I would still like to see a RE2 remake. Still, a good day for RE fans. At least we are not just getting another rail shooter.

Never mind ... I understand now. You meant that it's good to get other RE games in addition to the rail shooter.

yeah, we're getting a port of a remake and the only other original RE found on a N system. Not knocking REmake, as it is the definitive version of RE. 0 is also a good title, if not just more of the same.

The rails shooter though - pass. The re-REmake - pass. Zero remake - pass. The latter two hold no value for me as I prefer to use old school controls over the wiimote method - which IMO just makes the game too easy and takes away from the tension of survival. I also already own them for the Cube.

Who am I though? Just a consumer not spending money on these products - that's who.

Capcom: gimme a call when you REmake 2, or release it on PSN. We can make a deal at that.

At least those who never got to enjoy REmake will get to do so now - awesome game.

How would waggle even work with REmake? It's hard to point the wiimote at an off screen enemy.

This is cool and all that but I don't think this makes Wii owners "very very happy" like the representative teased before the announcement. I was hoping for remakes of previous RE games in the same vein as RE:4. It seems the Wii is the go to console for rail shooters (which I do like) because of it's IR pointer.

eh, remaking RE, or anyone them RE4 style would ruin them.
They weren't meant to be played like that, and IMO, after playing RE4 so many times, RE5 wasn't a TOTAL letdown, but it wasn't what I expected.
But I guess that's just my opinion. I'd be upset if they chose to remake RE2 but as a third person action game.

The ports are good, the rail shooter bad. Umbrella Chronicles had the glaring flaw of being schizophrenic: it was as hard as an arcade shooter but it was laid out and paced like a standard RE game. Being sent back to a checkpoint is NOT acceptable in a rail shooter, especially as the result of a failed quick-time event. If they learned anything from House of the Dead Overkill (read: ripped it off completely) I'd be far more excited.

Right on!

I lasted about 30 minutes or so with Umbrella Chronicles before putting it back on the shelf. House of the Dead: Overkill, on the other hand, held my attention all the way to the end.

I'll have to take a look at the controls and see if I like them, but RE 0 and RE were definitely my favorites of the series pre-RE4 (which, to me, is the start to the new RE series) as for the rails shooter... I'll probably pass. I'll stick with HOTD thanks.

Them porting the games over to the Wii doesn't mean you'll be playing the games the way you played RE:4 - Wii Edition. In other words, it will probably be a port in which you control the characters the same way as in the original. In other words, it's the exact same game mapped to the Wii's controller and nothing more. Which sucks.

Wake me up when another Resident Evil title comes out for the Wii that plays and packs the value of RE:4. Until then, this is crap.

Consider you thinking very carefully before purchasing them, if you're smart.

As far as I'm aware from the discussion of the Japanese versions, these ports aren't RE4-style - they are basically the exact old GC games with a few extra bits stuck on. It's a very old-fashioned gameplay system - the controls are horrible.

They're still good games and all, but you need to think of it kind of like a Virtual Console 'here's what games used to be like' experience - not like RE4 'here's a great game'.

Am I 'very happy' at this news, definitely not. If I had previously thought that Capcom wasn't working on any Wii RE game at all I would be slightly happy at the news of another UC - because whatever the haters say, UC was a good game - but since I knew they were working on something, it's disappointing that it is just another UC game when it could have been so much more (ie given I knew they were developing something, UC2 is pretty much the worst possible outcome). And I'm not even counting the ports - I played those games already, thanks, and the ports aren't anything more than whitewashing over the GC releases which were already showing their age even on that platform.

So my Wii-RE-fan emotional state remains at 'mildly depressed'. Will Capcom ever listen to what Wii RE fans actually want? (And what they bought in droves with RE4 Wii?) Do we have anything to look forward to in future... or will there just be an Umbrella Chronicles 3? At this stage, I'm willing to assume the latter.

This is terrible news. These ports are no better than just buying the GC game and playing them on your Wii with a GC controller. The controls do nothing. There are gameplay vids on youtube and they show nothing new. This really is nothing but a ploy. Don't buy these games for $30 when you can get the same exact experience from buying the GC games for less.

CRAPCOM is being super lazy with the Wii. They don't want to develop RE on it and they are proving it again and again. Devote some man hours to something people actually want like RE2. Everyone should be insulted that in a time where the world economy is hurting, CRAPCOM is trying to swindle money from you.

preach on brother! damn you CRAPCOM! i swear all DEVS should just come together, make a figurine of the PS3 and 360 sitting on a Kings chair and say "this is what we think of the PS3 AND 360 and thus is the reason we always make great games for the two said consoles and not the Wii" because that is exactly the message I'm getting here!

They did. The had a team that developed a great game for Wii. It's called Zack and Wiki. Problem is, when Capcom do make a AA title on the Wii, when they do give it the developers and prodution time... it doesn't sell that well.
And, f those ports sell better than that puzzle adventure... what message does Capcon gets?

@TracerBullet: If Capcom made an original RE game for Wii, do you really think it would sell as (relatively) badly as Zack and Wiki? Do you really think *Capcom* think that?

Buy the time you buy (and find) the GC versions of the game, buy a GC controller and memcard (for those who don't own them) you're just as well off buying a brand new copy of the Wiimake which will probably support classic controllers and 16:9 480p anyway.

@ sam:
Greetings. YOU SAID:
" If Capcom made an original RE game for Wii, do you really think it would sell as (relatively) badly as Zack and Wiki? Do you really think *Capcom* think that?"

No, But they may reason: "we spent some money in Zack and Wiki for Wii, and it sold X. And we made a port of an old game, spending near zero, for the same Wii, and it sold X+10. Guess what we'll do next?"
That's the thinking that I fear. A new RE would sell, but the problem is that the old ones will sell, too. That's the mathematical danger

As a true Resident Evil fan (not one of those people who complain about RE5's controls...), I'm excited for this news.

While I would have prefererd to see something more "original", I'll definitely pick up Darkside Chronicles. I'll probably pass on the other remakes, only because I own them both on Cube and unless there is added content, it won't be worth my while.

The Resident Evil remake for GameCube IMO:AWESOME!
BUY IT, if you don't already have it.
Resident Evil 0 IMO: Great game for $20.
RE2 and 3 ports for GameCube for $29.99-39.99 USED, I dunno.
I bought a used copy of RE2 for Dreamcast perfect condition for $20 last year and it was worth it!
I am not ready to buy RE1 or 0 for the Wii for $30, NOT unless both are designed like RE4 Wii Ed.

You know your Wii can play GC games just fine...

There is a review on IGN of the RE0 Wii edition. I will post some of the highlights for everyone here who is considering paying $30 for it rather than buying it used for GC cheap.

"Resident Evil Zero on Wii looks virtually identical to the GameCube original. This isn't a criticism as such, because the game still appears moderately pretty six years on from its debut, but it does unfortunately mean that there's no 16:9 mode"

"motion controls are completely absent from this production"

"choice of controller options including use of the Classic Controller, the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as a kind of split joypad (just like the RE4: Wii Edition setup, only without the ability to use the Remote as a pointer) and, ironically, the GameCube Controller."

Yes, you can use the GC controller.

"Resident Evil Zero on Wii has nothing to offer. Nothing new, anyway -- no new features, no fan service, no real love. "

"frankly we're happy to support that decision and keep hold of our GameCube copy of this game. "

"There are remakes -- Wii-makes, if you like -- and there are vanilla ports like Resident Evil Zero."

"The question we keep asking is ?Why?? Why even bother to re-release an old game on a new(-ish) format, and at a price not far off from that of a new game, without doing anything to bring it up to speed?"

You can get the GC game for less than $20 on amazon and you don't have to wait for it to come out.
