So what exactly is wrong with the controls? The review talks about contortion when things get hairy, but doesn't actually explain what the problem is. I'm kind of disappointed with this review, it basically complains that the game is too hard but doesn't really talk about anything else. Killzone: Liberation was stupidly hard, but that didn't stop it from being a great game.

good for you. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed. I too will be getting this game no matter what the reviewers say. Like the famous Det. Harry C. said once, "opinions are like assholes, everybody has one". Capt. Spaulding shirt said " if i wanna hear an asshole talk, I'd fart."

GoonieGooGoo,

I guess it depends on what you consider to be "quality". I would consider the two star ocean games, dj max fever, prinny: can i be the hero?, mana khemia and loco roco 2 quality games and those have been released in the last month or so.

Everyone please stop complaining about the whole lack of multiplayer mentioned in the review, at the top of the article it says single player....

While I agree the review is pretty crappy, it says at the top single player only, so stop complaining about the lack of multiplayer coverage.

Complaining that it's too long and has some difficult spots. It almost sounds like he wanted to race through it to get this review out of the way, especially considering the review gives absolutely no details about the game that I couldn't have seen in a screenshot and instead focuses primarily on difficulty with an emphasis on time... What is this crap? How's the multiplayer? How's the whole PS3 interaction thing? Locations? Music? Donkeys? This review isn't helpful at all!

Even more shocking is other reviews have commented that it's too easy on the normal difficulty setting.

Okay, I didn't read that it was single-player only in the review. But the rest of what I fruitlessly pissed and moaned about remains the same!

Wow this review should be deleted and completely rewritten...by someone else. Someone that will actually play the game on a psp 2000-3000.

First off, I'm pretty damn sure that the later psp's are a tad more powerfully than the 1000 phatty. I remember hearing that GOW:CO would run better on a 2000 but be choppy in a few parts on a 1000. My guess is it's the same for this game. It was probably developed for the 2000's increased RAM.

Secondly, I saw that reply by the reviewer trying to back up his wording on ps3/psp connectivity usage. He clearly states in the review that due to his psp-1000 he was unable to use it. Which is wrong. I don't care about the link, I'm reading the review on this page. I shouldn't need to hop somewhere else to hear the truth.

Poor review.

Ben, which control setup did you use? Walk with face buttons, aim with the analog? (aka the correct setup)

The community seems to have voiced it's collective opinion overwhelmingly against the review for it's content. I played the demo so I already know I'm buying the game. It makes sense to me to review the entire package of the game and not fragment it into what you felt like doing.

I don't know about this review, I enjoyed the demo (it's on the Europe PSN or Gamestop pre-order), it plays like the Syphon Filter PSP games ...... which I enjoyed. And I dont mind a game getting hard as you go along some games are too easy these days.

I'm interested how the PSP to PS3 connection works since it seems to change the gameplay.

I can't fault a reviewer for not liking a game (everybody has an opinion) this is one game I'm going to try my poor PSP needs some love.

Didn't get into Bends Syphon Filters, but loved this demo, so I wanted to know if the dual analog controls improved on it. Saw the review was up and figured I'd read on to learn more. I learned nothing.

It's amazing how everyone jumps down his throat for what I consider to be an honest review.

First point: "ZOMG! He still uses a PSP 1000!"

The developer should be developing the game to run well on ALL versions of the PSP. If they did not, then the game absolutely deserves a mark against it for not being properly developed for all versions of the PSP out there that this game is advertised to work well with. Unless of course they put a disclaimer on the box stating that PSP-1000 owners may experience stutters in framerate... Which I highly doubt is the case.

Point #2: "He didn't even play it with a Dual Shock 3 controller!"

Correct me if I am wrong, but is this not a handheld game built for a handheld console? Being tethered to your PS3 (if you even have one) kind of defeats the whole purpose doesn't it? I mean, if you want to play Resistance with a controller, wouldn't the logical solution be to play the two superior PS3 versions instead? I don't care if it controls great with this setup: I would never use it since I use my PSP for playing games on the go... I certainly almost NEVER choose to play my PSP at home when I have consoles at home with a vastly superior library of games and a MUCH MUCH MUCH larger screen to play on... Am I alone in this?

As far as multiplayer goes, I don't see how this could be fun... You will have a bunch of people playing with the controller that will have an unfair advantage over those who don't. I don't need to know anything more than that to determine that the multiplayer portions of this game will be severely slanted and ultimately unenjoyable for the majority of PSP owners out there...

The bottom line is this: this is a handheld game, and should be judged as such. In this case, from what I can tell, the game doesn't lend itself well to a handheld control scheme (if it did, there would be no need to implement an alternative way to play with a console controller). And it appears to fall flat in other crucial categories as well. As far as I am concerned, the author did his job in pointing out PLENTY of reasons to avoid this game.

I agree. Every negative comment I read reeked of fanboy-ism. I'm not a Resistance fan, so this particular review was like any other to me. All can be summarized in one sentence: a game that's too ambitious for its own good.

Thing is: they should stop trying to adapt double-analog controls to the PSP. God knows they doesn't work.

Possibly one of the worst reviews ever. He never really talks about the game. If you had no idea what the game was about and read the review you'd nothing out of it other than "its bad," which isn't very descriptive. Nothing about what modes that are available. A little about what the story is about. How the controls work (tell us why they don't work, not that they just don't). Fine if he doesn't like it, but write something worthy of being posted. And why is the review for single player only? That doesn't even make sense! I never visit joystiq, is this the "quality" writing they usually post? At least other places you get a little depth to their argument where they actually state the reasons behind their accusations. Stop giving us a wish list of what you wish the game was, and tell us about the game that is.

Man, this game is INCREDIBLE!

If you don't have it, buy it.

If you don't have a PSP, buy one. It has TONS of amazing games, and the list of AAA upcoming games is overwhelming.

Plus, there is no way the PSP2 is coming ANYTIME soon. The PSP has a ten-year lifespan, just like it's console brethren.

I wish I would have read this review before I bought the game. It's exactly as described. Impossibly hard at some points, mostly due to the controls being terrible, and at other parts it just plays along decently, but fulfilling. It's just not balanced, it is the best shooter I have played on the PSP, but it doesn't make it a good game.

Also, I agree it was fair to leave out mutliplayer in any review, because it really can't be rated acurately as it is always a different exeprience.
