Sonic Unleashed DLC no longer leashed
Sega's Sonic Unleashed has a new DLC pack available: "Chun-nan Adventure Pack." Weighing in at 528mb, it features 4 new daytime levels, as well as 2 new Werehog locales within a "mountainous region best known for its dragon roads and majestic peaks." The levels actually aren't new to the game, as they were included in the Japanese PS3 release, but all the same will set you back 250
on the Xbox 360. The DLC will supposedly be available for PS3 owners sometime later today, if the self-abuse of already owning this game isn't enough for you.

"The levels actually aren't new to the game, as they were included in the Japanese PS3 release..." if they couldn't possibly be more asinine about this game, they go and charge you for content they already had ready.
I'm done with Sonic games, sorry, Sega, my Genesis weeps for you.
Tiptup300 @ Mar 12th 2009 1:43PM

WINterfang @ Mar 12th 2009 7:31PM
I check some of the boards, this is an actual DLC not an unlock key, it's go some Remix stages and some that are it's own thing.
Snowblind @ Mar 12th 2009 11:40AM
Charging for content that should have already been there is bad enough.. But when the game isn't even any good it's just crazy. Perhaps releasing this for free would convince more people to actually buy the game?
..maybe?
samfish (is ready for MadWorld!) @ Mar 12th 2009 12:11PM
The daytime levels are good. Great even, at points.
But the werehog levels just friggin kill the game.
Zertoss @ Mar 12th 2009 12:20PM
I liked the Werehog levels. :(
The daytime levels really shine though.
AoE @ Mar 12th 2009 1:56PM
Let's be fair dude, the game isn't terrible, especially compared to the past decade of sonic games. Actually about 40% of it is fucking awesome.
Megadanxzero @ Mar 12th 2009 3:49PM
The Japanese version of the game was delayed, and only released at the end of February I think, so it makes sense that they added some stuff. It's not stuff that should have been there in the first place...
Simstim @ Mar 12th 2009 11:52AM
haha self-abuse is the truth, I'm going for the the platiniun trophy and let me tell you it has been one long road of frustration.
Aly Hawana @ Mar 12th 2009 12:20PM
Instant purchase! I thoroughly enjoyed Sonic Unleashed. Even went through the trouble of getting that Platinum Trophy. Hope there'll be more interesting Daytime Stages.
Haohmaru @ Mar 12th 2009 12:23PM
The game would be great if it weren't for the Werehog levels. I rented it from Gamefly out of morbid curiosity, but I'm having a blast with the post-Apotos daytime levels, especially Holoska. This DLC sounds like a ripoff, though.
Xanto @ Mar 12th 2009 12:38PM
I enjoyed this game, I really did. The werehog weren't as bad as people said they were, except for Eggmanland, good lord I wanted to kill myself at that level.
MarkShark @ Mar 12th 2009 12:46PM
This.
TimmiT @ Mar 12th 2009 1:21PM
I doubt this was in the Japanese PS3 release, because today it's released there as DLC as well.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Mar 12th 2009 1:17PM
From what I heard, this game is decent. The Werehog is mediocre but not horrible. I played the demo of the regular Sonic level and honestly I was blown away. I can't wait to pick up this game for $10 off eBay.
Whittico @ Mar 12th 2009 1:22PM
If it's not leashed, is it at least caged?
Deeznuts420 @ Mar 12th 2009 1:27PM
damn you warehog!, wheres my silver bullets
DJcube @ Mar 12th 2009 1:29PM
I enjoyed Sonic Unleashed. Loved the Sonic levels and the Warehog levels were fine.
This DLC is good fun and well-priced.
Also, nothing extra was included in the Japanese release.
Y. Kurokawa @ Mar 12th 2009 1:55PM
I tried to like this game - I really did.
The daytime levels were fantastic. Fast and fluid, a true experience.
Then we have the werehog levels. 30 minutes of button mashing, tightrope walking and cheap deaths. Started to grind my teeth at these - but I kept at it.
Then came the "lets-hit-certain-buttons-to-shoot-down-planes" bit. Wtf? What on heaven and earth were they smoking? You just don't do that! I would rather have a disc read-error to break up the action - at least that's legitimate.
Game went back the same day. Didn't even play long enough to get one achievement. Got Valkyria Chronicles instead. At least Sega didn't break that one.
They can keep their DLC.
I Like Corn @ Mar 12th 2009 2:36PM
Every time I see something like the "Self-Abuse" comment, I wonder if the person actually played the game.
Sonic Unleashed had FANTASTIC daytime levels that should please anyone who actually enjoys the original Sonic games. The night levels were never given a chance from negative hype beforehand, but they were actually fairly decent. Yeah, I'd just prefer a game of just more daytime levels, but the Werehog levels didn't actually RUIN the game at all.
Yes, there are terrible current-day Sonic games. This isn't one of them. Sonic games are improving. Rush, Secret Rings, and Unleashed are actually fun and in-tune with the Sonic tradition. I'm happy with them.
Insight @ Mar 12th 2009 6:32PM
The werehog levels were indeed awful - what I'm seeing here is your inability to acknowledge that others may have had a different experience with it.
I want to put this 'nobody ever gave them a chance' bullshit to sleep once and for all. This had to be the most hyped Sonic game ever released. People were excited, and this shit sold fast. Perhaps people simply didn't like the fact that they were playing a slowed down clunky Sonic game half of the time?
It didn't ruin the game for me either (then again, it's hard to ruin what I'd give around a 6 or 7 in the first place), but it definitely sucked. In my opinion, of course.
WINterfang @ Mar 12th 2009 7:41PM
Actually Sonic Unleashed started selling horribly, and it wasn't until the reviews die out and the word of mouth started traveling around, plus the arrival of the Demo that SEGA started to see some sales.
The game is good, it won't change your life so if you hate Sonic, you will continue that way.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Mar 12th 2009 2:51PM
I can't...stop...playing...Fallout 3 but yeah I'll check this out, I for one liked this one a lot.
Sonic Team was really close with this one.
Guess_Who @ Mar 12th 2009 3:45PM
"The levels actually aren't new to the game, as they were included in the Japanese PS3 release"
... which is why they're for sale on the Japanese PSN? No, they're all new.
And Unleashed was fun, I don't care what you say. :(
Megadanxzero @ Mar 12th 2009 3:57PM
I really worry about games journalism on the interwebs... Practically everyone who's commented on this post has mentioned how much they enjoyed Sonic Unleashed (I certainly did) so I have to wonder why sites like Joystiq go on about it. The obvious, and probably most likely, answer is that they just haven't played the game. The slightly less likely option is that they simply do it because everyone else does, and they want to fit in, which is kinda sad really...
Anyway, definitely getting this. It's hella cheap for a DLC pack, 4 new Daytime levels is instant win, and the Chun-nan levels were my favourites anyway. Best DLC ever as far as I can tell.
As for it being included in the Japanese version, I can't really say, but I remember the Japanese version being delayed, so it makes sense for there to be extra stuff. The inclusion of the DLC on the Japanese PSN might be a mistake, or maybe things like DLC just get released worldwide anyway, I dunno... I don't really know how you'd be checking the Japanese PSN without being in Japan, but then I don't really know anything about PSN so whatever...
Hannah @ Mar 22nd 2009 10:51PM
Didn't this game get middling reviews? And aren't there a good number of people on here saying the game was halfway-decent?
If so, why is it suddenly the joke of the internet? We get it, Sonic games aren't as good as they used to be. But at least Sonic Unleashed is better than... um, all the Sonic games since and including Sonic Heroes.
DarkeSword @ Mar 12th 2009 6:15PM
I downloaded the SU demo on 360. It's one daytime level. I really like it. I think I'm just going to keep playing that over and over again.
pat1202003 @ Mar 12th 2009 6:32PM
SWEET! I had no idea they were making DLC for this game.
evanpappas_1 @ Mar 12th 2009 6:51PM
a lot of people give this game shit when they haven't even played it. it is actually pretty good.
read my review.

Heck yeah!! this game is fucking awesome.
Thank you SEGA :D.
Spex @ Mar 12th 2009 10:13PM
I've gotta say it's getting really frustrating seeing comments about Unleashed being god awful.
Comments about it being bad? About being half decent? Sure, I can understand that. But left and right I'm seeing game reviewers talk about this game as if it made them want to vomit profusely should they look at the box.
Yet a large majority of people who bought this game were at least fairly satisfied with it. Out of the many crappy, half-assed, bug-filled Sonic games that have been around in recent years, this one was an example of actual effort on Sonic Team's part. True, the Werehog levels were a flop but with better level designs with some clever mechanics they could've been an excellent way to add value to what would've been more of the same old Sonic gameplay otherwise (which might not have been a bad thing at all, but no harm in wanting to expand audiences either).
On a side note though, you don't have to kill every enemy in the Werehog levels you know guys....they go much faster if you dash through the enemies you don't have to kill and only fight when you have to. As a matter of fact the Werehog levels even feel decently paced when playing this way. So really the fault of these levels was being too long and doing a poor job directing the player rather then the Werehog's fighting mechanics themselves. They could've done better with that as well, but it is kind of fun to pull off good, bot-crushing combos.
So no. No this game is not "self-abuse". It's not "atrocious" or "absolutely terrible" or even waste of money. If I didn't know any better, I'd say all the game journalists were out to just troll every Sonic fan around at this point, because they did NOT play this game long, if at all, with reviews like that.
stvn6 @ Mar 17th 2009 5:06AM
A very uncool trend that I find with video game reviewers is that there seems to be one bandwagon that they all love to jump onto. I don't get it. I bought this game for the ps3, taking the description from Sony and from Sega to heart, and I got exactly what was promised. Sure, the warehog levels slow the gameplay down, but seriously, how boring would an ENTIRE game of the speedy day levels be? I like the way it's broken up. Everyone would bash Sega either way. Despite what everyone seems to be posting around the net, the game is selling well...and that says something about it. And don't give me the, "E.T. for the Atari 2600 sold well," because those of us that bought that game back then actually read the manual to learn to play it-- and loved it.....I hate the typical video game people....snobby teenagers with too much time, and not enough courage to explore things for themselves without taking to heart somebody else's opinion....
Rising_Phoenix18 @ May 17th 2009 3:46PM
Wow Your all so shallow minded, think about it this way if sega had steyed with the old sonic where all you do is move left and right and jump then they would lose sales as they are not progressing with the 3rd gen systems, Sonic Unleashed was a brilliant game especially after the secret rings which was apauling so they needed redemption and Unleashed did this and did it hard, The werehog levels were great but granted the day levels were mind blowing, would recommend the game too anyone, just take it as a game of its own and you will appreiciate it more.
times change and so do games as consoles do. Would you buy a PS3/XBOX360 game were all you do is move left and right, i dont think so.
