DC Direct prepping Ratchet & Clank action figures

DC Comics toy line, DC Direct, is adding a familiar (but non-DC) property its upcoming action figure lineup: Ratchet & Clank. Consummate comics blog Newsarama managed to snag a first glimpse of the line, which DC unveiled at today's ComicsPRO 2009 industry event.
Prototypes of three series headliners -- Ratchet, Doctor Nefarious and Captain Quark -- have been shown thus far. What? Oh yes, Clank is a headliner, too. He's also one of three sidekick figures which we, er, figure will come packaged with their respective partners. DC Direct hasn't priced or dated the line as of yet, but you can see a high-res photo of its first (and possibly only) wave at the source link.

Bring it! WANT! Go DC, first the Universe Classics Line and then this!

now... where are my killzone figures?
Mein Bratwurst @ Mar 20th 2009 3:37AM
Killzone action figures would be awesome, though only if made by McFarlane. The detail on the Helghast helmet alone would be amazing. I can already picture the plastic oxygen tubes connecting to their suits.
steve @ Mar 19th 2009 11:56PM
Sweet, now all this series needs is a repectable movie to go with it. Its long overdue.
arrness @ Mar 20th 2009 12:07AM
I don't really think Ratchet & Clank can be made into a good movie, I like the series and all, and the design and video (especially ToD) would be good for a movie, but I don't think an engaging plot can be pulled off
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:33AM
trust me, an engaging plot could be pulled off from R&C. it's the quality of the movie that i don't think could be pulled off. if it's CGI, it's definitely possible though.
JoeTheBlow @ Mar 20th 2009 5:33AM
The cutscenes in the PS3 Ratchets, real-time i believe, were easily CGI movie quality already.
Not Pixar level, obviously, but certainly above shit like Bee Movie.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Mar 20th 2009 12:05AM
I didn't know the series were that famous,I think Crash is better known.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:23AM
ratchet is still held to high standards. crash fell many, many years ago.
Negativecool @ Mar 20th 2009 12:25AM
^^^ True, but a reinvention of the Crash series would totally be badass.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:34AM
the same could be applied to spyro and sonic. R.I.P. classic mascots - i salute your old games.
JoeTheBlow @ Mar 20th 2009 5:34AM
Crash was always a 2D game, ok it was into or out of the screen but still simple 2D anyway.
A "reinvention" would be like Sonic, a bad idea.

I wouldn't mind one to keep my Chimera company.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:39AM
mine's been hidden in my closet, away from the eyesight of my friends. if they saw it... *shudders*

Great, like I didnt have enough things keeping me from eating daily
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:38AM
you get to eat daily? i haven't eaten since tuesday. damn you Playstation Store!
PSN: Erdie (Now equipped with 360!) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:19AM
Also, I noticed in the back of the Resistance Retribution manual they have figures coming for that franchise as well.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:42AM
for resistance as a whole or just retribution?
PSN: Erdie (Now equipped with 360!) @ Mar 20th 2009 11:27AM
They show "Chimera advanced hybrid, Ravager, Steelhead and Nathan Hale with Leaper"
Anticrawl @ Mar 20th 2009 12:21AM
I want one Ratchet please. Also it would be fantastic if they would slow down with the breakneck speed of sequels (referring to how quickly they come out and how many they have) and take time to really work on a new platformer from scratch because that is what they are best at. Please stay out of the FPS business and do what you do best and the thing gamers have the least of on consoles - platformers.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:31AM
i would actually like to see them venture into new genres. they could probably make a great RPG and the PS3 certainly could use a new one. any new genre work from them in general could be a very great thing.
Anticrawl @ Mar 20th 2009 12:34AM
An RPG would be interesting from them, but nothing gritty. I want my worlds colorful and vibrant. I play games to escape the harshness of reality. But we do have a great lack of platformers on consoles and I hope they continue to make premium platformers as well.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:59AM
you're right. they do excel at creating vibrant worlds. it would be very welcome considering all the video games now are all focused on gritty war zones or post-apocalyptic futures. i guess that's what makes me love patapon and locoroco so much too.
Vidikron @ Mar 20th 2009 1:53AM
I've enjoyed the Resistance games, but at this point I'm inclined to agree. Either make another Jak game or start a new IP. I think the speed of sequals has been fine though. Even though the studio as a whole puts out one major release per year, they still take 2 years for each sequel. Not that fast or that slow really... seems somewhat average.
Almozd @ Mar 20th 2009 3:36AM
jak isn't made by insomniac so how would they work on jak complain to naughty dog about that but i like uncharted way more then jak i have all the jak games but thought it was one of the worse platformers on ps2
Vidikron @ Mar 20th 2009 9:27AM
Oh yeah, got them mixed up. So I'd say make a new IP then.
PSN: Erdie (Now equipped with 360!) @ Mar 20th 2009 11:30AM
Yeah, I'd agree with you people too. I do like Resistance, but if there's one thing we've got plenty of this generation, it's first person shooters. I know it was a launch title, and I don't think anyone knew outright that shooters would become so common, but still.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 12:25AM
they look great! i want them all! the ratchet figure is very detailed and clank looks great!
Discotheque @ Mar 20th 2009 12:46AM
I would wet my pants if Pixar made a Ratchet and Clank movie.
These figures are nice, I think I might pick up Ratchet/Clank sometime.
~Snipes~ (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Mar 20th 2009 1:00AM
btw, does that monkey have a name? i love him!
Jacksons @ Mar 20th 2009 11:32AM
Skrunch.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Mar 20th 2009 2:49AM
Looks great. I'll take one of each.
tystyck1982 @ Mar 20th 2009 5:53AM
Sweet
I'll be buying Clank as soon as they go live
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Mar 20th 2009 8:12AM
I think these figures look great but I was expecting Percival for the villian figure. If they were going with Dr. Nefarious, the midget figure should have been Clunk. I would give my left nut for a Courtney Gears figure though.
Jacksons @ Mar 20th 2009 11:39AM
I'll take one of each, except the Zoni. Damned little guys all say their name at once, stack amplitudes and blow your face off if you're wearing headphones.
Chazzer295 @ Mar 20th 2009 12:36PM
It's interesting to note that every character comes from the PS2 game, except the Zoni. It's also interesting to note that the Zoni will be packaged as Nefarious' sidekick, especially after the ending of Quest for Booty. Perhaps these are all characters from the upcoming, yet to be announced game, teased at the end of Q4B????
Meximanly @ Mar 20th 2009 1:46PM
♥ OMG must buy! ♥ Could this mean that Skrunch will also be making an appearance in the next R&C? I can't wait!
dannye812 @ Mar 20th 2009 6:22PM
Oh Hell Yeah! It's about time they release Ratchet figures.I totally agree they should also make a movie.
Kyouryuu @ Mar 20th 2009 10:57PM
This news made my day! I've always thought Ratchet would make a great action figure and I'm glad someone agreed. Do want. When do these come out? XD
