We hope Konami may soon be ready to scare some truth out of earlier rumors of a Silent Hill remake for the Wii and PSP. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) recently posted a '15' rating for Silent Hill, with a listing that contains an interesting breakdown of scenes from the game with titles like "ANKH ROOM" and "CYBIL'S DEATH."
Last month's rumor laid dev duties at the feet of Silent Hill: Origins creator Climax, though Konami has yet to make anything official. We're trying to reach either Konami or Climax for comment ... but the lines are cut, and there's an unsettling noise coming from behind the door.
Of course, this could just as well be a PSN re-release. And yes, we'll take one of those too.

I've never been able to get into any of these games. I went from die-hard N64 fanboy to GC fanboy to Wii fanboy and have loved every gaming opportunity i've ever had with Nintendos last 3 consoles, but since they ARE Nintendo consoles, i have missed out on the Silent Hill games. And no, i haven't been only playing games on Nintys consoles, otherwise i would never have known the pleasures of Fable 1, FFVII, FFX, DMC 1,2,3,4 and God of War. Speaking of which, i really should get around to playing God of War 2 since i loved the first game so much. If Silent Hill gets any sort of Wiimake, count me in!!!! (finally).

I think the key for most folks was starting with either SH1 or SH2. I only went through 3 & 4 for that reason, each was worse than the one that preceded it. SH2 was excellent, didn't play 1 myself.
The Room had some incredible potential, and some great scary elements to it; ie the 1st person perspective in the apartment, the peephole outside, etc. But it ultimately reaaaaaallllly came up kind of lame in my book.

My memory on that whole series is a little fuzzy, still like them though. Esp. 1 and 3.
I've been meaning to pick up Homecoming, did you guys like it?

I hear that a lot of people liked 2 the best, it was my least favorite in the series. Can't put my finger on why exactly but
ENDING SPOILERS
The fact that my guy killed himself at the end of the game was infuriating to me.

Huh, go figure. 2 was my first SH, so perhaps that has something to do with it? There's been a number of people who have written full papers/disseratations on it so I don't think (personal opinion of course) there's any room for argument that it has the deepest story and symbolism of them all.
It was so atmospheric and surreal to me, I just really loved it. Sounds like we'd both enjoy 5 a good deal, regardless :)

I hope the graphics aren't dumbed down, because it's also being released on a weaker console (PSP).

If you have seen all ports(except ubisoft ones) released in the last 2 years, every single psp game released on wii looks way different and better on Wii(tenchu 4,force unleashed, etc).
the psp is usually a watered down version

Force Unleashed looks "way better" on Wii?? A little better yes, but the PSP version still looks and plays great!
I have both versions & I can say that PSP owners are getting the *same* game as the Wii version, no compromises (except longer loading times)

Also, jeez, what the hell happened to Team Silent?
Why are these Climax jokers handling the original game's remake?
I can already see the Pyramid Heads and sexy nurses being added, for no real reason.

1) There is no Team Silent. There were various jap teams who worked on the first 4 games, who are collectively referred to as Team Silent. But they were diff. teams in each of those game. And the main guys from those teams have long since moved on to other things.
2) Whether you like the american team or not, you dont have to worry b/c if its a remake, then all they really need to get right is the technical aspect b/c the creative side is already done for them

Purchase day one!!!
However, I have concerns. Like most Silent Hill fans, I am pretty protective of the series.
Part of what SH on the Playstation so haunting, was the low resolution capabilities of the PSX that added to the graphical effect. Rusty environments, felt rusty, etc...
So with a Wii or PSP verison, the game would have to capture that same graphical effect. I super polished or cleaned upped SH, just for the sake of being cleaned upped wouldn't have the same effect.
Granted SH2 looked miles better than SH but Team Silent immplemented that "grainy film" quailty into SH2 to capture that same vibe.
If Climax can deliver SH1 with Wii aiming controls like Resident Evil 4 Wii edition, but NOT so action driven and without over doing the waggle, then we're looking at another 90% average winner on Metacritic. In the begining of SH, imaigne holding the Wiimote up like a lighter while moving through the alleys and the fenced pin.
Oh and MSRP $19.99-29.99 would really help to move copies.

Meant to say "A super polished or cleaned up..."
and "Every town has it's secrets, some are darker than others"
This site really NEEDS to add an "Edit" button to the comments we've just made.

How stupid of me, I just thought of this.
This rumor of Silent Hill for Wii and PSP is true. Silent Hill for the Playstayion was released on January 31,1999, this year marks the 10th year anniversary of the series. What better way for Konami celebrate, than to rerelease the orginal.
