Update: Looks like this rumor was debunked. The Blu-ray.com thread has been closed.
A rumor from Blu-ray.com alludes that Sirius XM satellite radio might be exclusively working with Sony to bring the paid service to PSN. According to the insider -- who has allegedly seen business plans of the joint venture -- Sirius XM will be selling monthly, genre-specific subscription packs for $2.49 on the PlayStation Store.
There's only one problem with this whole set up: How is the PS3 going to receive the radio signal? Last we checked, the PS3 doesn't have a satellite receiver. Internet streaming via a firmware update, perhaps? For now, take this one with a grain of salt -- a Sirius-ly large grain of salt.
[Thanks, superdynamite!]

SIRIUS XM also is available through an Internet feed. The service is available to be heard on its portable unit, the Stiletto, because it intercepts WI-FI signals to produce a streamlined listening experience.
The PS3 presumably would use the Internet as its way of broadcasting to users.

Likely web streaming service. Neat idea if true.

You guy do know that Sirius satelitte radio also provides an online streaming version? Their competitor XM does the same. Yes, XM is a different company, it's not Sirius XM radio...

Not two separate companies actually...
At one point, yes, but not anymore.

Would make sense since PSP has internet radio...only inevitable for PS3 to get it, but if it's in the form of something like Serius then that is cool!

It would definitely be via internet streaming.
As an already subscribing customer, if they threw that in as an added feature I'd listen all the time. As of March 11th, listeners to SiriusXM Radio are required to pay extra for internet streaming (unless you buy a a large block of time at once) so I would hope PS3 streaming could be included in that.

I just LOVE it when people comment about things they have no knowledge of.
For example, people here claiming that sirius and XM are two companies still. It's been a while now that the two have been joined....
So I will now try to trump them in idiotic postings! Here we go:
"RADIO is only available in cars and on boom-boxes, maybe some of them fancy walk-mens sony is coming out with will let you get radio also. But I aint never heard of no inner netting that can get my local Country station on its!"

...u also need tversity. I admit its a hassle but after setup its seamless. But i hope they dont make us pay extra if we already pay for online listening.

How? Easy. Same way they do it on my cellphone. The carrier pulls down the signal (or gets it direct from the pre-sat source) and feeds it to the cell phone. In the PS3's case, just send it over the internet... How else did you think they would do it?
Posted: Mar 16th 2009 1:23PM (Unverified) said
it would be cool if they had in game sirius....
