Little known fact: Swedes love a good pat on the back. It's true,
all of us like to be congratulated on a job well done, but for them it's in a league of its own. This year, they've heaped the honor for the best Swedish-made game at the annual Dataspelsgalan award show onto DICE's parkour-inspired first-person scoot-er,
Mirror's Edge. When asked why it was so special, top Swedes commented to Joystiq that the "graphics on level three were really tight," among other things. One thing is certain:
Mirror's Edge was definitely
one of the better games from last year.
Previous Swedish GOTY winners:
- 2000 Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter
- 2001 Ground Control
- 2002 Headhunter
- 2003 Battlefield 1942
- 2004 -
- 2005 Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
- 2006 Battlefield 2
- 2007 GTR 2: FIA GT Racing Game
- 2008 World in Conflict

LOL Nice Stuart Smalley reference.
Mike @ Mar 18th 2009 6:01PM
The Swede GOTY list is pretty interesting.
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 18th 2009 6:06PM
That's a pretty atrocious GOTY list. I'd say 2004 is easily their best choice though.

why isn't this game on the wii already. who knows may it will look better and have more levels in a wii version.
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 18th 2009 6:12PM
I looked at your history and I see what you're doing. It's almost like reverse trolling, meaning by saying "why isn't it on wii" to everything you're really pointing out how weak the lineup actually is.
Impressive...most impressive.

Wow tmac your like some troll outing god!
John @ Mar 18th 2009 7:16PM
what are you guys down there blabbering about, well anyways when I picked the wii as my platform I figured that all of these games where going to be release to all platforms and the wii version would only sacrifice a bit of graphics for motion controls, but I am starting to realize that the wii is basically being puked on by everyone and is just getting stupid ports of the real games. All I am saying is that is not right that the wii is not getting these games that are supposed to be for all platforms.
John @ Mar 18th 2009 7:19PM
I meant the guys above me making the idiotic comments.
Roto13 @ Mar 18th 2009 8:00PM
You do not buy a Wii for multiplatform games. Mirror's Edge would gain nothing by being a Wii game.
The Dark Wayne @ Mar 18th 2009 8:07PM
Why should they be multiplatform? Because you only have a wii? I dont remember any of the games you posted about ever saying they were going to develop for the wii, so it's not like you were betrayed or anything. So QQ you knew what you were getting into when you put all your money on one horse
tmacairjordan87 @ Mar 18th 2009 8:12PM
When was the last time Nintendo had third party support? What made you think the wii was going to be different? Sorry dude, but you made the wrong decision so you either need to fix it by getting a ps3 or 360 or just stop crying about it.
David @ Mar 18th 2009 6:15PM
noes, I was too slow:(
Morisato @ Mar 18th 2009 6:15PM
OMG WTF?!
uncle jesse @ Mar 18th 2009 6:30PM
I actually really enjoyed this game!
GOTY though? Not so much.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Mar 18th 2009 7:35PM
it was alright for the first level or so, but when it came down to the game only being what it was, yeah, it killed itself
Gotti @ Mar 18th 2009 6:37PM
Hehe, I'm swedish and the only game on that list I can slightly agree with is Battlefield 2. I wonder who the hell is voting for these stuff, it sure as hell isn't "the people".
Looking closer on their site (yes, I realize you can't since it's in swedish) you can see there was a vote for everyone to participate in to crown the people's game of the year, and the winner there seems slightly more realistic even tho I don't agree with it: Grand Theft Auto 4.
Gotti @ Mar 18th 2009 6:44PM
I just wanna add that this is in no way a big event in Sweden, it's not even taped. Very low budget and not alot of ppl know about it, hell, the first time I heard about it was when reading this article, and I'm a huge gamer nerd. ;)
Otis Whitaker @ Mar 18th 2009 6:45PM
Is this only Swedish-made games, or are the Swedes just very absurdly nationalistic?
Oddish @ Mar 20th 2009 9:56AM
Read the article much?
"This year, they've heaped the honor for the best Swedish-made game"
BlackDove @ Mar 18th 2009 6:50PM
I thought it was GOTY world wide personally.
The only people the game sucked for were the people who suck at games (which was almost everyone).
I know, that insults you. My apologies. It's just an opinion based on facts.

Levi @ Mar 18th 2009 11:18PM
I agree with you dude. The game is already frustrating for me, and I picked up the formula pretty quick. I think a lot of people are turned off by of because the can't figure out where to go and get shot too quickly. You really gotta think outside the FPS box to figure some of those parts out.
Time trials are even too frustrating for me, and I'm a masochistic gamer :/
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 18th 2009 6:54PM
Ground Control ftw :D
Please make more ground control games, im dying here, I need a decent strategy game :(
Burbank @ Mar 18th 2009 7:13PM
They did make one, only its set in the 1980's and called World in Conflict. Same basic gameplay concept, same developer.
Burbank @ Mar 18th 2009 7:11PM
A. This is a "Swedish-Made-Game OTY" List. All the games in that list are developed by Swedish studios. The list is not about crowning Sweden's officially favourite game of the year or something...
B. We have some pretty impressive shit for such a small country.
ittybittygirl @ Mar 18th 2009 8:16PM
Hell yes you do. "Låt den rätte komma in" was a bloody brilliant film/novel.
CH3BURASHKA @ Mar 18th 2009 7:20PM
ME was a good game, but I don't know about GOTY. This does seem very biased.
Oddish @ Mar 20th 2009 10:01AM
Read the article much?
"This year, they've heaped the honor for the best Swedish-made game"
CH3BURASHKA @ Mar 20th 2009 1:29PM
DAMN IT!
Lucky @ Mar 18th 2009 7:27PM
No games by Paradox Interactive? Pfft, they can't even give out biased awards right.
Mr Khan @ Mar 18th 2009 7:35PM
That is a very strange list of GOTY's. Very, very strange.
Gotti @ Mar 18th 2009 7:53PM
What Burbank said above. Apparently it covers swedish developers ONLY.
Whats up Joystiq, get your facts straight. ;)
Bagels: Commander in Chief of the sarcasm alert force. Flying Monkeys beware. @ Mar 18th 2009 9:52PM
Dude, seriously? Like 15 minutes late?
Negativecool @ Mar 18th 2009 10:37PM
Apparently they boycotted poor taste in 2004.
Gotti @ Mar 19th 2009 1:12AM
Nicely edited there mr.Author.
Pwnzerfaust @ Mar 19th 2009 3:36AM
They may have tightened up the graphics, but at what cost?
At what cost?
acefondu @ Mar 19th 2009 8:34AM
I heart Mirror's Edge.
ToRo @ Mar 19th 2009 1:19PM
Just to put this out there, I would so totally hit that....twice.

Oddish @ Mar 20th 2009 10:04AM
Great game! And once again, it's only for swedish-made games and thus not biased. Get it though your thick heads.
