You'd better pack a lunch before getting on board Dead Space Extraction's rails. According Steve Papoutsis, the executive producer on the project, the upcoming adventure will last "about as long" as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 original.
Dead Space filled roughly ten hours or so of our time last October, a period split crying for mommy and backtracking through the USG Ishimura's haunted hulk. Regardless, if accurate, this would make Extraction quite long for an on-rails shooter, though we wonder if Papoutsis' estimate took into account time spent nursing our wrists after all that twisting.

Cool a long on-rails shooter. I might have to check this out

Nintendo and their promises. I don't care if it is as long as the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Is it a good game? What is the point playing a bunch of garbage for 10 hours?

EA Redshores is developing this game, not Nintendo. Nor is Nintendo publishing it.
What's the point of saying a game you've never played is garbage?

And what's the point of blaming Nintendo for games they're not making?

...wha?
Nintendo doesn't have anything to do with this project, it's EA Redwood and Eurocom (which only gives me a sliver of hope because they made 007 Nightfire, but what doesn't give me hope is that besides that game every other game in the last 10 years has been a licensed one, and you know how they have turned out)

Nintendo's track record with third party games is very rocky. Games made by third party companies usually either flop or barely make the grade. And I am sick and tired of everyone saying that nothing is Nintendo's fault. Of course it is their fault. It is their fault for accepting mediocre games. It is their fault for relying on gimmicks and mostly useless peripherals instead of concentrating on better game play. It is their fault for making an extremely limited system and making tiresome mini-games. Everyone including Nintendo is just full of excuses. It's the developers' fault, it's the public's fault, it's the gamers fault, it's the economy's fault. The PS2 was a second generation console and made games with moving shadows, giant monsters, multiple enemies and beautiful environments. When you pushed the PS2 to its limit you got God of War, Odin Sphere and Final Fantasy XII. In fact PS2 has games that got higher scores then so many things that the Wii has. In short the Wii can't even out shine a dying second generation system.

Thanks TwEE but being whited out has nothing to do with not making sense. It's me saying things that people don't want to hear that gets you in trouble. I refuse to say nice things about Nintendo just because Nintendo fan boys don't like what i say. The PS2 earned its right to be a legendary system. Nintendo used to be a great developer of games and hardware but now instead has become the biggest con in the history of gaming preying on people's ignorance and acceptance of the mediocre. I was glad to hear that Madworld was a good game hoping that Nintendo had finally wised up and gotten better games, until I heard that it was only 4-5 hours long. I mean seriously couldn't they have made it longer so I could enjoy it more. I mean God of War was just as bloody and visceral and it was so much longer and engaging then Madworld. Is it really that hard for Nintendo or developers of Nintendo games to put a little spit and polish on their games before just throwing at you half-@$$ed. That's all I ask. I mean seriously if you were given a choice between a PS3 or an Xbox 360 and a Wii or asked to give up your PS3 or Xbox 360 in exchange for a Wii, could you honestly say with a straight face that you would really choose the Wii looking at the choice of games they have?

I'm still thoroughly pissed off with the influx of lightgun games recently, especially when everyone expected TPS or TPH games instead. First this, then Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. And the bastards at Capcom had the audacity to tell us we would be very happy with it!
About a year ago, when everyone said 'oh no, not another lightgun game!' it was unfounded trolling, but now it's pissed me off that it is a very much warranted statement.
Oh well, bring on The Conduit, Murumasa, Monster Hunter (which I may well end up paying per month for, despite my bitching) and MadWorld (3 more days!)

@tiamat: If you want to blame anyone, blame the public. If they didn't buy the games, people wouldn't make them. It's really that simple, and has nothing to do with Nintendo.
So what if its another rails game? How about you actually play the game first so your opinions have some basis to them?
Using that logic, if I didn't like Quake, I shouldn't even bother playing Unreal, Halo, Gears, Conduit, they're all shooters so they all suck. See how ignorant that statement is when applied to another genre?
The irony is, if they ported the game to Wii and it looked and played identical to its 360 or PS3 counterparts, people would still troll it to pieces citing lack of innovation.
I for one welcome our rails overlords. As always I'll rent the game first, but if its good I'll buy it. Graphics aren't everything, gameplay is. Personally I could care less what the game looks like, if its fun I'll play it.

Well, it DOES have a "2" in the name.
In other news, are on-rails shooters different from light gun games? Because if they are, we should all step back and consider the depth that could possibly be added into an on-rails shooter.

I think "on rails" just means you follow a strict pre-determined path. So, almost by default light gun games are on rails. Conversely, all on rails games aren't light gun games. A good exmaple would be Killer 7 on the gamecube.

No jONEz. I am always being misunderstood. Just because one shooter is bad doesn't mean that all shooters are bad. That is not what I said. My problem is Nintendo churns out a lot of bad third party games. I mean their has to be a point where you draw the line. If you hit your hand with a hammer and it hurts it would be kind of stupid to keep hitting your hand over and over with the hammer hoping that at some point you hand will stop feeling the pain. Instead of protesting that Nintendo is handing them crap instead you keep buying the garbage that they churn out claiming that its not that bad. So since you don't complain and accept it they keep doing the same thing over and over again and people keep buying them and the cycle continues. I don't have much hope for the Dead Space game because I have seen the results of their other attempts (Dead is Rising, House of the Dead, Tombraider, Farcry) therefore I try to keep my expectations of Wii games to the minimum.
And finally that is not true. If the Wii could make Dead Space look as good as the PS3 and Xbox 360 we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. People who have the Wii only say graphics don't matter because they have no choice but to accept the limitations that the Wii has. I liked Nintendo games at a point but Nintendo is really messing around and it is really sad to see it become nothing more then a tool to con people who don't know better.

I understand your frustration but I think it's misguided. If you don't like the Wii or Nintendo then don't buy it and play the games. Telling other people that they are idiots and are being conned when they are perfectly happy comes off as extremely arrogant and snobbish. You can say it's out of love or whatever but the truth is it's misguided hate. I used to feel like you but I just accepted the Wii for what it is and played the games I liked. That way I didn't expect the Wii to be a PS3 or 360 and could just be happy to get the games on it that I wanted.
In closing: The Wii is what it is and you either love it or hate it. No need to rant and rave that it's not a PS3 or 360 because it was never intended to be those consoles. The Wii provides games the other consoles can't because of it's feature set, demographic and development costs. PS360 games cost so much to make that developers can't afford to make something outside of what gamers will like because it will fail. Two examples are Mirrors Edge and Valkyria Chronicles. Besides, this has nothing to do with Nintendo. Because of the IR pointer devs are able to make these type of light gun games without extra periphrials.

Like I said i don't hate Nintendo. I felt remorse when I had to give up my N64 for a PS2 but it had to be done. I dislike the Wii as a system. I feel that it is a waste of time and is getting undeserved attention. But that is just my opinion. People start getting ballistic every time someone says anything negative about a Wii game whether it is true or not. I am not stopping anyone from buying the Wii. I am not a spokes person for Sony or Microsoft. People over the years have brought lots of things that I didn't get like pet rocks, tire rims, iron on prints, high shoes, chia pets and gold teeth. Everyone paid good money for these things. The Wii to me is one of those things. People keep buying it no matter what kind of logic you try to inject into their heads. Their only response is to get angry and insult you. But I don't care as much as the people on this forum think I do. I like my PS3 and would never trade it for a half-baked system like the Wii, but you guys can go ahead and line Nintendo's pockets while receiving almost nothing in return. I don't really care.

Don't get me wrong because I also have a PS3 and it's my favorite system. I like the Wii mainly because the whole family can play games that aren't intimidating or hard to learn. It's more of a secondary and social console. I understand where your coming from and I agree with a lot of what you just said. However, some people like the Wii better because it is more accessible and others because they like the games it has. I don't play my Wii & DS that often (play PSP & PS3 daily) because most of the games don't appeal to me.

Nintendo and their promises?why only nintendo should block decent games from releasing? Why not other companies(oh yeah because they release sooo many games and so much quality)?that is the most innocent and ridiculous statement i have heard in my life. The conspiracy theory?the world is-stupid-but me theory?you know better than reviewers and gamers all around the world. You cant convince people the games they like are bad, just because you hate the brand. Is like me telling me that you shouldnt like cakes or strawberrys. It doesnt works that way. What is what you hope you can accomplish ?just rant?there is a lot of people like you,in every matter and subject. They are trolls. And trolls are usually being whited out.Heck you hate games you havent even played. How can someone take the opinions of someone who doesnt even tries seriously? How??

I stopped reading there. Read your statement again. Nintendo doesn't make 3rd party games, other developers do. That's why Nintendo games are called 1st party.
Short of allowing their IP to be used, they have nothing to do with 3rd party development at all. Using your logic, when Windows crashes the manufacturer of my processor is to blame.
Your not being misunderstood, your lashing out at the wrong people.

Yes your right Nintendo has no say in it at all. They are at the mercy of the developers. The developers make the game behind Nintendo's back, seal it in a black box and mail it to Nintendo, who then opens it and plays it on the Wii and says "what crap is this. Oh well we brought it so let's sell it anyway". I mean come on. You think that Nintendo isn't checking up on their investment. You think that they just give the developers their money and just say "don't mess it up!" and go home and kneel down and pray to God that the game doesn't suck? If that is so then why didn't this happen with the PS2? Why is it the the PS2 even though everyone said that it was inferior to Xbox and Gamecube did so many developers make so many good games on it? Final Fantasy, Grand theft Auto, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, so many Grade A games that became great on the PS2.
So what is wrong with the Wii? People claim that it is more powerful then the PS2 but it still can't prove it. The amount of Grade A games that are on the Wii can be calculated on my fingers. The Wii isn't misunderstood. Developers just see it for what it is. You put a lot of hard work into the PS2 and you get Final Fantasy XII and God of War well done, well rounded games. You take the Wii build the game from the ground up push it to it's limits and you still get short, glitchy, uninteresting games that sell a little more then a million units but developers still get money for less work so why not. Maybe developers aren't as stupid as you think and know that the Wii is not a good investment for a developer that wants to make a game that is popular and long lasting and not just some stupid fad that lasts 5 days at the most.

@tiamat: Why would Nintendo care? They are in business to make money. As long as the console and games they make are selling well, who cares about the rest? Sure it would be great if more 3rd party games matched Nintendo's in quality, I couldn't agree more.
If game selection was really *that much better* on other systems, why is the Wii outselling them 10 times over?
Who cares about the PS2, do they even make games for it anymore? The Wii is not in competition with the PS2 so I don't see what the point is of even bringing that up.

"If game selection was really *that much better* on other systems, why is the Wii outselling them 10 times over?"
Wii was outselling by 2:1 / 3 or 4:1 at most but nothing remotely close to 10 times as much. I think the reason sells so well because it is cheap to buy (cheapest for a long time) and the fact that traditional non gamers have a console they can understand.
"Who cares about the PS2, do they even make games for it anymore?"
Yes we still usually see 3 PS2 games every week. We usually see a big title once every month or two. The PS2 is still the best console for playing RPGs.
"The Wii is not in competition with the PS2 so I don't see what the point is of even bringing that up."
They are both consoles so they are competing and very much so for the same customers at this point. He made the comparison between the two because he fees that we haven't seen much on the Wii that couldn't have been done last generation from a technical standpoint. In fact, he thinks nothing on The Wii looks better than the best PS2 games (GOW SoTC) from last generation. He feels Nintendo isn't encouraging 3rd party developers to push the limitations of the hardware like what was done with the PS2. The PS2 is nearly 10 years old and he feels there is still no way to say the Wii has done anything better than the best of last generation console.
All of this is my interpretation of his comments and your questions. For the record I don't agree with some of it but was simply trying to answer your questions while reading between the lines. Don't think these comments are entirely made up of my opinion.
