2K dashes BioShock 2's subtitle 'Dreams'
While fueling our nightmares with images of the Big Sister and her giant needle, 2K Games has done away with a Sea of Dreams -- a.k.a. the original subtitle for BioShock 2. Games blog Primotech noticed the omission whilst browsing Game Informer's cover story on the game and received confirmation of the change by way of a 2K community rep.
We contacted 2K Marin, where we'd recently sat one room away from where the hotly anticipated sequel is being developed, and were told the same by the game's publicist. (Who has no doubt played it -- but we're not jealous, no way. After all, we'll be hopping in a Bathysphere and returning to Rapture ourselves early next month.)

Well, "Sea of Dreams" was/is a stupid subtitle. So there.
sk8monroe81 @ Mar 19th 2009 9:51PM
interesting to see what bioshock multiplayer will involve...
hopefully not just me vs you deathmatch...
i enjoyed the first game much.
any word on the lead platform? or extras coming to a platform?
Hyams @ Mar 19th 2009 10:13PM
Probably either 360 or simultanious development. Preferably the latter, as then they'll be closer in quality.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 360 version got exclusive DLC too. Microsoft seems to like buying that.
WINterfang @ Mar 19th 2009 10:56PM
LOL Hyams is hurt.
sk8monroe81 @ Mar 19th 2009 11:37PM
killzone 2 was actually the hardest FPS game i have played this gen and was great IMO... no complaints from me..
Vidikron @ Mar 20th 2009 1:47AM
"Hyams is probably in a corner with tmac and johnny crying their eyeballs out over Killzone 2's massive failure...."
LOL... what? How was KZ2 a massive failure??? WTF? It turned out to be a fantastic game in both single and multiplayer. Best game I've played on any platform since MGS4... and I have every platform.
Vidikron @ Mar 20th 2009 10:25AM
LOL... so FSC got voted down for saying KZ2 was a massive failure and I got voted down for saying it wasn't? You guys are dumb.
Cj @ Mar 19th 2009 9:51PM
It doesnt seem to make sense with the whole Big Sister thing. Unless she has a dream.
Zacqary Adam Green @ Mar 19th 2009 9:51PM
So a game that doesn't need a subtitle actually ISN'T going to have one? Blasphemy.
DBuck_Eye @ Mar 19th 2009 9:57PM
I've always hated when sequels have both a number and a subtitle. It seems to me like you should have one or the other, not both.
Churchy @ Mar 19th 2009 10:07PM
Iunno "Sea of Dreams" is better than like... Call of Duty 5 : Modern Warfare 2
Heimbachae @ Mar 20th 2009 6:31AM
FAIL, that's call of duty 6: moderner warfare deuce
Halwende @ Mar 19th 2009 10:09PM
I wonder if that's anything to do with the fact that the abbreviation of "Sea of Dreams" to "SoD" was pointed out to them, considering "sod" is a slightly insulting word to some people *shrug*
Discotheque @ Mar 19th 2009 10:37PM
Sod off.
Drew @ Mar 20th 2009 12:15PM
Anyone remember Spear of Destiny? Old game on the PC that actually was installed by default into a the folder SoD.
Funny - that's all I remember about it.
Wubbytoes @ Mar 19th 2009 10:21PM
That is very good news. Sea of Dreams was such an unbelievably awful subtitle.
Negativecool @ Mar 19th 2009 10:39PM
Yea, it reminded me of the Titanic, "The ship of dreams."
And the Titanic was an overhyped piece of shit that sank after it was poked by a block of ice.
I think the 2K developers didn't want any kind of association with an overhyped flop.
Doug @ Mar 19th 2009 11:13PM
Poked ice.
343 Guilty Fart @ Mar 20th 2009 1:56PM
Yes, the most successful box office film ever, which grossed 1.8 billion dollars, was a massive flop.
Vegnagun bwf @ Mar 19th 2009 10:46PM
That's good to hear.
Get@yaboy @ Mar 19th 2009 11:26PM
I "jizz in my pants" every time I think of the first game.
Can't wait til the next one, no matter wut its called
mynk @ Mar 21st 2009 12:48AM
he just said what we were all thinking but with a popular culture reference. be easy on the kid. he'll learn the way of the joystiqs soon.
here's a few tips.
no car analogies
no popular culture references.
and absolutely no room for proper logic or thought out comments.
ChiTownRuler23 @ Mar 20th 2009 2:11AM
This game cant come soon enough Bioshock was the first game i could play past 3 hours and not get frustrated with it.
Numerous @ Mar 20th 2009 7:28AM
Would you kindly drop the tacked on Multiplayer and focus on making the campaign GOOD?
WINterfang @ Mar 20th 2009 9:56AM
What animal is suppose to be your avatar? I lost a couple of minutes figuring out.
Jody Anthony (gamertag and psn: JodyAnthony) @ Mar 20th 2009 10:30AM
tis a wombat!
ChomskyKnows @ Mar 20th 2009 10:29AM
Great news. Can we make up our own sequel titles now?...like we did when we didn't know what the TFD was for the Army of Two sequel??? Please?
Dalrint @ Mar 20th 2009 10:49AM
With every news article about Bioshock 2, I'm more concerned it's going to suck.
Vegeta (DAT ASS!!!) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:18PM
Except it probably won't.
Drew @ Mar 20th 2009 12:25PM
I used to think like that, but now my game collection is full of first-rate sequels:
God of War 2
Gears of War 2
Call of Duty 4
Grand Theft Auto 4
Metal Gear Solid 4
Diablo 2 (way to break the 3-word-title streak, Diablo)
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Half-life 2
I'm sure there's more I can't remember off of the top of my head.
So now I give game sequels a chance. Movie sequels on the other hand...
Vegeta (DAT ASS!!!) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:17PM
Awww. I actually liked that subtitle. Just simply calling it Bioshock 2 makes the title so...generic.
KeenCommander @ Mar 20th 2009 5:53PM
I'm with you, though we seem to be in the minority. But either way, I'm far more concerned about whether or not it's a good game than what they're calling it.
IMO, the "an invisible weapon for an invisible war" concept of Deus Ex: Invisible War (a.k.a. Deus Ex 2) was really cool, but it certainly didn't make the game any better than if they'd just called it DX2 and actually developed a faithful sequel.*
This is not pure hate on Invisible War, I actually enjoyed the game - I just found it to be a big disappointment and not live up to its potential.
Vegeta (DAT ASS!!!) @ Mar 20th 2009 10:22PM
No I see what you're saying. It's just I really liked that Sea of Dreams subtitle.
The Alex @ Mar 20th 2009 12:37PM
Well, if Bioshock 2 is indeed a prequel, having the name "Bioshock 2" doesn't really make sense, because it comes before Bioshock.
I think they should call it "Bioshock: Sea of Dreams" or "Bioshock 0"...
But regardless of the name, I have no doubt it'll be as good if not better than the amazing first game!
