If you've long harbored dreams of motoring monstrous automobiles down long stretches of highway in post-apocalyptic Australia, they probably won't be coming to fruition any time soon. Mad Max director George Miller, in an interview with MTV Multiplayer, confirmed that while preliminary work on a video game adaptation of his Gibson-infused vehicular thriller has begun, the finished title is still "a couple of years away."
Miller, a self-professed unskilled gamer, says he sees real potential in making such an adaptation, and in the gaming medium as a whole. He sees the Mad Max game, which he's working on in collaboration with God of War II director Cory Barlog, as "an opportunity to make a novel," noting the evolution of storytelling in games in recent years. We appreciate rich stories in games as much as the next guy, but we hope Miller realizes he also has the "opportunity" to make a badass action game as well.

They already had a Mad Max adaptation. It's called Fallout.

I mean come on, look at that picture...

Not three for sure. One and two, maybe, given how generally sparse the locations were between each other and how everything between them was a "true wasteland".
Mad Max was set in a very-rough literal post-apocalyptic wasteland and the newest Fallout was a bit way to lively, not to say overpopulated, to fit the setting.

Pen and paper, or a computer. The choice is yours.

Also, I chuckled when I read Miller was working with the God of War director specifically for this 'novel' game. It's like asking Ronald McDonald on tips on how to run a Michelin Star restaurant. There is no coherent correlation between the two.

Umm it's a collaboration between Miller and Barlog. Miller will clearly be handling the story details.

Speaking of Mad Max, where the hell did Borderlands go?

Yes, it was pretty fun back in the day. Actually, I think I still have my copy of it.

Fallout 3 doesn't have cars. It's not really Mad Max if there aren't cars

Fallout 2 had a car though.... I don't see how they could make a Mad Max game without it being similar to the Fallout series. considering that fallout uses a lot of Mad Max references...
It would also be quite similar to an old Sega/SNES game.... Outlander...
I'll be waiting for it anyway, nothing wrong with post apocalyptic fun....

Yeah, i agree with all the Fallout 1, 2 and 3 references.
BUT i feel the above comment about MAD Max being more similar to outlander more sensible.
Mad Max didnt walking about collecting trinkets, exploring deserted sewer systems, and solving mysteries. He drove around in a bad ass car, shooting people in the face with a Sawed-off Shotgun.
I feel a proper Mad Max inspired game would need to be Ultra-violent, fast past, and have an equl number of driving and on foot missions. interspersed with minigames involving siphoning gasonline from vehicles.
maybe the came can come with some kind of plastic tube peripheral?

Hmm...
I'm pretty sure that the first film was set pre apocalypse.... There was ice-cream and holiday retreats...
A degenerating society true, but that in itself would be an interesting setting...

= "Speaking for myself and everybody I know, we are waaaaaay too lazy to bother with something like this right now. Likely ever. Seriously"
Sounds like BS to me, really, and they should just squash the stupid gossip over it. Saying a couple of years away means that no one is remotely serious about it.

Mad Max is the ultimate badass. But really, I'm not too excited about this game because No Mel = No Max.

The closest to a mad max game so far has been Interstate76. It was a funky mad max.
(well i guess it was really Roadwar, but thats so old it doesn't count now...)
I've never understood why we dont have loads of Mad Max games... but I have (moderate) hopes for Borderlands and Rage.
They really need to get some of the i76 devs on board though.... that game was so close...

There's already talk of a new Mad Max movie:

The game is probably a tie-in to that movie.
