There will be plenty of butterfly floating and bee stinging in the ring this summer, as EA announced that Muhammad Ali will be one of two cover athletes for Fight Night Round 4. The boxing legend will share the space with powerhouse and controversy magnet Mike Tyson. We just hope Ali knows to duck out of the way should Tyson's eyes flash red before schooling "Iron Mike" in a lesson of sweet science.
Both will be playable in the upcoming title, which is currently in development at EA Canada. Also, eager players who lay down a pre-order for Fight Night Round 4 at GameStop will net early access to the game's demo, giving them some extra time to live out pugilistic dreams before the rest of the world laces up.

They have recently re-released it as a Platinum Hits/Greatest Hits title for $19.99 for both 360 and PS3. Definitely worth it.

I'm going to say that I will buy UFC Undisputed over Fight Night Round 4 mainly because I don't like fighting games anymore. Now, I would probably buy Fight Night if it had a current roster with the likes of Pac-Man, Andre Berto, Paul Williams, James Kirkland, Michael Katsidis, Chris Aereola, Juan Diaz, Yoriorkis Gamboa, Ronald Hearns, David Haye, Chad Dawson and other great current fighters. I understand the appeal of having this type of game with the all time legends but I would take something with a large current crop of great fighters over it instead.
Yukes Osaka is making the UFC undisputed game and they also did the newest Legends Of Wrestlmania game. Even if THQ can't release this game it will get picked up by another developer (probably EA). Conversely, I think this game is going to be so good and so big (sales wise) that it's actually going to help THQ tremendously and help get them out of financial trouble.
@Fenix
I didn't see your message on PSN until after UFC 96. I usually watch the fights on my laptop and then connect it to my T.V. and blow it up. I've watched a few on the PS3 but like you said most channels require I.E. or MZ FF.
I think the Rampage vs Evans fight is a hard one to pick. On one hand you have Greg Jackson getting to gameplan for a second fight in a row against Rampage but on the other hand you have Rampage training seriously again, throwing kicks and getting takedowns. I would tend to think that Rampage has better power but we have seen Evans have some of the best standup in MMA against The Iceman and Forrest Griffin. I need to think about it a little longer but if I had to pick now I would go with Rampage.
I think Frank Mir is going to beat Brock Lesnar again but this time it will be handedly. After his performance against Noguiera (a vastly superior fighter to Lesnar who had never been stopped) I believe he is the best heavyweight in the UFC. Now, I still don't see him beating Fedor if they ever fought but I think he will beat Lesnar, Carwin, Kongo and the other UFC heavyweights.
Taking Shogun over Liddell and obviously Silva over Leites. Can't wait for this UFC undisputed game and I really hope it turns out as good as it looks.

Hopefully it will include the best fighters in the current game. On that note lets take out Michael Katsidis and Chris Aereola and replace them with either of the Marquez brothers, Vasquez, Cotto, Mosley, or Hopkins and we have a deal. : )

Lario,
Right now I only have a PS3 & Wii. I had a 360 but sold it to a friend of mine around Christmas. Now, if some of the 360 exclusives turn out to be awesome this year I might pick up a newer model around Summer time. I want to make sure the Jaspers are rock solid before I go getting another one.
Short Answer: PS3 & Wii only for now.

Lario,
Two other things ...
1. Did you see James Kirkland fight Joel Julio this weekend? I'm starting to believe that this guy and Paul Williams are the two closest boxers we have to Iron Mike when he was in his prime. Obviously they are in different classes but both of them have endless energy, lots of punching power and never stop coming forward. Other than WIlliams fluke loss to Carlos Quintanna (which he avenged viciously) the guy has been unstopable and has been the most avoided fighter in boxing. He beat cheating ass Margaritto before we knew he had a brick in his gloves. That's even more impressive now that we know what we do after the Mosely fight.
I have no doubts that Williams is going to knockout a washed up Winky Wright next month.
2. In a few weeks Roy Jones Jr is fighting Omar Sheika in Pensacola, FL. I live about an hour away from there and plan to attend the even with my fiance. It's a cool hybrid card because it also features an MMA bout between Ken Shamrock and Bobby Lashley. None of the fights are of much signifigance but it's still good to see Roy fight in the twilight of his career as he has always been one of my favorites. I believe the event is going to be on PPV as well and is titled "March Badness" which is a play on words for the NCAA basketball tournaments moniker March Madness. The event takes place on Saturday March, 21st.

ah, so they'll be an achievement for playing career mode as Ali, where every fight you have got to dodge around like a coward til the opponents stamina bar is 'in the red' and then join in the fight and win... :S
Posted: Mar 9th 2009 11:51AM Johnnynumber5 is powered by cell said
Wow Mazrael you are a total idiot. Ali is one of if not the greatest boxers of all time. You act as if he did that every fight where as in reality it was one fight against George Foreman and it wasn't the entire fight either. For the first few rounds Ali came out and dazed Foreman with his quick speed and then let foreman bang away on his ribs and stomach while protecting his head. Then, after the seventh round a still fully rested and refreshed (remember Foreman was a much larger man) Ali whispered in Foremans ear "Is that all you got George?" before giving a flury of punches and overhelming Foreman into defeat. It's also important to remember that Ali was in his 30's (maybe 34) and Foreman was just 25 and was slated as the next big thing.
Calling Muhammad Ali (of all people) a coward just shows your lack of respect and ignorance. He was one of the most important athletes if not the most important in Americas history. Would a coward send himself to jail to make a political statement against an unpopular war? Would a coward get in the ring and fight? Would a coward win an olympic gold medal? Would a coward be a three time heavyweight champion? Would a coward be named sportsman of the century? Would a coward win the Arthur Ashe courage award? Would a coward be selected by the California Bicentennial Foundation for the U.S. Constitution to personify the vitality of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights in various high profile activities?
Fight of the century, rumble in the jungle and thrilla in manilla are the three biggest boxing matches of all time and all starred Ali.
He is anything but a coward.

I may not be the biggest boxing follower.. but he used to move quickly around the ring, with his arms low (rather than up by his face), avoiding punches with his speed.
'Rope-a-dope' wasn't until 74, late in his career, against George 'PS3' Coleman at 'Rumble in the Jungle' - his professional career spanned from 1960 to 1981.
taking a load of body shots, while countering with punches to the head, waiting out for those weak ineffective punches, is gonna take some doing.
one of his fights inspired the Rocky films, where 'Rope-a-Dope' was used by Rocky in Rocky 3
how about.. along with the "float like a butterfly..." achievement
'Rope-a-Dope' where you win a fight with said tactic against an opponent your said to lose against.. (bit like those 'beat someone ranked 20 levels higher' achievement)

Almost true, but i used Goliath; the fat red head with dreads and ended many an online match early against Ali. That being said, i hope they add a bevy of fighters...
I found it really annoying to go online only for people to want to fight heavy weight 98% of the time to choose, guess who?
Ali...
Ken/ Ryu much people?

maybe 'like a coward' has been misunderstood.. it's nothing against Ali. but whenever I play any fighting game, I just get in there, get it done. not holding back 'like a coward'.. with (although different) Soul Caliburs 'impacts/just impacts', which for me never happen in my normal play. Wii Boxing, I don't use dodging or leaning.

Hey... there are three things I want to see before buying this game:
a) A Wii version... would not be great to see Little Mac and Mike Tyson in a fight? Yeah, I know there is Punch Out Wii for this, but still I will have hopes...
b) More achievements in the XBox 360 version... 8 for the Round 3 made the game very poor...
c) Julio Cesar Chavez... all mexicans demand this legendary pugilist in the game...

No Ingemarr Johansson (spelling?), either. No white heavyweight boxers at all, unless they're custom jobs.

Here are my questions about FN4 (because I don't care to look them up myself):
* Is this one going to be like FN3, and have ONLY hip-hop music in it? Because that's really annoying to boxing fans who aren't hip-hop fans.
* Are they going to let me actually assign a song to my created boxer, or will it just default to the same song for everyone like FN3 does?
* Did they even consider letting me use the next-gen consoles' ability to store music so that I could put my OWN music in the game, as a boxer's theme?
* Is this game going to have a Fight Store that's filled with $800,000 mouthpieces and million-dollar shoes, too? Because that was sort of dumb.
* If I can make $400,000 fighting some no-name schmuck as the champ, then why can't I make $750,000 doing an endorsement of some sort? Why am I paying $800,000 for a pair of gloves when I just won the manufacturer's sponsored fight? Why am I not making a commercial and getting my gloves for free? Do they understand how pro sports work over there at EA? The athlete doesn't PAY to use a sponsor's product!!!
* Are the training games going to be as repetitive, dull, and hair-trigger touchy as the ones in FN3?
* Do we get Burger King as a trainer, or did they switch to Ronald McDonald this time?

I am agree with this comment... if EA wants to put more hiphop in the game, at least they should put more songs... at least some rock songs... take in account that not only afroamerican people like boxing... indeed the most world champions are now latinamerican, asiatic and from West Europe...
Else, at least put more songs.... sounds depriment to hear the same song over and over again in FNR 3....

I am sure they made huge improvements and got the game to an even closer point in terms of realistic movement and good controls.

I said it once and i will say it again. More fighters please, haven't looked up the roster yet. Still, I would like for the online matches to stray away from Street Fighter/ FN3 monotony. Ali Ali Ali, (skilled player- Jeff Lacy) Ali Ali Ali. The heavy weight class in FN3 IMO suffered from a serious drought in fighters.
Also get rid of the strong = molasses physics. I remember growing up and to this day, fighters such as Ricky Hatton or Marvin Hagler are not slow if at all.The may not have foot work, but punching like a winded offensive lineman in the NFL? Gah! * You can see their punches coming a mile a way, God forbid you try and wind up for haymaker. r o f l. FN3 Loved the game, hated certain aspects of it.

GJ EA for paying a convicted rapist/madman to rep their game
Posted: Mar 9th 2009 3:36PM Mr Bungo said
Do we really need to keep paying a convicted rapist for his likeness? Granted, Tyson was huge in the sport in his prime, but given the disgusting realities of the man, I feel no need to support him by buying a game with him in it. Frankly, it's as if EA put O.J. on the cover of Madden.
The sad part is how the amazing Ali is being associated with this guy. As age and Parkinsons take their toll on one of the greatest athletes in recent history, I'd like to see a little more respect given to Ali than mixing him in with someone as reprehensible as Tyson.
