game looks awesome, just awesome.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, first day purchase. The only other first day purchases I've made in a while have been house of the dead, and it will be MadWorld in a week or so, along with this when it graces the UK.
J-Link @ Mar 7th 2009 2:29PM
Yeah, its a shame we have to wait a little longer for Masdorld and the Conduit here in the UK though.
J-Link @ Mar 7th 2009 2:27PM
Who actually has Wii Speak? Is it any good?
David Hinkle @ Mar 7th 2009 2:38PM
I have it. It's, uh, not that great.
Archon @ Mar 7th 2009 2:39PM
Is it good? No, not really.
It's like asking "Hi, I bought a PC and I was thinking about getting this webcam thing. Is it any good?"
David Hinkle @ Mar 7th 2009 2:39PM
I should probably elaborate:
For most folks, the Wii sits near the TV. The length of the cord isn't too long, so the speaker is stuck next to your TV. That means your sound is going to come through like crazy (unless you want to play with little-to-no sound), causing echoes and overall poor performance. At least, that's the case for me.
J-Link @ Mar 7th 2009 2:52PM
That's a shame... I hear you can use any usb headsets though.
Mr Khan @ Mar 7th 2009 5:00PM
Interesting that it has those feedback problems, you'd think that would be something Nintendo would have compensated for.
Wolblade @ Mar 8th 2009 11:19AM
The microphone is supposed to be able to filter out the noise of the television. IGN has said that it works just fine.
Though, I can't speak for everyone as there are bound to be flaws here and there.
Apachai @ Mar 7th 2009 2:41PM
Wow, so I can actually HEAR the leet talk while playing online? That's...horrible. But the game looks great, first day purchase for me.
I Like Corn @ Mar 7th 2009 3:18PM
I don't know about you, but I like being able to talk to the people I'm playing against. If I can't, I feel like I might as well be playing against the AI.
Especially if you play against your friends. Smash Bros. Brawl online multiplayer was really quickly ruined for me because I couldn't talk to my friends when I played online.
The Wii isn't a bad system, but it has terrible support. The Conduit and Madworld show that games can look pretty good on the system, but only NOW are we really getting any of that. And only recently is limited voice support given any more than a "Only child rapists and jrude erkwads use voice chat" attitude.
DBuck_Eye @ Mar 7th 2009 4:46PM
The only people you can talk to online are the ones who are your friends, so it's your own fault if your friends are a bunch of losers, or you don't have any friends so you had to go exchange your code online to find some "friends."

This is a hard game for me to judge. Do I compare it to the plethora of other FPS on the PS3 & 360 or do I compare it to the other handful of FPSs on the Wii? It's going to without a doubt fall extremely short if compared to Far Cry 2, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Orange Box, COD MW & WAW, Bioshock and some of the other great FPS titles on the PS360. It's one of those things where it will probably be successful because it's going to be one of the first competitive FPSs on the Wii. Is it fair to hold it to a different standard than every other game in the same genre because it's on a different system? I'm just not sure at this point because I have seen creatvitity on the Wii not on other platforms (Madworld & Galaxy) as well as craptastic ports (COD WAW & Bros In Arms). I'm interested to see how it will be recieved and reviewed by gamers and journalist alike. Being a multiconsole owner I can get better FPS experiences elsewhere so I don't know that I should be excited just because it's on the Wii. If this were a PS3 or 360 exclusive everyone would call it another generic FPS. However, because it's on the Wii it seems to have gotten a free pass up to this point.
I won't buy it on day 1 like I more than likely will do for Madworld but I am not going to write it off yet either. I'll just have to wait and see how good it is but it's going to be hard to not compare it to other games that will seemingly have better graphics, controls, AI and multiplayer. The one thing that can set this game apart IMO is an incredible story. I hope it if it is a good title that it does sell well so we can get more muletiplayer games on the Wii which is certainly one of the things it severly lacks.
