February NPD: Street Fighter IV, Wii Fit battle as Nintendo dominates hardware sales

tmacairjordan87 has got a point. Wii sales of these games are never anything to write home about. You would think that with some many people owning the system that at least more then 2 million out of the group would at least buy more of Nintendo's hardcore games. But the numbers stay in the hundreds of thousands. Third party games(Wii Fit excluded) usually have dismal sales. These numbers are pretty good for Killzone 2 though seeing that is only two days. I heard that in Europe there were at least 1.2 million copies of Kilzone 2 pre-ordered, so there is still that. And finally I noticed that Madworld and House of the Dead Overkill aren't even on the list even though everyone boasted that these were defining titles for the Wii.

on the bright side, KZ2 IS actually selling. and Street Fighter IV is kicking ass on the charts on both systems (YES!)

Wii Fit and the Nintendo Gang will not be de-throned. not even after articles like "The Truth About Wii Fit" on Yahoo. oh well the average consumer will believe anything.

Nosh: I've seen more ads for Killzone 2 (going on 12, I watch a lot of TV) than SSBB (once a week for 3 weeks), Gears 2 (only one, which is odd considering how I couldn't even pick up my remote without seeing the Madworld ad), and Halo 3 (about 5) combined. Just sayin'

Also, I don't recall any of those games being reviewed a month in advance or having fanboys going as batshit-insane to call anyone who gave it a perfect score biased against the company *COUGHCOUGHG4COUGHCOUGH*

How is NSMB still pulling those numbers? They better do another one, or base it off of SMW or DKC. Still my favorite game on the DS by far.

That's 5 months in a row that the PS3 has sold less than it did the previous year, and no MGS4 to save it this spring.

One fact that the Microsoftians really hate is that the Playstation brand always way outperforms the Xbox brand. 215K this time.

I'm thinking that this is attributed to CC's liquidation. Tons of consoles flew off the shelves at 10-20% off.

323,000 multiplied by $64.00
is over 20 million bucks.

I think Mad World will be a slow burn.
by the end of next month word of mouth will help this title a ton.

323k is a massive flop.

And FYI, the retailer gets a $15 cut of that price, since you added taxes the government gets their share, and money has to be spent on production, packaging, marketing, and distribution.

KZ2 cost roughly $47.5 million to develop, and another $10+ million in marketing, production and distribution. Over the years the cost has added up to somewhere around $60 Million.

So far it's generated about $14.5 million in gross income. In otherwords, it needs to sell around 4 times as many copies as it has before it breaks even. Europe will make up some of the difference, but it's seen the best month in sales it's going to get in the US.


Now, to put a little historical comparison to complete the picture.

Fable 2, a game that was not hyped for years and was not heavily advertised before release sold 700k copies in it's first 5 days, and it was competing against games like Fallout 3, Saints Row 2, and Dead Space. KZ2 has been hyped for 4 years, has had a significant advertising campaign, and it's only significant competition is against SFIV, and KZ2 came in with just 323k copies sold and was outsold by the multiplatform SFIV.

Come on. This is Sony's exclusive flagship game of 2009. Nothing else they have comes close to the hype and anticipation surrounding KZ2. This was Sony's best shot, and it wasn't even the #1 game on the PS3 for the month, nor did it create any significant increase in system sales.


You may want to deny that's a flop, but I can assure you none of the execs at Sony are pleased.

I've never seen people hate on a piece of machine as much as some of you. KZ2 sold 323k in two days in the NA region and it "flopped" because it didn't reach this imaginary line some of you fangirls put in place for it.

If it doesn't look bad in one area then you attack the other....reviews didn't turn out the way you wanted so you eye ball the sales...sales arent 7 million in one hour..FLOPPED!

Awesome news... Hopefully people will continue to play.. the Championship Mode patch should help too I think..

Profit can be measured with charts and graphs, but fun is subjective.

Why Disgaea 3, a much more enjoyable game for me than the first person shooter type games like Resistance 2, (I have not played Killzone 2, so I cannot judge it) does not sell as well as Killzone 2 by some reports, and gets less of a review score because it is a J-RPG strategy game, puzzles me. However it is interesting to see that Nintendo games like Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros. are still selling well.

I thought I made it VERY clear that I didn't want to hear anymore fucking shit from the Sony minions!!

Anyway, I wanted to make it very clear that I actually don't hate the PS3 at all, (I actually think it's a pretty decent system). Now what I actually fucking hate, and what really pisses me off, is the company that made the PS3, and all the brainwashed Sony minions that keep repeating Sony's bullshit rhetoric and lies.

Now we can all get in the magic time machine and go back to the time leading up to the PS2 launch, because that marked the start of Sony's new business plan to use lies and bullshit to sell their systems, and they have stuck to their clearly flawed plan ever since.

Sony can never just admit that they fucked up or that maybe their technology is not the 2nd coming of Christ, even know the proof is fucking them right in the face!!
