The accidental release of F.E.A.R. 2 DLC on Xbox Live Marketplace caused some confusion -- especially after it was suddenly pulled hours after release. The "Toy Soldiers" DLC was, according to Monolith Productions, meant to release in April and best of all, was always meant to be free on both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
As you can tell from the screenshots, the "Toy Soldiers" pack places players from a rather unique perspective. Shrunken down to miniature proporations, where players will duke it out in a pinball machine, hospital room, and playground.

Love how this announcement flies directly in the face of Capcom's defense of paying for dlc that probably should have been in the game to begin with.

this really doesn't seem like something that was essential to the main game

Anybody have this game? it looks intriguing but then again I haven't played the 1st one at all. Sounds like it's pretty similar to Condemned? Wanted to try that out as well.
Haven't really found a good shooter to enjoy since I finished the Darkness, which rules, and am looking for another good one. Have Halo 3 but that's kind of a real snoozer for me.

I found both FEAR and FEAR 2 really enjoyable. The laptop recordings and answering machines made the first game really enjoyable to play, but some of the design choices (draining/regenerating flashlight, useless armor, etc) brought it down a little. Also, the fact that the scares happen whether or not you're looking in the direction of the scare make it so that you can potentially miss a lot. I missed a least half of the scares on my first playthrough because I wasn't facing in the right direction.
FEAR 2 was at least 4 times more enjoyable than the original, I'd say... I you have some cash lying around, pick up the first FEAR for like, 15 dollars or so. :x

FEAR is a shooter. Lots and lots of shooting. It has creepy parts to it and a creepy storyline, but it differs from Condemned in that it's purely a FPS and Condemned is a first person brawler with the occasional gun. Very different games, but very awesome. I nightly reccomend you find the demo for the first FEAR for your PC to see if it will run playably, and get the first one... First. The demo of the second game gave me the impression that they are trying too hard to scare you, while I think they got it just right in the first game.

The first FEAR is def worth a pickup at the $15 it is going for. It has its repetitive parts, but the last 1/3 of the game makes up for it imo. I haven't picked up FEAR 2, but will when I am done with Condemned 2 and FEAR 2 is at $30.

if you're looking for a scary shooter FEAR 1 is good, if you're looking for a shooter with some scary bits, that's FEAR 2. FEAR 2 really wasnt scary at all compared to the first one, which itself was just a lot of BOO! moments and the occasional "Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! what's there?" sorta thing. I didn't really care for the actual shooting however. They had intractable cover, but you couldn't really take cover. My enjoyment of that type of play is more dependent on the way regular FPS' feel archaic to me when they dont have a RSV style cover system, but most people will probably enjoy it

That game is so badass, some guys said is pretty much F.E.A.R 1 with better graphics but you know what F.E.A.R 1 was teh pwnzord and with better graphics is even better.
They got the right idea they just need long hair and Segway because Fear 2 kicks ass.

I'm hoping that since the 95% of people here are console gamers, Joystiq just didn't mention it.
If its true, then its quite sad how Monolith and other developers are moving from being PC developers to console developers and actually shafting PC gamers in the process. Aw, maybe I shouldn't have built my PC after all. : (

I enjoyed playing FEAR 2's single player campaign more so than i did playing through killzone 2's.
However FEAR 2 is absolutely horrible on-line, and we all know killzones is incredibly fun.
if you got cash and like playing single player games, FEAR 2 won't let you down, 'specially alone.. in the dark.. with headphones on =)

FEAR 2 multiplayer isn't bad. I'm liking it more as time passes and can forgive all the usual problems that plague new online shooters: latency issues, weapon balance, grenade spamming, etc..
Anyone on the fence should give it look. The single-player is excellent and worth a replay. The multiplayer won't rock your world, but it's still fun.

This content looks as great as it is funny, but that's my opinion. I sure hope it is free when its release... even though I don't even have the game... yet.
