Sony: Blu-ray will always be part of PS3

Last month, Janco analyst Mike Hickey predicted a PS3 price drop, driven by a new, cheaper model without a Blu-ray drive. In a statement to Silicon Alley Insider, Sony's Kim Nguyen took on the new hardware rumor, basically killing it for anyone who believes Sony PR: "That would pretty much destroy the PS3's backbone, our games were built on Blu-ray." Nguyen then said the fairly clear, "Quote that: Blu-ray will always be part of PS3." While a cheaper PS3 may be nice, we really don't think Sony would want to harm its movie business by taking the Blu-ray capability out of its best-known Blu-ray player.

Sony also denied the price drop in general, as well as an annual fee for an online gaming service. "Online gaming is like a First Amendment right," Sony's Susan Panico said.

I do more research before posting than most of these analysts do in a lifetime. I mean seriously, if this is your job, shouldn't you at least make an attempt to do some sort of research on the topic you're giving your thoughts on. It's like this guy isn't even trying. At this rate, we might as well just call a psychic hotline for all gaming predictions, I'm sure even Miss Cleo would have said something less stupid.

Taking Blu-Ray out of the PS3 makes no sense at all. What a bogus rumor!

Wow, what a retarded thing for an analyst to say. Analysts already say retarded things but this takes the cake. A Blu-ray less PS3 would be the nail in the PS3 coffin. That would mean that EVERY game thus far released for PS3 wouldnt be playable on the BD less PS3, because they are ON BD ROM. Seriously, you dont even have to be smart to know that.

Hm. Susan Panico has a very poor understanding of the First Amendment. At no point does it even allude to the possibility that someone must or should provide a service free of charge, nor is it even in any way analogous. Free services are always nice, but are not a right.
