Despite the rumor to the contrary, it appears that Star Wars: Battlefront III is not in development at Pandemic, the studio responsible for the first two games. Just last week an employee from Rebellion -- where Battlefront III development moved after its initial stint at Free Radical -- reportedly stated that development had shifted to Pandemic. According to Mathew Everett, community manager at Pandemic, the game "is not currently" with the studio. He added that only LucasArts would know the fate of the title at this point.
Depending on your point of view, this news is either a terrible blow or a tremendous relief (unless you're just middlin', of course). Given the popularity of the most recent Star Wars title, The Force Unleashed, we imagine Battlefront III will find a home somewhere. Here's hoping Jabba is finally playable.

Jesus, just give up now... Given the messes that were Conquest & Mercs 2, I don't think Pandemic have the skill anymore to produce a good game, especially since development has been essentially rebooted since FR's death & rebirth.
Likewise for Rebellion - they got AvP mostly right but have they done anything that hasn't been largely mediocre since? Even the 2000AD games have been pretty lame when you consider what 'could' have been done (although Rogue Trooper was a hoot).

Strange, I rented Renegade Squadron from Gamefly and I was only ever able to find one game the entire week I had it. I would have kept the game if I knew there was a larger online community. Maybe I'll have to rent it again, I must have done something wrong.

> No BS with taking your GF out and the like... plus true co-op.
Because real gamers don't want to know about how to take a woman out :)

Honestly, I think the best thing Lucasarts could do would be to work with the good folks at Crytek Nottingham (formerly Free Radical Design) and pick up right where they left off. Because I want to be able to take off in an X-Wing and fly right out into the atmosphere, darn it, not take a 3 second break while a cutscene does it for me.

Battlefront is such a great series, i hope these studio changes don't hurt the final game changing it for the worse.

If it was with pandemic I thin that would be great. I loved the 1st SWB, but I just hope most of the stuff we saw in that wicked gameplay video from Freeradical will be in the game. If you don't know what I'm talking about here is a quote from a while ago.
Ships flew as they did in the films, missiles were copied from the flight paths in the films - if you loved starwars you would have *really really* loved this. You could pilot everything you could see in the trailer and there were huge multiplayer and singleplayer components never seen in any starwars game before. Rebellion is supposedly finishing up the game but it will be nothing like this as it will have to run on a completely different engine - said by "silasx" One Thing that is supposedely being cut is the feature to seamlessly fly from the planets atmosphere into space, now it could possibly be replaced with a stupid cutscene :(

The problem with the transition between atmosphere and space is that that particular gameplay feature is a technology patented by Free Radical.
