Monday's aren't just for loathing, with the Wii receiving one new WiiWare and one new Virtual Console game today. So, while you may he miserable at the office or in the classroom, you have new gaming goodness awaiting you at home. Here's what's on offer:
WiiWare
Bit.Trip: Beat (Aksys Games, 1-4 players, 600 Wii Points): Developed by Gaijin Games, this title is like a combination of Pong and the craziest rave party you've ever been to. Don't believe us? The proof is in the video pudding, friends!
Virtual Console
Summer Games II (C64, 1-8 players, 500 Wii Points): Featuring 18 different competing countries and 8 different sports - cycling, equestrian, fencing, high jump, javelin, kayaking, rowing and triple jump - this C64 title brings all of the drama of the Olympics right into your living room. Or your bedroom. Depends on where you have your Wii set up, really.

on multiple sites I have yet to see 1 person go " OH YES! Summer games 2! The 1 game I was waiting for."
ugh nintendo. ugh.
and don't get me started on this 1 ww game 1 vc game crap either.
my only hope is that they are temporarily doing this so it will take attention away from the storage problem - see below for my pseudo flow chart
less games available > less games to download> less space to use up > less people noticing they are filling up their hdd > less bitching

I like the music and the concept and the retro look of Bit.Trip: Beat. However it doesn't look, well, fun. So...6 bucks for 5 minutes of retro before I get bored and look for something that's actually fun to play? Sorry, no.
As for Summer Games, I grew up on that kind of game. Funny thing about these old games. Turns out, they all sucked. Why didn't we notice at the time?

It's pretty fun, but there's a bit of a tendency to sort of let everything slide by at points (then you lose)... And some of the patterns are pretty crazy, I suspect you can't really be expected to get them until you memorise it.
The game design is really clever though, I like the way the graphics get worse as you fail, until eventually it literally turns into Pong graphics; black and white, and you lose *all* the music except 'beep' from the Wii remote speaker. The really clever thing about this is that being white on black makes it extremely clear what's happening, so that gives you a better chance to claw your way back.
I've completed the first level (twice). Failed second level. There are three [long] levels. Seems like it'll definitely be worth $6.

Hrm, I'm excited about Summer Games II, but I don't want to get burned like I was with Ogre Battle, when I was thinking of how awesome Tactics Ogre was, and then bought something entirely different.
Though, after looking at a list of the events, I'd have to say I'd prefer Summer Games over the sequel, or Winter Games.

Electroplankton + Rez + Pong = Insta-buy. Hard to go wrong for $6.
On a completely unrelated note, that video really makes me long for interactive music in games not specifically about interacting with music. What is it with these last two generations and their focus on live orchestra recordings? Closest you can get anymore is The Maw and DeBlob, everything else is "strategically placed" cinematic mumbo jumbo. That is all.

Mushroom Men has this weird "Metronome system" thing, which causes scripted events (and possibly enemies, I haven't actually played it yet) to sync with the music and actually add layers to it.

I dl'ed Bit.Trip Beat, and I was just blown away. So awesome. Probably my favorite Wii game (Wiiware or otherwise). Can't recommend it enough.
