Sony has revealed the disturbing list of top SingStar tracks downloaded from the SingStore. The Guardian is clearly of the same mindset as us when it speculates that only the impulsive purchases of those coming home after a long night of drinking at the pub can explain this list:
10. "American Pie" - Don McLean
9. "Baby One More Time" - Britney Spears
8. "Take On Me" - A-ha
7. "Eye Of The Tiger" - Survivor
6. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" - Cyndi Lauper
5. "Torn" - Natalie Imbruglia
4. "Suspicious Minds" - Elvis Presley
3. "Just Like A Pill" - P!nk
2. "Final Countdown" - Europe
1. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" - Bonnie Tyler
Since the launch of the SingStore, four million songs have been purchased from the service. A majority of these tracks are from the '80s, with the artists split across genders. We're just stuck on "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in the top spot -- really!?

Good lord, the quality of the fanboy blogs shameful.
Have you ever sang karaoke? Ever? "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is a classic karaoke track for a reason: that shit's fun as hell to sing. In fact, ALL of those songs are fun to sing.
Don't confuse good music taste with taste in karaoke songs, 'cause they're totally different things.

It's not like they have a whole lot to chose from. Most of the songs on there are weird Euro-pop. Anyone that actually saw the poor selection on there would not be suprised by this most downloaded list. They are in serious need of an American advisor in their staff to make the shop more apealing to us over here.

Um. You should probably post about the fact that the Wireless Mics for Singstar are finally officialy out on Friday. (At least in Europe). Not only that. Play.com is ALREADY selling and shipping them now.

Like Jack, I too have all these songs.
My guess is they're popular because...you know...folks actually know these songs. Everyone at least knows the chorus to Total Eclipse of the Heart.
Were you guys surprised to see The Ting-Tings or DJ BOBO left off?

I personally don't have any singstars (bought my sister all of the PS2 singstar discs) but the Queen Singstar is pretty likely a buy for me. is there any metal in the singstore?

Don't dog on Bonnie Tyler. Total Eclipse of the Heart is the greatest MV ever. It has ninjas, jousters, and demon choir boys.

American Pie is a true classic about the death of a rock and roll icon... Way to show your lack of appreciation for a good song, Mr. Alexander Slinky.

One can only imagine how profitable SingStar would be if they put up the "Whenever You Need Somebody" album for download.
If you know what I mean.

Guilty as charged - I've made 1 singstar download, and that was total eclipse of the heart

You're assuming that no females play Singstar or games for the matter.

Also remember singstar is more popular in Europe... unless this is a US list only... and like someone else said... these are all great songs for singstar...
What list of songs would Alexander Sliwinski suggest since he seems to think this list is "disturbing"

Considering that most of these appear in the first two song packs I am not surprised at all. And I have seven of these. All I am missing from this is Natalie Imbruglia, Pink, and Britney. I have the rest. If you ever done real karaoke you know these are a fit for karaoke.

LOL! I have 7 of them, Britney Spears is banned from my house...by me =D

When I first saw "Torn" on the list, I thought it was the song by Disturbed.

Turn around bright eyes, turn around. This is a rockin top ten list, anyone can post lists to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/ and then link back to your site. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.

If we could buy the damn queen tracks in the US store, maybe it'd be a better list.
I love how they promised the store would not be region specific, but then like everything else, lied.

Like half of these songs are classics and a total blast to sing. What the hell is wrong with you guys? Sure the order is messed up, but come on, they've got the GREATEST SONG EVER* at #2!
