Batman: Arkham Asylum's collector's edition could be a bittersweet proposition, if a GameStop listing is any indication. Bitter in its ridiculous $100 price of admission, sweet in the fact that it includes a 12" batarang. Sure, there are other items in this supposed collector's edition version of the game, such as a DC custom encyclopedia, DLC Pack 1, soundtrack, and behind-the-scenes DVD, but all of that pales in comparison to being able to literally fight crime. Just rent a costume from your local shop, paint your car black, and you, dear friend, are a superhero. Then it's only a matter of finding Falcone ...

yeah, but they missed a perfect opportunity to use the shot from Batman & Robin when batman actually pulls out a visa with the name "batman" on it from his "bat belt" and says "don't leave the cave without it".

Well gosh I bet I know one person who will be buying this :P Even sent the tip in and everything.
Dude you've got a spider sense for batman, if that makes any sense... Still haven't ever bought a CE/LE before, but was tempted back when there was a good online deal for Fallout 3. Too bad I'd already purchased the regular version!

Yeah but Halo 3 came out with a new helmet for my cat... Overall it was cheaper than going out and buying a standalone cat helmet, and a copy of the game separately.

I started to buy that blasted thing from Circuit City 3 weeks ago for like $40. But I just couldnt stand the fact I would have a cat hat and no cat to put it on.

OMG my inner batfan really wants that batarang. And if the game is good it would be cool to have the soundtrack and dlc pack. I'm sadly contemplating getting this CE.

Well that makes sense since I already paid for it.

no I don't, I am armed only with my superior detective skills, batarangs and my fists. Well, there's also the car, the tank, the jet, the boat, the helicopter, the robot t-rex, and the billion dollar corporation. But mostly fists

The game's not out until what, June, with the Collector's Edition arrriving at the same time, and the DLC pack 1 will come with it ? What effing garbage.
As long as you sheep keep enabling the developers to rape our wallets by charging for things that should already be included from Day 1, they will.

Don't you mean "pales in comparison"? What you said roughly translates "buckets in comparison".
Now on to the actual meat of the write-up.... I WANT THE BATARANG!!

The real question for me is if its a foot long...does it work like a real boomerang? If that sucker is fully functional I'm on that for $100!

this was going to happen eventually, where a publisher seeks to test the customer's breaking point as to how much they're willing to pay for a CE.
if the game itself is great (not good, but great) than they can make a CE and charge/include whatever they want. if the game is merely average or bad, then producing a CE becomes pointless, lest they forget why we buy games in the first place.
however, the fact that this is an entirely new game (ie: not a sequel in an ESTABLISHED, SUCCESSFUL franchise) from a developer with virtually zero credibility suggests that this CE is nothing short of an attempt to snare naïve gamers, dazzled by pretty screenshots and the Batman franchise.
buyer beware.

Or pick it up used a week after it ships. Or better yet, rent it.
