It seems the Don has been spending some time in Paradise City, returning from his extended vacation with a pair of the city's more recognizable rides. Eagle eyes at Polish site Play PC recently discovered similarities between two cars in both Godfather II and Burnout Paradise, namely the latter's Hunter Cavalry and Carson Opus.
Whether or not the cars in the upcoming EA sequel are the exact same models as those in Burnout, or just strikingly similar, isn't exactly clear. In any case, the Don's chop shop looks like it sanded off most of the details from Burnout's rides. When you're the Don, image is everything; we just hope the new paint jobs are as bulletproof as they are green.

Burnout has been out for more than a year and it still looks leagues better than Godfather 2. Man G2 looks like crap.

Don't insult PS2 games in HD. Gran Turismo 4 looked much better than that.

Seriously, it looks really really bad. I have no idea how they thought they could release something so last gen-looking in ought nine. These aren't stylized graphics, these aren't cell shaded cartoon-style graphics. They're just ugly. You don't have to be a graphics-whore to see it.

Do you guys really care that much about graphics? Really? It doesn't look as bad as everyone is making it sound.

Burnout looks so eye-meltingly pretty that you really don't want your game compared with it, anywhere.
Especially when it looks like horseshit.

Yeah. For Wii owners like me, it's particularly disappointing that they've managed to make a game which looks like it's running on a Wii even on PS3/60, but there isn't even a Wii version?
(Then again - maybe it doesn't have insane draw-in like the first on Wii.)

Is it that hard to get a license for real cars? Or do they really want to do everything themselves.

Well I don't know about Godfather but I know Criterion is unable to acquire the rights to real cars due to the car owners not wanting to see the cars destroyed in Burnout.

It's the same reason Need for Speed dosn't have any people. The car manufactures don't want people getting hit with their cars. They are very overprotective with their products.

It's not *hard*, it's just *expensive*. Even if they get a license, they still have to do the modeling themselves, so they can just skip the license fee and model something fake.

No, it's not. The extent and stylization of the damage between the two games is completely different. Burnout glorifies and pretty much encourages you to crash (because it looks awesome, even if you're losing your lead), and in Forza you're very much not supposed to even bump other cars.

I have to agree. Just because the car looks like one in Burnout, which was modeled after real vehicles, doesn't mean they're modeled after each other...

Is it just me, or do these two cars not look similar at all? Obviously, outside of the car's color.

But these are definitely not the same models. Just look at the screenshot. They're similar, not identical. It's possible data was reused, but I'm siding more with "inspired by" or perhaps "rebuilt". Even if you make a new model from scratch, you do save on design time.

And according to the Burnout Wiki (http://burnout.wikia.com/wiki/Hunter_Cavalry):
"[The Hunter Cavalry] essentially mixes the three best aspects of the '70 Boss Mustang, the '68-'69 Pontiac GTO and the '70 Plymouth Barracuda - the Mustang's iconic rear fascia, the GTO's interesting front fascia, and the Barracuda's streamlined side with the Barracuda line decal."

Thanks, Joystiq. For pointing out that Burnout Paradise looks leagues better than GTA: San Andreas.

The cars are both based on the 69 pontiac gto. the one in burnout has the 69 firebird dual headlights, but both have the mustang rear end. the firebird comes to more of a point at the center of the grille. and indeed the graphics for burnout are better, but it is just about wrecking cars. no auto manufacture wants to see their products destroyed. they can not say anything if a developers end results look "similar" to their actual model. they let games like nfs and grid use their cars because they are not using them to cause damage to people or personal property. in godfather and gta they use cars as weapons and that will "make kids do the same" as all the government officals would say. but i would say that it does look similar to eachother, but there is major differances.

You should watch the film.
There are two stories being told at two different times:
1) the humble beginnings and subsequent rise to power of Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando in The Godfather, Robert DeNiro in The Godfather II)
2) his son Michael (Al Pacino in both films) leading the family in the next generation after his consolidation of power following Vito's death
I don't know how closely the game will follow the film, but the cars are probably from Michael's era.
