PlayStation Canada has decided to pull about 300 bus shelter Killzone 2 ads throughout the Greater Toronto Area ahead of schedule following a string of complaints by parents regarding the violent imagery. Davis Mirza, a 4/5 grade teacher, contacted Sony Canada when he noticed one such ad on display at a bus shelter near his Scarborough school.
Mirza told The Toronto Star that ads of such a violent nature do not "help promote any kind of community renewal or even responsibility." Kyle Moffatt, public relations specialist for Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, said the entire bus shelter campaign would be pulled, telling Joystiq the campaign was set to expire soon but the company has decided to "speed up the process."
Moffatt told The Star, PlayStation would establish an off-limits radius around schools for any future, related promotional material. As for the trip to and from school, maybe parents should invest in blindfolds to shield their children from violent images of glowing orange eyes ... we eagerly await Killzone 2 branded innocence protectors.
Update: Kyle Moffatt's position is public relations specialist at Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, not Sony Canada as originally listed.

If the image in question is what everyone is saying it is (the Helghast helmet with glowing eyes) then this is absolutely fucking ridiculous. I long for the day when a company will finally stand up to people who make complaints such as these and say "come on now, grow up".

The game is rated M by the ESRB. As such, they ought not advertise to minors. Just like they ought not put up posters for R rated films near schools (or whatever zany ratings classification they use in Ontario, here in Alberta I think it's 18A that is comparable to an R rating). Or adverts for vodka, cigarettes, and night clubs.
Granted, these things exist in the real world, but parents shouldn't have to explain the situations that are typically portrayed in adverts geared toward adults.
And come on, how many kids in Grade 4 do you know that have a PS3 and play FPS's? It's not like Sony is going to go under because these kids aren't dropping hundreds of dollars on games anyway.

They aren't advertising to minors, the posters are on bus stops, not schoolbus stops.

dang, at least Toronto HAD KZ2 bus adds... we didn't have squat here in Ottawa. An atheist group had THEIR adds taken down! What happened to freedom of opinion and expression?! We're being oppressed by the bus companies!
But really, people need to pull the cactus out of their ass and stop being such babies. It's a damn video game, you poor muffins.

Ads are still up in Montreal. Helghast mask with red eyes, and Killzone 2 with the 5/5 score under it. That's mostly it.
Maybe it's the "Kill" part of "Killzone" that makes the lady uncomfortable...
They had Gears of "War" commercials on TV, nobody's pulled them. Something's wrong here.

Has anyone considered that the imagery and what not of the poster isn't what the teacher finds offensive, and that perhaps having a bunch of signs up that say "killzone" in an area that is plagued by violent crime (according t the canadians posting, I wouldn't know)?
Perhaps this person doesn't even know about the game, but thinks the posters make it look like they are advertising that you are in fact in a designated "killzone"?

Oooooooo
Hide in the bunkers, turn on the air raid alarm.
People with yellow eyes are on the billboards.
Parents need to stop sheltering their children 120% from violence and injury.
Why?
So they would grow up to be people with a good mental and physical immune system to life's ups and downs, that's why!!!!!
Not saying to let them watch porn and beat them daily, but what people do in North America and Great Britain is just ridiculous and outrageous.
In fact, these people should be locked up!
Your child never even falls off a bicycle because you seen in TV that it's dangerous? Never plays in a sandbox because he might pick up germs? (Which you also only heard in TV.) If I'll ever have kids, I'll make sure not to let them anywhere near these mental maniacs.
