Unsurprisingly, Capcom's recently announced "Versus" DLC for Resident Evil 5 is raising quite a stink from players who are convinced they're being nickeled-and-dimed, paying for content that should have been included in the game in the first place. Capcom recently braved the slings and arrows of their incensed fanbase to defend the five-dollar update -- they claim that the price covers development of the new features which go "above and beyond the initial scope" of the game, as well as bandwidth costs associated with implementing additional online multiplayer offerings.
Capcom explained the "Versus" pack, which will bring four-player co-op and competitive online modes to the game within "a few weeks," isn't just an unlock patch for content already included on the RE5 disc -- despite the fact that it's composed entirely of assets from the core game. How about it, gang? Have you come down from your blinding, Majini-esque rage?

Sure, but that really works both ways. You could claim that DLC allows them to add these things later when they wouldn't have otherwise existed, but I could say that the fact that DLC is now easy to deliver is what is allowing them to conduct these rip-offs.
Also, you completely failed to address the fact that the SFIV comstumes are on the retail disc. I really don't think you can defend that in any way. And the fact that RE5 MP DLC contains no new assets really isn't much better.

But that's the point. If you consider it a rip-off, then don't buy it and you'd be no worse off than if it never existed in the first place, which in most cases it wouldn't have if DLC didn't exist anyway. So for you, who thinks it's a rip-off, it's exactly the same as if DLC didn't exist because you probably wouldn't have gotten it either way. But for someone else, who thinks it's worth it, they now have the option to get something they otherwise wouldn't have. Again, you're no worse off, and some people are extra happy. The stage of disagreement is with the "you're no worse off" statement because many people seem to be assuming that if DLC didn't exist, these things still would have and would have been given away for free from the get-go. I think in most cases, that is untrue.
As far as the SF4 costumes go, just because they're on the retail disc doesn't mean they would've put in the extra effort to make them without the knowledge that they were going to eventually be selling them for money. Like I said, they've had like 100 street fighter games to add true alternate costumes and they never have until now, seems like an odd coincidence, no? It's the same with the SC4 characters. They were just an unlock code on the disc, but they were put there soley because they could charge to unlock them. If they couldn't have charged to unlock them, then they probably wouldn't have been put there in the first place, just as prior console exclusive Soul Calibur characters weren't.

Ah screw me sideways on the kitchen counter.
It's BS and you want to know why?
I bought the freaking $99 Collectors Edition ... why?
Because I'm an idiot and I'm melt whenever I see Redfield's steroid pumped biceps ...
I also wanted an African pendant.
So screw you capcom, I will NOT spend an addition $5 to the $100 that I've already spent!

Crap. Don't buy this. So what is the average cost per game after all the add-ons that are released? $80-100??? Costumes do not cost $1 each to make (SF4). The costs to make this vs mode are negligible. Do they create a whole new engine? No. What shifty guys. And Mega Man 9?!?!? How much was that old ass NES game after all those stupid modes you buy??? $20? For an 8-bit game? What chumps who pay for that. Leave it to morons to ruin it for the rest of the unslavish people.

Wow, I was gonna buy this this weekend. Now I won't. I will see what other DLC comes out then I will just wait for it to hit $30 and THEN get the DLC. By that time I will have spent less than the $60 I would've shelled out. THANKS CAPCOM for making me come to my senses and waiting! GREAT job!

And why haven't they responded to PR about Costume packs in Street Fighter 4?
Costume Packs aren't going "above and beyond" the initial scope of the game, seeing as the costumes are ALREADY ON THE DISC!

You know, i'm not really pissed about paying 5$ for extra content.... but here is the problem I see with this case.
The game was JUST released and you're already announcing this kind of stuff? That leads me to believe that this content has already been added to the game and you're just gonna give a DL that fixes all the current bugs it has.
Doesn't seem fair really. If I owned a CE of RE5 I would be really pissed right now.

I dont plan on getting this game anyway. IMO, Capcom hasnt really been interested in PS3 consumers so as long as I only have a PS3, i will be not be purchasing anything from Capcom. Everybody else who owns the game, i hope you enjoy it.
P.S. I do however love the red 360. I love almost more than the black. I would in fact buy it but theres nothing from me that justifies a $400 purchase right now. Pity!

I hope CAPCOM burns for this. This is truly outrageous and I for one will never buy another CAPCOM product ever again unless they publicly apologize for this scandal and correct it. It's not like this is the first transgression either, Dead Rising text problems unfixed, Street Fighter IV costumes must be paid for even though they're on the disc and in the arcade versions, Mega Man 9 difficulty settings must be paid for on top of full asking price etc. Speak with your wallets people, it's the only way they'll listen.

Seriously I'm honestly surprised no one has filed a lawsuit for the Street Fighter 4 costumes yet, they were ALREADY ON THE DISC and you paid $60 for them to be on that disc. Now they want to charge another $20 for them, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE ALREADY THERE. I mean seriously, there's no way this crap is legal.

Well let me start off by saying that i WILL be buying this DLC. Not because i agree with the circumstances surrounding the "development" of said multiplayer, but because of the sheer fact that i have played every RE game to date (including the terrible rail-shooters) and i show great support for a game that has submerged me into a realm of Zombies, shadowy companies, and half-infected heroes/villains. No i do not feel that i should have to pay for content that could have been included on the disc, and provided it is already there, just hidden under a pile of unlock codes, i will be even more upset. However in the long run, we as the gamers do not dictate what we will and will not have to pay for. It all comes down to what the programmers feel they are entitled to. What the artists feel they deserve for their art. If we arent satisfied with the work of art presented to us, we simply do not pay for it. Im not excusing Caapcoms remarks, i believe that what they are saying is just a cheap cop-out, but i also didn't work on the game, and for all i know what they are saying could very well be true. we as gamers should not try to revolt against the creators. most of you are choosing sticks and stones over commlon sense anyway. it doesnt matter how much you paid for the game. If they were really intent on us spending an extra 5 bucks on the DLC, then why not just jack the price of the game up by 5 dollars. I am so frustrated with all the whining and moaning that alot of people posting are saying. If you think that 5 dollars for an online versus mode/co-op Merc. mode is too much, then maybe you should sit down and design your own version of RE5 versus, and you can charge what you think is a necessary price. BTW anyone who gets that up and running please let me know, i'd love to see YOUR finished product............

At first I thought DLC contents great. Adding new features, boosting the pleasure to play the game. But it seems that these days, most of the publishers are trying to suck every penny with that. TRY MAKE PROFIT WITH CONSCIENCE AND GOOD SENSE! We apreciate that.
