Whether it was in poor taste or simply survival training, a game based on the Hudson River plane crash made its way onto the Discovery Channel website and was subsequently pulled. The game was called Miracle on the Hudson and recreated the traumatic events of US Airways Flight 1549, which was forced to land in the Hudson River after two of its engines were destroyed by geese.
Sadly, the game was pulled before we were able to play it, so we can't offer any hands-on impressions in our usual style. Because you know we totally would have.

That's not it.
The Discovery version was a cartoonish Flash game which had a story. You had to take off first, in flight you hit some birds, then you had to select a line of dialog to make an announcement to the passengers before gliding it in.
I played it for about 20 seconds and never looked again. Besides being pretty tacky subject matter it was a terrible game.

What the hell? Whatever they were thinking... I do not really think this was really in good taste. Even though no one died.
What was Disney thinking?

[Having pulled over a speeding driver.]
Mac: All right, how about Cat Game?
Foster: Cat Game? What's the record?
Mac: Thorny did six, but I think you can do ten.
Foster: Ten? Starting right meow?
[They go up to the car.]
Driver: Sorry about the...
Foster: All right meow. Hand over your license and registration.
[The man gives him his license.]
Foster: Your registration? Hurry up meow.
Driver: [laughing] Sorry.
Foster: Is there something funny here boy?
Driver: Oh, no.
Foster: Then why you laughing, Mister... Larry Johnson?
[Foster stares at him.]
Foster: All right meow, where were we?
Driver: Excuse me, are you saying meow?
Foster: Am I saying meow?
Driver: I thought...
Foster: Don't think boy. Meow, do you know how fast you were going?
[The man laughs.]
Foster: Meow. What is so damn funny?
Driver: I could have sworn you said meow.
Foster: Do I look like a cat to you, boy? Am I jumpin' around all nimbly-bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE?
[The man is uncontrollably laughing.]
Foster: You stop laughing right meow!
Driver: [Stops and swallows hard.] Yes sir.
Foster: Meow, I'm gonna have to give you a ticket on this one. No buts meow. It's the law.
[Rips off the ticket and hands it to the man.]
Foster: Not so funny meow, is it?
[Foster gets up to leave, but Mac shakes his hands at him, indicating only nine meows.]

NEVAR FORGET!!!...?
Srsly why? I would understand if the game contained graphic content like the geese realistically being destroyed by the engine.

Uh... what could possibly be offensive about recreating this particular crash? There was no disaster. Nobody died. It was a freaking miracle. What's to be sensitive about?

It is disgusting to think that anyone thought this would have been a good idea for the website.
Games should stick to less offensive subject matter, like World War 2, where the casualties were far less horrific than the events those Hudson River airplane passengers were forced to survive.

It's freaking hilarious that people have no problem with games that recreate wars in which millions of innocent people were killed but find a game about a heroic event in which every single person lived to be in poor taste just because it was more recent.

Don't worry, I'm sure someone will make this into an add-on adventure for the Microsoft Flight Simulator games. Their adventures are awesome.

I'm not sure if it was in bad taste. If an incident being a tragedy means games based on it are in bad taste, then you can't say that about this game.
I think the game is more of a celebration of the amazing feats that were achieved that day than anything else.

How did this end up on the Discovery site to begin with?

"Like others have said, how is this offensive? Seriously, no one died, the pilots did a bang up job, and everyone walked away. Tasteless I'll give you, but offensive? Someone needs to take a look at their dictionary."
I don't even think it's tasteless. Otherwise, great comment.
I don't understand panties in bunches about this, not at all. It's an amazing piloting feat helped along by a solid aircraft and favorable circumstances. Why should a good story with a real-life sugarcoated ending be a taboo subject for games?
