Electronic Arts is totally serious about including ill-tempered tennis legend John McEnroe in EA Sports' upcoming Wii release, Grand Slam Tennis. According to EA, McEnroe will be just one of several "all-time greats" in the upcoming title, which is expected to take to the court on June 16.
Hopefully EA will package more than just McEnroe's likeness with the game. We can't think of a better use of the promised MotionPlus support than mirroring his juvenile antics on screen as we toss our Wii remote aside in disgust when calls don't go our way.

To be honest I wish this were also coming to the PS3. I think I'm going to get it on the Wii anyway and hope the controls transfer over well to the Wii mote.

Don't think I've heard anybody say golf was their favorite of those. Tennis was my favorite, but it was also incredibly shallow, so the controls sufficed. I'd be a bit concerned on the Wii as to whether the controls would end up that good. It would seem to make sense, but who knows how it'll end up. Last tennis game I really ever played a lot and enjoyed was Mario Tennis, so you can tell I'm not huge into the sport.
The way McEnroe looks in this screenshot though is AWESOME! If they did a NBA Jam'ish tennis I'd be into that :P

Who wants to bet all those "broken TVs caused by flying wiimotes" were all done by John McEnroe?

Well... I really like the look of this game. The game looks way better in motion than in the pics, kinda like Team Fortress art style.
I think that developers should need to work with that kind of graphics when it comes to develop for the Wii, but without removing other features. That way the graphics will look nice and clean. Just like the Shaun White Wii version.

Good video. I'm not even a huge tennis fan, but it's good to see EA playing on the strengths of the Wii and not caring about whether every single facial pore has the right amount of sweat coming out of it. Stylising the game in a similar way i guess, like you said, to Team Fortress 2, makes the game look very good. I might pick this one up, but still not a fan of tennis.

Fernando,
I agree with you 100%. These graphics look great and are perfect for the Wii.

I know I know, back 2 back Post FTL! But this doesnt really have anything to do with my previous comment so fuck it:
It turns out that GST comes out about a week before Wimbledon whereas Tiger Woods comes out 2 days before the US Open. Thats basically free marketing for EA. Tiger will probably trounce last years sales, and GST will beat out Virtua Tennis and even the unstoppable (except when it comes to gameplay) NPC! Mario Power Tennis.

I'm really looking forward to this game, I hope they put a lot of work into the controls. I'm glad they placed so much emphasis on all the tennis legends, the newer stars have no charisma at all. McEnroe, Becker, Borg...how cool is that?
