Is Hot Shots Golf not cute enough for you? Tomy is bringing the Korean PSP golf series, Pangya, to PSP this summer. The game will offer thousands of character and equipment customization options and 18 playable characters. The release of Pangya: Fantasy Golf will be Tomy's first foray into the PSP scene here in the States.
Check out a Japanese language trailer after the break.
How are the actual golf physics of this series? The Hot Shots Golf series may be "cute" but it's got the most realistic and accurate golf physics of around.
Personally, I think the physics of PangYa are pretty good, overall. Mind you that PangYa is more fantasy based than Hot Shots (i.e. you can play on a volcano-filled course, have a paper bag for a caddie, or turn your ball into a tomahawk missile), so some things might seem a bit off.
All that stuff's fine with me as long as the actual golf physics are pretty good, in fact the weirder the better.
What's not alright is a game that's just cutesy dressing up with flakey golfing gameplay. This applies to all sports game imo. The actual presentation doesn't need to be realistic as long as the actual gameplay is.
If you're uncertain about the mechanics, I'd recommend trying out the PC version. The US PC version is currently down, under change of management. It was once hosted by OGPlanet under the name Albatross18: Realms of PangYa, but went down March 10th. The USA branch of Ntreev Soft (the Korean developer) is relaunching the game later this month as PangYa USA.
It's your typical Korean MMO: free to play, but the really GOOD items cost real money.
If you do decide to try out PangYa USA when it launches, feel free to add me (I'll be BPMOmega there, too), and I'll be happy to teach you the ropes. :D
http://pangya.ntreev.net/ is the new official site. Keep on the lookout there for updates when it's coming back up. There's currently the "Season 3" promo video playing there, so you can get a kind of general idea of the game. There's also plenty of videos up of the PC version, the Wii versions, and the PSP version uploaded by players all over the world on YouTube.
I love PangYa. I've been playing the PC version for a couple of years (the US server; formally known as Albatross18, but soon relaunching as PangYa USA), and I just got my Korean version of the PSP game in the mail (special edition with all sorts of bonuses, huzzah!). So, I'm looking forward to this.
The physics are quite good and intricate. There are wind patterns to contest with in advance courses and you never quite feel like "shi.. how did that happen?". It's more like "Whoops, I screwed that one up". The physics are heavily mathematically based. The best players use calculators and know -exactly- how much distance to take off for instance based on lie, height, etc, but it's not so exact that it's not challenging even for them (luck is involved to a small degree), AND you can still have a fun game without delving into the math of it all. It's really one of the best fantasy golf games ever made. Check out the FTP PC version.
I got my copy from thepiratebay and i am addicted to this game. i dont understand a single word or korean and have no idea what is going on during the story modes but it is easy to find your way around.
