If I had an iPhone, I could imagine how an FPS would play.

Gee whizz that might be because there was a press event today regarding the future iPhone SDK.
Sort of like when everyone else has press releases related to games it leads to lots of posts...

I read on Engadget that this is all demo stuff. Perhaps it will look better closer to 3.0's launch.

That said, I just CAN'T see the FPS genre flourishing on the iPhone. The whole no button thing makes it's hard to imagine easy controls.

BIA controlled pretty awfully, which was a 3rd person shooter. A FPS, I think called Cube, was basically unplayable. I hope they can figure something out for this title, because virtual analogues font work, and tilt controls aren't good for FPS.

The graphics don't just look basic, they look straight out of The Journeyman Project.

This micro-transactions crap is such bullshit. Why the fuck can't developers just include features in the game you already paid for instead of trying to nickel and dime you every chance they get.

I absolutely agree with you, but don't forget these dudes see us as giant money signs. They make games for profit.

that's because the general apple audience is exactly that!

walking cash machines. They will buy into the micro regime hook line and sinker.

The "iamrich" app actually sold some copies. What does that tell you?

Apple=trendy=/=quality.

Ipods were NEVER the best mp3 players on the market. Iphones were NEVER the best phones

Macbooks...ok they are nice, quality hardware. Got me there :P

Some people buy Apple hardware because they think they're cool spending all that money, sure. Some people also buy Alienware and VoodooPC or Duesenbergs and Ferraris for the same reason. Conversely, most people buy Apple hardware because they prefer it and/or are used to it, most people buy Alienware because they don't want to take the time to learn how to build their own gaming rig, and most people buy Duesenbergs... Who am I kidding, if you buy a Duesenberg you ARE better than everyone else and deserve to parade that fact around.

i realize that it was a developers conference (so it's something they would want to see) but i just hated how they were parading those super obtrusive micro transactions all over the presentations. seeing "purchase levels 11-20 for $1.99?" in games makes my stomach turn, even if it is just on a presentation. pretty soon they are going to take all skill out of video games with micro transactions. they already do it some now with things that used to be unlockable by being good at the game now being sold as DLC extras. our hobby is just becoming more and more mainstream, which makes it prime for milking just like everything else i suppose.

Micro-transaction based weapon depot? Yeah, I can see this game being a huge success. /s

Seriously, touch screen FPS is horrible. I like playing DS now and then, but didn't that system irrevocably prove that FPS controls in a touch interface isn't that much fun? And that's when you're not using the viewing screen to control the game as well!

i agree. FPS controls are bad enough on my DS with my stylus obstructing my view, i can't imagine they would be much better with my finger on the screen in the way, or even combing the edges of the screen. i love the idea of mobile online gaming (yea i thought the N-Gage was a great idea just with a poor realization) but this just doesn't seem like they hit the nail on the head yet.

Oh good, you read this stuff.

I hope your target isn't actual gamers, but just the mindless souls that buy in to trends. Otherwise you might be disappointed.

So when does Apple explain why the new OS is free to iPhone owners yet iPod Touch owners have to pay $10 for it?

Posted this in the comment section of Engadget today, after I did a google search about just what was up with all that... It's from a Gizmodo comment from last year re: this same question -

""1-16-2008 @ 3:43PM
Gazmik Fizzwidget said...

Complain to the FTC, not to Apple. Thanks to laws passed in the wake
of Enron and other accounting scandals, it's illegal for Apple to
"realize value" from a product, i.e. add features to it, after it's
been sold. (Presumably the idea behind this is that if a company
plans ahead of time to add value to a product after it's sold, they
can manipulate their own stock price.)

They can add features to the iPhone for free because they're
receiving revenue from the associated AT&T subscription -- by
continuing to pay your monthly fee, you're paying for the added value
delivered in software updates."

ng:moco is having a hard time with the recent DLC content showed in the presentation. In fact, they have stated in several iPhone sites and twitter tha they plan to release specific information of DLC will be used and that the one shown was purely a demo.

Hope they'll take a gamer friendly approach.
