I had an extremely hard time finding enjoyment in this game from the trial PC version. All you did was point and click....point and click. No substance or skill to it at all. Casual games are just not for me I guess, cause I require some form of depth to my games.

"No substance or skill to it at all."

In addition to disagreeing with the OP, I disagree completely with this as well. There is a large degree of luck involved, but there IS most definitely skill. Numerous times I've found myself with, for example, 7 orange pegs and 2 or 3 balls left near the end of a round and managed to save myself with some well placed shots. I think playing the new XBLA live version online would quickly reveal the fallacy of your statement.

Some people would argue it takes skill to walk down the street without falling. I tend to choose not to waste my time arguing with them. It takes 0 skill to play peggle, end of discussion.

In a similar strain you might argue that Monopoly or the game Sorry are not games because it is mostly based on the luck of the roll of a die. I would like to argue though that in the game of Peggle and much like in the game of Monopoly, when a round is close to its end and most of the Pegs are destroyed/ most of the property is owned the game takes on another level of difficulty that doesn't just require mere luck but a certain finesse and skill. Just my two cents, carry on.

Its not a game because its just point and click? What do you think Killzone 2 is? its point and shoot. Its the exact same in a different style. You cant argue that killzone is not a game.

Peggle is point, click and the game does everything else for you. Killzone, you have to aim, shoot, duck, cover, manage ammo, survey your surroundings etc.

Come on, that was a really poor comparison. You're all just refusing to acknowledge what you all know is true and it's slightly annoying.

Tmac, you can boil down ANY game to luck on some level. Even Killzone. Are you lucky enough to be playing against the xx% of people who aren't as good as you this round? Are you lucky enough to not be playing with an utter noob who wrecks your pacing, timing, etc. etc.?

Where skill comes into play is in mitigating the damage that a run of bad luck can do to you. In Killzone, it's by being prepared for dealing with a superior enemy or a lesser irritant. In poker, it's in knowing enough about human psychology and probability to make good betting decisions, to prevent yourself from getting suckered by your opponents. In Peggle, it's about knowing what bonuses are available to grant extra balls, as well as knowing enough basic physics to predict ricochets and rebounds.

I honestly don't care whether or not you want to play Peggle; your opinion is not my concern. I just want to correct your egregious mistake in the thought that luck can be completely eliminated from EVERY game, and that any game which deals with an element of chance is somehow "inferior".

definition aside...

Sure u could just point and click, but u can actually calculate the angle and timing of when to shoot, and calculate how u want the ball to ricochet. Just like in Killzone, u dont have to use the duck and cover tactics and just run and gun like a maniac, though that wont work too well. The way you play peggle doesn't make it any less of a game.

"Casual games are just not for me I guess, cause I require some form of depth to my games."

I know you're trying to be cool and edgy, and insult the genre of causal games, but all you're really doing is describing the reason they're so easy to play.
The whole point of a casual game is to pick it up and play for a few minutes, and if you have to quit in the middle, you're not losing any progress. Saying casual games are shallow is like saying Gears of War is violent.

I think this sums it fairly well. You could play Peggle by just aiming in general directions and relying on luck to complete level just like you could not use any sortof cover or strategy in KZ2 and just hope run-n-gun gets you to the next check point. Those two ARE THE SAME.

OR you could calculate angles of deflection, take time lining up shots to hit the most orange pegs, use your green power pegs wisely, and time your shots so that they have a greater possibility of falling in the ball bucket... Just like in KZ2 you could use cover, time your shots, make wise use of grenades, and use strategy to better your chances of taking down a group of enemies. Those two ARE THE SAME.

You are without a doubt 100% WRONG, tmac. This has nothing to do with you not liking casual games... that's not the issue. But to say there is zero skill in Peggle is flat out absurd. You could play it that way if you wanted, but then you could play ANY game that way.

I tried the XBLA version and the stick was not half as responsive as the mouse on the PC (duh, right?). I love Peggle but could not stand to play on the controller for more than 3 minutes. Luckily, I just downloaded the demo and didn't pay for the full version...

I only played it for a minute, is there no way to change the sensitivity?
I know they do that so you have finer accuracy (with the addition of holding a trigger for super-fine control), but it does get kind of annoying when you have to aim on the other side of the board.

I did like the changes they made to the interface, it's much nicer now.

This is one of those games I'm going to avoid buying because I sometimes have things to do and if I have Peggle with me at every moment of the day, I'll never do any of it. But one day I'll see it for cheap (because it's already cheap) and impulse buy it and my life will be ruined.

There is no hope.

"Really, the only thing that could make Peggle any better is if you could play it anywhere, during any spare time you find."

Well, there is a version for cell phones (no, not the iPhone version). It's almost a perfect port of the PC Peggle Deluxe, and was $7. It's very good.

Then again, you can't have too much Peggle.

"the simple addition of portability makes it so much more playable in the kind of short sessions for which it is meant."
Maybe, but I know that each time that I start playing it, I easily spend more than half an hour with it. It is very addictive.

Only problem I had with this, and some will say it's minor but for a game that's largely based on feel and feedback I thought it was a big deal, was that when the ball slows down for the last hit, at the end of a board, it registers the hit well before the ball actually strikes the last peg. It definitely didn't work that way on PC, and this bug detracted from the feel on DS I thought. Still a decent portable implementation.

So i got peggle deluxe on steam for a dollar during that huge sale back in december. Is peggle nights seperate from that? Also, peggle rules. If i can get every peggle level + extras for my ds, thats awesome because i only spent a dollar on this franchise so far and its sweet enough to buy a portable version.
