One of the developers behind the classic Fallout has ended his tenure with Interplay to join inXile Entertainment. Jason Anderson brings his survival instincts to inXile as the creative director for an unannounced role-playing title. At the end of his career with Interplay, Anderson was working as the creative director on a next generation MMO named Project: V13 -- which our blogging cohorts at BigDownload surmise was a poorly coded way of saying Vault 13, a long-rumored Fallout MMO.
Anderson's exit probably feels like déjà vu to his Interplay comrades. In 1998, Anderson left Interplay to form Troika Games (best known for Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura) but returned in 2007 when that company shut down. While we wish Anderson the best, we really hope Interplay will reveal what Project: V13 really is ... as long as it is a Fallout MMO.

inExile is the company of Brian Fargo, founder of Interplay who was forced out around 2000. They make underwhelming games like The Bard's Tale for Xbox and Line Rider for the Wii.

They made Bard's Tale? Haha! That game was HILARIOUS.
It was no Fallout, but I enjoyed it.

I agree with Beau. The news isn't that someone left Interplay, but that there's even an Interplay to leave.
I wonder if they still hold the license for many of their 'back in the day' titles. I was always a fan of oldschool Interplay, they could pull themselves out of obscurity if they revisit those.
MDK, Another World/Out of This World, Castles, Die by the Sword, even Battle Chess, .. I mean, c'mon, the list can go on.

Is it supposed to say "NUCLAR" in the picture at the top or is it a typo?

Interplay sold Bethesda the Fallout rights in April 2007, but retained the right to make FO MMO. Part of the deal was that Interplay had to get funding for the MMO to go forward by April 2009, or Beth gets the FO MMO part of the license back.
With the project leader leaving 2 weeks before April, it's pretty clear that the Fallout MMO is no going to be made (by Interplay). Thank fucking god.

I would like to see a Fallout MMO NOT based on Bethesda's engine.

Interesting tidbit:
Fallout could have been a Wasteland title -- it is very similar, but EA held the rights to it at the time (check out the Fallout (series) Wikipedia entry).
inXile now owns the rights to Wasteland (check ou the inXile Wikipedia entry).
Thus, inXile can basically make another CRPG style Fallout game.

but they won't because it has 0 chance of blockbuster greatness. The originals didn't even do tremendously... no publisher's going to throw Class A money at that type of RPG, no matter how epic the designers past works have been.
It's an industry of money, not art or fun. That's fine, we just have to come to grips that there will never be another 3rd Person, Isometric, Turn Based RPG hit like the first 2 fallout games.

I'm not sure how "rumored" the Fallout MMO is, it's been a known part of the deal since Interplay sold the fallout rights to Bethesda. The contract stipulated that Bethesda owned the rights to the fallout series but Interplay could release a Fallout MMO as long as the released it within a certain time period (something like 3 years from when the contract was signed).

I heard a rumor a while back that Interplay was bringing back Earthworm Jim. That would be awesome if it turns out to be true.
Descent, Freespace, Sacrifice, and Giants: Citizen Kabuto were all great games. I miss those days.
