That's pretty cool. My wife and I have been talking about going to that place for years. I guess they take the money from people's tours and use it to do repairs and such.

I went to Waverly Hills last summer. It was a cool experience and would recommend going for anyone interested in the paranormal.

Worth it. Visited when my friend was at the University of Kentucky. One of the creepier places I've been in my life.

Being an employee of Game Crazy, I can tell you now that the "year of free movie and game rentals" at Hollywood prize will just be a sheet of 12 free rental coupons, one for each month (and only valid within said month). Love how they try to mislead people into thinking they're getting something awesome.

The winners actually win one rental per week for 52 weeks and is good on all games and movies.

Wow, I just figured they'd go the cheap route, like always. We've done other promotions where you get a "year of free rentals" but it's just the 12 one-a-month coupons.

Living just a couple of miles from that place, I can tell you it is amazing. There is a city park adjacent to the property and we used to use it to sneak in there when we were teenagers.

These days there is always someone there. I heard they were turning it into a hotel of sorts. Im not 100% sure but there has been a lot of construction going on.

For nominal fee you can spend the night there and they take you on ghost hunts. Whether you believe in it or not, you'll have a good time.

So a Willy Wonka-esque contest takes 5 people and their guest to a haunted hospital? I think only one of them is coming back.

Eh, I'd rather have a trip to like some underground top secret abandoned high tech government facility or something. I mean, RE isn't really about hauntings :/

I snuck into that place when I was in High School... back before they started giving tours. It's gotta be one of the scariest places ever.

Is this the first Joystiq article to mention RE5 without the words "racism" or "racist" in it? Why yes, it may just be.

ive lived in louisville all my life and a couple years ago me and a few friends decided we were gonna go one night. so we parked at the apartments at the bottom of the hill and walked a half mile up a winding path only to find that it was about as fun as hanging out at a nursing home. the place was boring as hell. the only thing exciting or exhilarating about the experience was the $5000 warning sign to trespassers. to make it more interestingm when we got to the top i told everyone i thought the cops were coming so we all made a mad dash down the hill. in all honesty we went to a cemetary right after that and actually got scared as hell... for no reason.

Waverly hills wasn't shut down for patient abuse. It was for all the thousands of people who died of tuberculosis. People were dying at such a rate that the dead were kind of crowding up the place. Had to build an underground tunnel to funnel out the dead out back to the Hearst so incoming patients wouldn't be even more depressed about likely dying.

Waverly was shut down in 1961, it opened a year later as Woodhaven, then was shut down in 1980 by the state (I'm not sure why, but I would guess it was due to structural code violations seeing as it was never used again).

The tunnel was originally built for employees and supplies, only later was it used to transport corpses.

Hopefully they'll be playing "spooky" sound effects and hire the actors from universal studios holloween horror nights.

At least I wont have to pay $4 for a coke.

I have lived in Louisville my entire life, and spent a good amount of time at this place. My sister actually volunteers there as a guide. Honestly, it gives off a creepy vibe, but I have never seen or experienced anything that would make me believe it to be "haunted"
but still a somewhat cool place to go, i suppose.
During Halloween they turn it into a huge haunted house. Don't go. you end up standing in line with 2,000 other people, paying 20 bucks to get in, and all you see is the ceiling and the crappy fake walls they have built inside the palce to guild you through a path. they literally make it LESS scary by building things inside of it.
