Beyonce is in Rhythm Heaven (ads), loves Guitar Hero
How do you market a very cute, but weird, musical microgame collection to the DS's "expanded" audience? For Rhythm Heaven's ad campaign, Nintendo has resorted immediately to plan B ... yonce. The singer is starring in a new TV commercial for the WarioWare team's upcoming game, and spoke to Entertainment Weekly's The Music Mix blog about the game, although the interview got away from Rhythm Heaven and into general gaming fairly quickly.
"I have been having a great time," she said about playing Rhythm Heaven on-set. "I've been rehearsing for my [upcoming] tour in stilettos and uncomfortable corsets, learning all these arrangements. Today I was playing the game with my socks on, on the couch, and it was very relaxing!"
Beyonce told EW that she likes "all the Wii games," and that Rhythm Heaven reminds her of a portable Guitar Hero, "which is great, because I don't want to carry around a big guitar!" Perhaps somebody handed her Guitar Hero: On Tour instead of Rhythm Heaven?

Does this mean Jay-Z in Rhythm Heaven?
Markez @ Mar 19th 2009 12:06PM
The advertising formula for Nintendo as of late just seems to be "woman + couch + chuckles while playing" I mean, who are the ad wizards that came up with this one? Don't get me wrong, I think it's better than the 2 Japanese dudes driving around in the smart car. I wonder how much, if at all, these broads in the commercials actually play the games they're advertising.
Think this has got a April release date? Looks like it could be pretty damn cool, reminds me of Wario Ware Touched for the DS, which I had a good time with, so can't wait to see what kind of reception this gets.

Unfortunately the "woman + couch + chuckles while playing" model seems to be working, as offensive as it may seem to dyed-in-the-wool gamers like you and me.
Markez @ Mar 19th 2009 12:28PM
I don't find it offensive at all, just kinda curious.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Taylor Swift Defense Force, Gobot in disguise) @ Mar 19th 2009 4:33PM
HOW DARE SHE LAUGH! GAMES ARE SRS BSNS!

"Today I was playing the game with my socks on, on the couch, and it was very relaxing!"
Wow she plays the DS with nothing but socks on?!
...
i think i'll stop this comment here.

Lubriderm... LMAO!!! I laugh cause it's funny... I laugh cause it's true.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Mar 19th 2009 12:13PM
If she likes it, she should put a ring on it.
... Sorry.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Mar 19th 2009 12:24PM
In addition, you could also say that she's "Crazy in Love" with Rhythm Heaven.
Alright, I'll stop now.
Again; my apologies.
Feba @ Mar 19th 2009 12:16PM
of course it does nothing for gamers, but these commercials are probably one of the biggest reasons the DS has such a large female userbase.
Cody @ Mar 19th 2009 2:44PM
It really is amazing. I can't explain it. My girlfriend DESPISES videogames. Like eyerolling-induced despises of them. Can. Not. Stand. Them.
She picks up my DS off the shelf the other day when our power went out in the house and started playing Clubhouse Games. 3 days later and I can't pry the thing from her hands.
MRB1G @ Mar 19th 2009 12:28PM
YAY! my favourite celebrity on my favourite console, well done nintendo :-D
Jack_Jackington @ Mar 19th 2009 12:43PM
if she were more attractive, i'd still not care
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 19th 2009 12:52PM
Good, anything that gets her moving is fine by me :D
Mike @ Mar 19th 2009 12:59PM
She's upgrading that DS

Giroro @ Mar 19th 2009 2:00PM
It looks like she's holding a DSi . . . Couldn't have possibly been Guitar hero :\
Douche Bigalow @ Mar 19th 2009 2:01PM
Why do famous black women lighten their skin? And a followup question: HOW do famous black women lighten their skin? Is it some form of bleaching?
Mr.Slaughter @ Mar 19th 2009 2:20PM
Nah, it's just photographers who don't bother to change their light filter.
Cody @ Mar 19th 2009 2:47PM
facepalm @ Douche's comment.
Very appropriate username for the comment too. Where do you live central Nebraska??
Markez @ Mar 19th 2009 3:20PM
Serious facepalm, facedesk, and eyepencil. Some people don't know when to shut their mouths.
Douche Bigalow @ Mar 20th 2009 5:18PM
LOL, you liberal douchebags crack me up. Her skin is obviously lighter. I didn't lighten it, I'm just asking a question. She looked better before she changed her skin color - and I should know, I'm black!
Ridgecity @ Mar 19th 2009 2:34PM
Beyonce, Rhythm Tengoku or Rhythm Heaven as its now called is way better than Guitar Hero, you have a nice piece of ass but sure don't know your video games, which I find a intensely erotic characteristic on most women.
Saria the Cat @ Mar 19th 2009 2:42PM
Doesn't really do much for me.
Dante G @ Mar 19th 2009 3:23PM
I wonder how expensive it was to hire her for the ad. It's sure to do wonders for sales numbers. Too bad small publishers don't have the dough to pay for tv ads with famous people. It's odd only publishers with money can have ads to make even more money. Well, it's not odd, it's just the way the world is.
milan @ Mar 19th 2009 3:39PM
I'd love to see Judge Judy doing a Phoenix Wright advertisement.
Saria the Cat @ Mar 19th 2009 4:44PM
+1 to that!
Mr Khan @ Mar 19th 2009 3:45PM
Nintendo does seem to do a lot of celeb ads for the DS, though not for the Wii
xGearSecondx @ Mar 19th 2009 3:51PM
This.
Markez @ Mar 19th 2009 4:17PM
Yeah, now that you say it, the did the Animal Crossing commercial with a couple of randoms...
Jordan @ Mar 19th 2009 4:59PM
They're trying to market Rhythm Heaven to casuals?
...Yeeeeeeeah, good luck with that.
Setai @ Mar 19th 2009 5:39PM
For anyone who doesn't know yet, Amazon has Rhythm Heaven on pre-order for $24.99!
MRLN @ Mar 19th 2009 8:05PM
You can stare at the people dancing in this game for hours.
