I really don't like the idea of being asked while playing a game to pay for DLC. While its nice to have DLC supported, the idea of asking me to buy seems to be something that will be abused by devs.

its not like your going to be in the middle of a level and boom a pop up comes up asking you to buy something. most devs will have it in the main menu and you go there and purchase it. people always think negative on the net

Hopefully there'll be some sort of warning in the description before you buy the game. It would be utter bullshit to have already paid for a game and then have them sell you the ending *coughMikeCappswetdreamcough*

Luckily the iPhone has an awesome system for reviewing apps. Too bad the Live Marketplace doesn't have a system like that.

Johnny, if you go follow the press conference you will see that what I was concerned over is exactly what they have shown in multiple apps. Look at the MP shooter game and the pets game as examples.

I agree Duke.

"Do you want to buy a rocket launcher for .99?"

Are you kidding me? If that's where the App store is headed, I'm not happy.

*sigh*

As always, it's the users that will decide what works and what doesn't. If a dev implements this in a stupid, greedy way that just hacks off users then they won't make money and the development community will learn. This is especially true thanks to the App Store rating system where you can leave whatever comments you like and see them when buying apps either through iTunes or on the iPhone / iPod Touch. So if a dev takes the proverbial there's going to be a lot of really obvious comments to that effect and low star ratings for that title.

As for this being how it was demonstrated today.. well, of course it was, it was a demo after all, and a demo of API functionality to devs at that. You're not really looking to build perfect interfaces here, just do enough in the shortest possible time to get the message across.

Nobody's mentioned that 3rd party accessories can be used in apps now. My dream of a sleeve controller for the iPhone may come true now!

Images blocked for you? It means iPhone games will support DLC if need be. It will also support subscriptions too so if somebody makes a decent MMO...

I like the book idea too. Get a book reading app (Stanza?) and buy books within in.

I think it was inevitable for the iPhone to start following an increasing trend of selling DLC. As long as they keep it realistic in pricing, I don't mind much.

The iPhone is definitely very intriguing as a game platform. It is great that major studios such as Konami, Capcom and Square Enix, among many others, are already developing for it.

See I despise what companies like EA and Capcom do with DLC. But what I dont mind is paying for a few dollars for a full game and later getting new stuff for a couple more dollars.

What I don't like is paying $60 for a big 3D game and then have these guys sell me unlock codes and things the game should have had from the start for $10.

On a smaller scale i think i finally see how this DLC could be... (fuck it) ... okay. Just keep it out of my Valve games kapish?
