Though Ryu Hayabusa and his reckless vendetta against all manner of attached limbs might be contrary to the more ... subtle approaches employed by a traditional ninja, we don't recall anybody complaining too vehemently while they were jumping off a wall and decapitating a hundred demonic spider things. According to a recent issue of Japanese mag Famitsu, PlayStation 3 owners are set to get another taste of Team Ninja's action franchise, in the form of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.
Much like the original Sigma reworked the Xbox's Ninja Gaiden (to former Team Ninja designer Tomonobu Itagaki's chagrin), Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 appears to be a modified version of the Xbox 360's Ninja Gaiden 2. Images depict several familiar environments and characters, along with some new shots of Dead or Alive's Ayane, who may be a playable character.
Expect more details to be formally announced over the next week, including confirmation on whether this is "a loss of face for everyone involved." We certainly expect monster faces to get the worst of it.
[Thanks, Robert]

omg I just saw screenshots of it... finally, an online multiplayer Gundam. My prayers have been answered. I'm guessing the game won't come to the US. I hope the game doesn't lag too much from the States if I import it though.

Thanks for the tip. Hadn't heard that yet. It's a bit of a scare that the game is for 0081, and not 0079, but I hope they can get the multiplayer to a point where I'd actually want to play it (the last two Gundam games to make it to Next-Gen consoles were a disaster. Not counting Dynasty Warriors Gundam)
This is a pretty thin 30th anniversary so far. 1 OVA, 1 Game, and 1 statue. The game and the OVA better be good =/

Best part is Microsoft published Ninja Gaiden 2 so either MS sold the rights or "Sigma" denotes a different series altogether, with playable hot chicks even.

I love Ninja Gaiden (1) not so much number 2. This can only improve on the original overrated glitchy 360 version. I'm looking forward to it. I also read a translation of the scans that ayane is in fact a playable character- which is nice

Overrated? I thought NG2 got about a high 80 average with most reviewers saying the game lacks a love and polish the original had.

Yeah, NG2 was fun and all but it definitely could have used a little more time in the oven, and I believe the scores reflected that.

The ONLY things good about NG2 were the combat and weapons. Everything else was either a letdown or a poor shadow of the first game.
If they tie the story together more coherently, add newer enemies for the higher difficulties, remove the Water Dragon, Troll, Gigadeath bosses, tweak the fiend bosses especially Volf, add some older enemies from NG1, and for the love of god add Fiend Ryu in the mix, it may be an awesome redux.
Also this can mean they are gearing up for a multilplat NG3 in the future. I'm gonna support them just for that possibility and hope that Sigma 2 can change alot of the missteps NG2 had.

When I was playing Ninja Gaiden II, I had the overwhelming feeling that the designers didn't have their hearts in it 100%. Now we know that Itagaki was having major problems with the studio, and that it probably contributed to Ninja Gaiden II not being as good as it could have been. If they can fix it up for the PS3, that will be great, but I'm still not sure if I'll buy it considering that they dicked Itagaki around so expertly.
We shall see.

As someone who spent hours beating Ninja Gaiden 1 and Black over and over again, let me say, Good riddance to bad rubbish.
NG2 was ass, camera sucked, the stair fight slowdown was hillllaaaaarious, and the bosses were annoying bow fights... almost every single one of em. And no real platforming. It was such a disappointment, I don't know why ps3 owners would want it.

If they make the game THAT much better on the PS3 I will definitely pick it up for the PS3 again(or... for the first time. W/e So i'm glad a Sigma is a set version on the PS3. Can't wait. Without any spoilers though, NG2 is just like SG S, & NG B, so if you didn't like S, no point of hyping this one :) Fanboy or not

NG2 was not like NG B. Black was better and had a slightly different feel. it was also harder.

I wonder if this version will feel finished or rushed out the door so this lead can move on with his life as well...

Hopefully it feels more fleshed out and tested so the lead can learn from his Sigma titles and start working on a NG3.

Yeah! Putting out a full priced port of a currently discounted game that's already stopped selling on its original platform! That'll show em!
Like, remember when Lost Planet, Bioshock, and The Orange Box almost put Microsoft out of business by coming to the PS3? No, because it never happened.

I'll rent it. Love me some Ninja Gaiden 2action. IMO NG2 WAS AWESOME and hard as fuck (thats what she said). If they can fix the small gripes a lot of people (myself not included) had with NG2 AND add better graphics + more features, this is winnnn!

Camera, controls and the resolution was only 585p. It still looked great but yeah I could see the difference. Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3 looked better because it was in 1080p. I have high hopes for this one. Hopefully they throw an online Ninja horde mode or something like that, everybodys doing it! Would be sweet!

The camera left a lot to be desired, the game was really, really linear, and there were some disproportionately difficult boss battles. Also, you ended up gathering a cubic butt ton of weapons that really didn't add a lot to the gameplay.
Other than that, NG2 was one of the bloodiest, exciting, and most challenging games I played last year.

Concerning the linearity of the game (NGII is actually broken up into levels, there is no overworld), it completely killed the scalability of the original NG/NGB game. NGII throws everything its got at you at all times, it lacks the gradation of increasingly difficult fights to look forward too. All fights, all the time, with the same extra hard-hitting foes the original game would pit against you at the end of a chapter, rearing their ugly head in the first fight, and subsequently every fight of the level. It's horrifically unbalanced in that regard.
Add in the hodgepodge of weapons that try all too hard to be different and it isn't hard to see why the sequel to what is arguably the most carefully crafted 3D action game of all time completely fell off the radar come GOTY awards time last year.

Aside from Ch. 7, Ch. 2/Ch.11 and Ch. 1 the level design left much to be desired.
The green tunnel in Ch. 9. All of Ch. 3. Just the fact you can run through whole levels without fighting felt extremely rushed and untested.
Instead of multiple locations for each chapter, I'd much prefer 3 locales with missions in each. This would also have helped the story more I think.
There's some bosses that felt incomplete in their design, some were cool but a huge letdown once you actually played them.
Itagaki called it his "Swan Song" and it was more like a "Swan up the ass" it felt so rushed. Hopefully almost everything can be addressed in this remake.

Like you did it for the 1st why couldnt they do it for the second on but on time or at least 3 months from each other.. How do they expect me to pay a brand new 60 bones for this shit when it already dropped in price on the Xbox side.. Bunch of lazy mofo's if you ask me.

I'm glad that I did not pick this up on the 360. I can't wait for the PS3 version. I've been hoping for a new Ninja Gaiden game. Plus, Tecmo likes money. Is anyone surprised this is headed to PS3?
