Really, when you think about it, are children all that great anyway?

Absolutely not. I'm ashamed to say that I was one once, but it was just a phase. I would never go back to that life.

What's funny to me about this is how many articles have there been about wii fit, and how so many nursing homes and rehab centers have been crediting video games for making people active. I guess it's all in who you talk to.

I have wrecked my ankle and most of my fingers have been broken at least once from playing baseball a ton when I was younger. Where is this PSA:

"Children playing sports my be dangerous and could be deadly"

To date, I have never been injured playing video games. In fact, my improved reflexes (thanks video games) have allowed me to avoid being hit with thrown controllers.

Gaming is a pretty useless hobby and should be balanced with OTHER healthyisher hobbies, but this ad campaign is pretty retarded in presenting their opinion.

it's not completely useless. it hones reflexes and some teach you real life values. like never attack an enemy from the front because you get a damage bonus if you attack from the back. or if you die, you could just reload your save.

...

never mind.

I'm amused by the fact that Mario is brought up in the article header in the link I was sent to when I clicked the picture.

Regardless, the kid actually looks like's bored by whatever game he's playing, which is still a tad more realistic than every single stock photo I've ever seen.

The picture was taken just before he exploded. Early death, what a shame.

I like the broad range of activities this ad campaign covers. I would like to ask them if they think READING A BOOK would fall as being more or less active than playing games.

Who knew that READING BOOKS as a child could have lead to a 9 out of 10 chance of me developing diabetes!

When did gamers become so oversensitive?
This campaign is doing EXACTLY what we have been asking for... telling parents to take responsibility for what their kids do.

Its obviously not saying that you pick up a ps controller and die, and its clearly not "singling out" gaming, its merely using it as an example.

Gaming and only gaming is bad for your health... gaming (or tv or books or whatever) in moderation is fine. Thats all this is saying.

I wish Joystiq would stop stirring things up with blatantly provocative headlines, its the exact same thing that we complain about when others do it to us.

I'd say that games increase your chances of survival. It's a very safe activity. Most other things you could do are more dangerous. Your less likely to be hit by a car or stabbed.
