In a recent interview with GameDaily, SCEA Senior Vice President of Marketing Peter Dille responded to the multitude of rumors claiming the PS3 will see a price drop in the coming months. Simply put, Dille explained that Sony's profit strategy for the PlayStation brand "limits the playbook when it comes to pricing and promotion." Rather than talk about price cuts, SCEA is attempting to "communicate the value inherent in the PS3." (Blu-ray! Wi-Fi! Hard drive!)
Dille was hopeful that consumers will recognize said inherent value -- he dropped reminders of the PS3's prospective 10-year life cycle, explaining that the somewhat costly console will "stand the test of time." Now it just has to explain the concept of a gaming console's "life cycle" to the average, console-purchasing Tom, Dick and Harry, and Sony will be made in the shade.

man after beating killzone 2 which was hard and good, and playing a bit online, i started playing star ocean:last hope and wound up just beating that game and clocking in abut 50 hours playing it, which i enjoyed also...
they both showed that 360 and ps3 games will continue to get better IMO...
star ocean cut scene graphics are pretty tough to rival with IMO and the game was fun to play with their new action combat system which was used in infinite discovery also.
ill be back on killzone MP. it is fun to play.

At least it could actually make it 10 years. You are lucky to get 10 months out of a 360 that only plays DVDs.

my first one lasted 11 months... lol..
do they have a lifespan?
and the dust comment is not really holding true anymore.... like in 2009 there are looking to be more and better exclusives available on the ps3 and maybe so in 2010...
not to say that im not looking forward to many more 360 games also...

Talk is cheap.
When it comes to value, the only value most American consumers see are $$. These guys are notoriously cheap bastards...time to get that ps3 down in price, ASAP.

Let me get this straight...
If Sony doesn't do a price cut, they are doomed.
If Sony stays with the 10 year life-cycle, they are doomed.
If MS/Nintendo drop their machines in the next 3 years, everyone will buy their new system, so Sony is doomed.
If Sony comes up with a new system in the next 5 years, no one will buy it because the PS3 did so miserably, so they will be doomed.
And people don't want to spend on a $400 playstation, yet they would buy a $300 360 and spend another $400 on the next MS machine in a 6-7 year lifespan?
I... just... don't... understand... fanboys.
Whatever, let's talk about games. Each machine is awesome in it's own right, stop downplaying them.

Yes, if Sony doesn't do a price drop soon the PS3 is "doomed". maybe not completely, but it will certainly end up as the last place system with the least amount of system-specific developer support. Basically in the same boat as last-gen's Xbox.
Sony's 10 year lifecycle is already doomed, and even Sony knows it. They just keep spouting that line because it's the only thing they have to try to convince potential buyers that the paltform isn't completely doomed right now. But in 2.5 years MS will release their next-gen console, and assuming they launch with an "arcade" styled budget system at $300, that gives Sony less than 3 years to cut the PS3 price in half, or face having to compete with a next-gen console at nearly the same price. And let's be honest, who is going to spend $300 for a last-gen PS3 when the same $300 can buy them a true next-gen system?
If Nintendo and MS release a new system in the next-3 years, it will start next-gen all over. Not everyone is going to early adopt, but it will immediately put pressure on Sony to release the PS3 before MS and Nintendo have such a massive userbase lead that the PS4 will have no chance of competing when it does finally release. Figure Sony will be giving the competition a 10-15 million user lead for every year they wait. Not only would the PS3 be doomed by being priced too close to next-gen systems to compete, but the PS4 would be doomed by giving the competition such a huge lead that no developer is going to bother wasting extra time and money to support the PS4 beyond cheap ports.
If Sony releases the PS4 by late 2011 to 2012, at a launch price of $300-$400, Sony would be positioned to compete very well. People would definitely buy a superior PS4 at the same price or less than the current PS3. However, doing so would kill the PS3. Might not be a bad idea though, after all, killing the original Xbox worked well for MS.
And no, 4 years after the start of this current generation, nobody wants to spend $400 on a console when that is the same price as the most expensive console 4 years ago when the generation started. People expect consoles to be much cheaper this late in the game. Last gen every console was priced below $200 by this point. And yes, the people who have had consoles for 3-4 years already will be very willing to buy a next-gen console 3 more years from now.
You're talking about 2 entirely different groups of gamers here. Early adopters will always spend more money and buy systems soon after they release, people who wait 3-4 years after a system launches to buy one are very budget minded.
I don't see why that's so hard for you to understand. Or is the real problem that you have a hard time understanding why everyone won't spend $400+ on a PS3 like you did?

Every year since the PS3 has been available we have heard that saying that "this is the year of the PS3" and you know what, it never is. We keep hearing about this amazing lineup of games coming for the PS3 and nothing for the 360.
Really?
Off of the top of my head God of War3, Heavy Rain, the FF games and Uncharted 2 are the only games I've heard announced that interest me. Sure there will be more here and there, some of which aren't on my mind as I'm typing this (ohh, White Knight Chronicles) and of course someone is going to type a long list of games that YOU and Sony think everyone should be excited about & buy PS3's for but guess what, not everyone thinks those games are must haves. Contrary, I have a bunch of games I want of my 360/Wii that are coming up. To those of you with your lists of supposed AAA block buster must have exclusives for PS3 all I'll say is don't count your chickens before they hatch (you'd think you would've learned that lesson already) let's see what happens at E3 first.
The fact of the matter is the Playstation brand is/was associated with games. Period. It can have all the bells and whistles now that it want's to have but the fact is it doesn't have the games...at least not compared to it's main competition, the 360 which is kicking it's butt in more than one way. Sony went from owning mindshare and the market, to 3rd place...in one generation.
I guess we'll all work an extra job for that right?
I waited until KZ2 came out to get a PS3. My wife actually picked it up for me on Valentines day. I have several PSN games and then I also purchased MGS4, Uncharted, SFIV, KZ2, Heavenly Sword and LBP. As fun as these games are and as much as I play my PS3 imo, those are the only games on PS3 worth having seeing as how any multi-plat games either are better on 360, came out long before on 360 or if they are equal to the PS3 version so why pay for a PS3 to play them?
We keep hearing about RROD and yeah it sucks, I've had 3 360's myself but you know what, I never had to pay for any of the repairs or shipping and handling. They screwed up sure, but they paid for the mistake. How soon we forget the problems with PS1's and PS2's, I know I had several die on me and mysteriously not only were those numbers never released/acknowledged by Sony, they made you pay for them as well.
You can harp on RROD all you want but it says something when your customers continue to buy your broken hardware over the competitions and in droves. Sure, it pisses us off that they break, but the fact of the matter is it boils down too the games and the 360 has those in spades. Contrary to popular belief, not all nor most 360 fans are mouth breathing idiots who don't "get it". Most of the "extra" features that are in the PS3 I don't use, (nor do most people) not because I'm not tech-savvy, but because I wanted a game console and the one feature that I did want (backwards compat) isn't included with my new 80 gig PS3. I haven't bought a Blu-ray and I won't. They are too expensive to go back and re-purchase over the DVD's I already own that are upscaled on my 360 and I Netflix on my 360 not to mention HD downloads. It may not be 1080p but unless you have an HD monitor that's 51inches or more, you won't really notice anyway. Mine is 37 and looks amazing so I'm good to go. The idea that if you don't have 1080p top of the line this that blah, blah blah, is just that an idea. If you know what your doing, not only will you get equal too or awesome quality audio and video (yes I'm running optic outs in 5.1) but you save a massive amount of money for something that would've barely made a difference in the first place.
In the end as much as I love having a PS3 and playing it, If I weren't the gamer that I am and if I were hurting financially, I wouldn't have purchased it until it got a price drop. IMO it's price isn't justified. The online/online community is WAY better on 360 (you get what you pay for) and at least I have the choice of adding the extra features I want should I choose to and games look better or equal to those on PS3. KZ2 looks awesome, but best looking game ever? Not so much, Gears 2 looks better overall all IMO. The real beauty of that game are the technical achievements i.e., physics and the like (little details) but it's not anything you haven't seen before and in some cases it's done better elsewhere (Heavenly Sword has the best facial animations ever). The KZ2 website almost never works and the games online while fun is broken.
War perfected? Not Really.
Don't get me wrong, it's really fun to play but it's not the be all/end all that it's often made out to be.
With that being said, I'm a gamer first and I own all 3 consoles. Do I have a preference? Yes, I choose the 360 all things considered but I don't have to choose...I get the best of all three. We don't have to agree on everything or every point but at least be honest and civil.

you mentioned about 5 games that are worth getting for the ps3:
"God of War3, Heavy Rain, the FF games and Uncharted 2 are the only games I've heard announced that interest me (ohh, White Knight Chronicles) "
mention 4 or 5 worth it for xbox360 soon to be released.. I would add Heavy Rain to that list as well as MAG.. In fact mention 10 games that are must have games on the xbox360, just 10.. They have to be exclusives and I mean full games that I can buy on DVD... You were saying about the better game line up ?
Gears of War 2 looks good dont get me wrong, but KZ2 looks really good the engine is technically and graphically better, accept it its fact.. Not putting down epic as they produce amazing stuff.
As for the online. Here is where you are talking shit. LBP would not even be possible if it were not for the PSN. KZ2 has no lag, I have yet to encounter lag Resistance 2 I have not encountered any lag and thats on 60 player servers. It uses fixed servers not p2p. Geow2 had/has a broken multiplayer.. COD lags on both and thats because they use p2p so its Dependant on a a random players connection hence why the lag. Basically your talking complete shit here..
As for the multiplats.. burnout paradise has a lot of features that you dont get on the 360 such as linking into the pseye some cool stuff with that.. It was developed on the ps3 as lead and it is a joy to play. Also the ps3 controller is much better than the x360 for racing games.
DMC4 - the better version was the PS3 version, again the ps3 controller is what you want for this.
SFIV links into home and gives t shirts and stuff in home as prizes. Also the ps3 controller is much better than the 360 controller.
What else ? Prince of Persia, can access stuff from the web browser download extra content via the web broweser, cant do that on 360..
Oh yes and lets not forget you dont pay anything for the PSN and in many ways its better than xbox live. Enjoy the ps3, believe me as you use it more you will realise why it is the best games console of this gen.. While your at it download flower and let your wife play, she might like it, you will too :)

10years or not, I still think PS3 is a great value. If PS4 comes out, I could still use it as a media player streaming video through wifi and play blueray movies.

Like I've been saying all along...
Given blu-ray being the Victor in the HD format war the PS3 is set for this 10 year cycle. When everyone has a HD TV, and wants to watch HD movies AND play the BEST games (which will only fit on a blu-ray / run on a PS3) the console choice is going to be an easy one.
Especially whith the growing number of errorbox users getting sick and tired of returning / sometimes paying for their console to be repaired!!
MS's little dig of "we'll release the next errorbox the day after sony drop the PS4" will not happen. I give it a year, perhaps two, till Blu-ray movie sales overtake DVD and A-Grade games are only on Blu-ray. When that happens the errorbox will be a B-Grade console with B-grade games and will just not "cut the mustard."
To keep in the game MS need to get their sweaty little money grabbing hands on some cheap Blu-ray drives.
I'm very interested to see how much Sony will charge them to use it and in turn to see just how "cheap" the next errorbox will be!!!

"no way, Ecksbawks is teh best! Halo is teh roxorz, my mummy just buys me another ecksbawks when mine RROD's so i don't care, blu-ray is 4 teh loozerz!"
There usually tends to be a lot of that here.

Fallout 3 was rubbish!
It was nothing more than skinned Oblivion!!
I'm talking about A-Grade games like MGS4 and Killzone 2, and future games with Grade-A promise, like Heavy Rain, MAG and God of War 3.
EDIT: Trolling like kurazy!

Oblivion WAS a grade-A title on release, however gaming has moved on a LOT since back then, it just wouldn't stand up against current and near future titles.
Was the PS3 even out when the original Oblivion came out? I can't be arsed to look (plus I'm sort of at work)
Don't get me wrong, great things CAN be done with little data, but the BEST games require a lot of data. The more space the more potential.
I would like to see that link, because I'm extremely sceptical. - Prove me wrong.

I still think the PS3's fate when it comes to "standing the test of time" will come down to a few key factors:
1. Price. (You gotta get this thing in the the sub-$300 range NOW!)
2. Games. (Sony's 1st party library is now starting to look much more fresh and new in the future. 360 has, Gears 3? Halo Recon? Ummmmmm. Anything else NEW? I'd rather play Infamous, Drake 2, God of War 3, etc.)
3. The success of Blu-Ray (The recent economic turndown made things super hard on the Blu-Ray format, and with people pinching their pockets, the idea of a $250 movie player and $40 movies isn't exactly to attractive right now)
4. How long MS waits to launch their next console. (If MS doesn't bring anything new out until 2011/2012, then I don't see how the PS3 can't gain ground fast. 360 owners will be looking for something new and exciting, and right now Sony's offering it when it comes to unique 1st party content)
5. How quick the 360 gets down to the $100 price point. (If MS gets the 360 down below $150 within the next 9 months, the jig is up for Sony. This economy would eat a system like the 360 up at $150. MS would essentially be snatching up any remaining PS2 owners with a move like this, and there are ALOT of them)
If each of these things can continue to look brighter for Sony, then I still think ALOT of 360 owners that have been so pro 360 for all these years will start to pickup PS3's sheerly from boredom of the same old recycled games coming to the 360.
I've been a 360 owner since day one, and have never owned a PS3. You can bet your ass that if Sony gets the price down below $300, I'll definately be considering picking one up.

i agree with most of that except...
Price - The PS3 is well worth the asking price, you'll realise that within 1 week of using it. It's SO much more than a games console.
Blu-ray - correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the new Batman film sell fast on Blu-ray than DVD?
Agreed the recession is hindering Sony, but it's a crying shame when a far far (he's gonna say it!) SUPERIOR (I think most people agree, the PS3 is technically superior) console is lacking because of the worlds financial system collapsing! This is the moving forward of the gaming industry, and we're letting it be slowed by bankers taking risks. The reach of their mistakes is phenomenal.
I mean that argument must REALLY make MS proud, they must love the fact that they are selling more because people have got less money and can only afford to stick to cheap crap.

I wouldn't be so quick to claim Blu-Ray as the sole reason for a PS3 turnaround. There is one HUGE factor that Sony could have never taken into consideration, and that is the economy. Blu-Ray may have one the format war with HD-DVD, but that doesn't mean it's been successful by any stretch of the imagination. Player and movie sales have grown stagnant in light of the economic slowdown. People are making due with what they have right now, and I highly doubt that upgrading from a DVD player to a Blu-Ray player is at the top of most mainstream buyers lists right now. Sure, it's an attractive feature (I own a standalone, player and love it) but the general public is far from convinced that a Blu-Ray player is still a necessary thing to have.
The one major thing that MS has on it's side right now is price of console/available content. When you break it down to brass tacks, alot of people would choose the 360 for it's price point alone. Not to mention the huge library it brings with it. Sure, Blu-Ray movies look wonderful, but anyone who doesn't have a next-gen system at this point, doesn't have one because they were waiting for things to get cheaper. If they're waiting for things to get cheaper, they probably don't even have an HDTV yet, and if so they own a low-end one and Blu-Ray isn't as important of a feature as the $200 cheaper price tag.
If Sony gets the price down on the PS3, that changes everything. The question is how much? If Sony lowers their price, MS will just counter and drop everything $50, thus making the Arcade $150. That's a tough sell for Sony.

Sony really have made a total cockup of this gen so far. Let's have a look at their rap sheet
1. Overpricing the PS3
Yeah, you gotta try and keep your losses low but money has to start flowing IN from somewhere, why create such a huge barrier. Wasn't it Kaz who said "we must take risks to reap the rewards"? Well sony, drop the price! The 360/Wii are looking FAR FAR better right now considering what they can do (especially the 360 which is a force to be reckoned with gameswise comparing to the PS3 right now).
2. Giving Europe the screw you
Sony started off on a really bad note with Europe, first of all killing Lik-Sang for imports of PSPs and PS3s (not to mention SACKING THEIR EUROPEAN STAFF for doing it). Then we had giving Europe only Software BC and only the expensive SKU, then dumping all the old sixaxis controllers in game and controller bundles while the rest of the world were taking their DS3s out for a jolly good rumble in the hay. It certainly didn't go down well here, where the PS2 left a hardcore faithful.
3. Backward Compatibility: lol wut?
This speaks for itself, they took PS2 BC out. Even Software BC doesn't exist in new PS3s now, now you need another godamn box to run PS2 games, another TV connector with older cables. Honestly Sony, tons and I do mean TONS of blogs and comment tickers like this one constantly bitch you out for not putting it back in.. What's stopping you, stupidity?
4. Not removing the region locks for it's older games
Speaks for itself, but this is why I wish DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label EXTRA were being offically released in Europe for 360......because I can't get it on PS2.

Blu-ray will pick up, it's confirmed as the next movie / game media. Whether the economy is causing a slow down or not, as the economy picks up so will blu-ray.
No-one is going to design a different HD media now, blu-ray had it's foot in the door before the worlds financial system crashed.
Think of it like this...
The progression of technology is kind of on pause, it'll be pretty much as you left it when things pick up again, except for some smaller companies going under and bigger ones holding back, a whole lot more errorboxes having given it the RROD or the E74 and any users who are sick of that crap and can afford it will either stretch to a PS3 or will wait till things pick up and get one then.
Screw the PS3's price, it's WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY. You will figure that out when you've used it as your all in one entertainment system for a week. Believe me.

The "all in one entertainment" device thing doesn't really attract me that much, because the 360 really is an all-in-one device as well. I use my 360 to stream divx movies, music, photos, etc over my network. I watch netflix movies on it, the works. The only things I wish it had sometimes were a decent web-browser and of course a blu-ray player.
However, I've already got a standalone player, and the web-browser isn't THAT big of a feature. I'm sure I'd use the PS3 as an all-in-one device just the same, but what is more attractive to me are the games that Sony has coming down the pipeline in the next couple years.
I will say that I got my first RROD two weeks ago, and my system Elite is now out of it's one-year warranty period. The second MS expects me to drop $150 to get my 360 fixed, I am certainly buying a PS3. It'll be tough parting ways with L4D, but I think I'd live.

I see your point, but in europe at least, it's a case of the TV goes on with the PS3 - I don't even have anything else connected to my LCD or Surrond Sound.
Everything i, or my housemates could possibly want is on the XMB.
PlayTV made this so, it even records the programs that are on while you're gaming and turns the PS3 on specially to record something while you're out and off again once it's done. No more turning off the game so her indoors can watch Hollyoaks!!
Not to mention the brilliant Remoteplay. I can literally be at work, switch my PS3 on, from work and set it to record something on the TV. I just a moment ago used my remote play to message a Socom clan mate, from work, about a match tomorrow. The Sony set up puts a smile on my face everyday. I've not once regretted all the cash I've dropped on the set up, the £50 PlayTV was a brilliant purchase and once i fork out another £50 for a 500GB HDD I can use it to create a massive programme library!
My XMB is literally the start point for doing anything media based at home. No switching to TV, or the standalone player of anything. Once they bring the movie download service to the UK it really will be 100%.
1 and only thing - music while gaming, thanks for patenting that Microsoft, you underhanded crafty bastards. The games that allow it are cool though, got a special playlist for things like Wipeout HD. Rarely bothers me, but housemates would sometimes like to listen to my music while i'm gaming.
i can't imagine an errorbox handling being on as much as my PS3 is either, i would probably RROD it or melt it in a week! my PS3 get's hoovered every few months (in a room of smokers and dogs) and is 2 years old and quiet as a mouse too.
like I say, get a PS3 and a PSP and entertainment becomes a totally hassle free, fun, amazing experience.
God, i should go work for Sony's PR eh?!

Based on metacritic....
Gears of War (94% average)
Halo 3 (94% average)
Gears of War 2 (93% average)
Braid (93% average)
Mass Effect (91% average)
Forza Motorsport 2 (90% average)
Call of Duty 2 (89% average)
Left 4 Dead (89% average)
Fable 2 (89% average)
Project Gotham Racing 3 (88% average)
Total average of top 10 exclusives = 91%
There are 10 exclusives. Now would you like to compare to the top 10 PS3 exclusives to see which really has the better lineup?
Little Big Planet (95% average)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (94% average)
Killzone 2 (92% average)
MLB09: The Show (90% average)
Ratchet and Clank Future (89% average)
Uncharted Drakes Fortune (88% average)
Flower (87% average)
WipeoutHD (87% average)
Resistance 2 (87% average)
Resistance Fall of Man (86% average)
Total average of top 10 exclusives = 89.5% average
And to correct some of your lies, Burnout Paradise uses the 360 camera just like the PS3 camera, LBP would be possible on any console or the PC, KZ2's engine is neither technically nor graphically better than UE3, the 360 controller is MUCH better for racing games because the thumbstick is in the primary control position, and it has real triggers which allow for much better brake and throttle control.
And just for laughs, how many of those PS3 games get downscaled to 480p on 1080i only HDTV's? How many lack a custom soundtrack option which is available in every 360 game? How many lack trophy support?
Looks like you're wrong kiddo. Just a fanboy saying "my system is better than yours" even when the facts prove you are wrong.

Enough with the massive walls of text. No need to repeat yourself over and over saying the same shit time after time. We all understand your a 360 fucktard who can't accept that 21 million+ people have a PS3. You just want to use selective stats to feel better about your purchase. I'm happy with my PS3 and your happy with the 360. All is good in the world man. Your not going to change anyones mind with the hyperbolic bullshit argument. It's like you want to argue about opinions. You must have missed the part where Wally said "all the systems have their strengths and weakness's lets talk about games." You come in a thread about the PS3 lasting the test of time and flame everyone who like the PS3 or has a different opinion. It's shallow, pedantic and downright pathetic. You are truly a fanatical zealot. I'm starting to think you might even be a PAID shill.

A 1.5% difference is clearly a massive amount, therefore the 360 has a 'better' lineup...
You can show all the review scores you want but it means squat; a review is the opinion of one person, and a collection of about 90 reviews is the general opinion of 90 people - nothing compared to the total amount of gamers, who have their own opinions.
Basically what I am getting at is just because a collection of reviews gave one game a higher score than another one means jack all to every other person on the planet, because everyone has different tastes.
Again, your argument that the 360 controller is better for racing games than the PS3 controller is just an opinion - there are no hard facts concerning this.
"How many lack a custom soundtrack option which is available in every 360 game?" - Well, considering Microsoft own a patent for implementing custom soundtracks, it is pretty hard to get it in every PS3 game...
"How many lack trophy support?" - Yes, quite a few games do lack trophies, yet from the beginning of this year all games will have them, and a few older games have recieved patches anyway.
"Looks like you're wrong kiddo. Just a fanboy saying "my system is better than yours" even when the facts prove you are wrong." - Opinions, actually.

Isnt braid an XBL download (Can I buy it on DVD ? ) You cant even list 10.. Call of Duty 2 Are you serious ? Call of Duty 2 ? Seriously ? You want to come here and list that as an exclusive ? Mate seriously that just proves the list of exclusives the xbox360 has is nothing but bullshit..
GTFO the PS3 controller pisses on the x360 for anything but FPS' and even thats subjective and even then we have the splitfish for the ps3..
The 360 camera ?The 360 has a camera - is it for that shitty in the movies game ?
KZ2 engine is technically better go and do some research on it then come back to me.. Prove my statement is false, go on just prove it..
I have a 1080p TV and a 720p projector and most games run at 720p why would they be downscaled to 480p ? What messed up planet do you live on ? Are you an idiot that actually went out and bought a 1080i tv thinking that was the same as 1920 x 1080 progressive scanning ? Even then your 1080i tv should support 720p (1280 x 720 progressive) not 480p so again your talking out of your arse hole..
You see in that huge library you cant even list 10 proper exclusives without resorting to shit like Call Of Duty 2 you freaking dumb ass braid can I buy it on DVD ? You fail my man you failed big time..

look folks...sony has a point here. i know we all want the price to drop, but ultimately sony's machine has more "inherent value" than any other and sony really needs to start pushing that idea. consider that out of the box a basic xbox360 has NO wifi, no bluray, no free online, no hdd, but DOES have a chance of a red ring of death. you really are making a BETTER INVESTMENT by getting a ps3. bluray really is the new way and for all those people who haven't yet entered the next generation (ie wii users lol!) it makes more sence to put down $200 into a machine thats gonna be worth it's weight in salt in the long term.
and thats a critical point here. there's still a ton of people out there who aren't really in the next gen of hd gaming. sure there are plenty of 360 owners but all those people who are using the wii are gonna get bored in a couple years and probably wanna get another system. now are they gonna wanna spend money for a console that is mostly comprised of fps and sports titles or are they gonna wanna INVEST in something that will be their primary movie player (just like ps2 was the primary dvd player for many people) and that will ultimately have a more eclectic choice of games?
and thats where the ps3 will eventually checkmate the xbox360. remember ps3 is still doing great in japan..unlike the 360 which is virtually non existent. even if ALL the US developers said "forget the ps3" we'd still have PLENTY of titles coming from japan to be localized. and ...hey isn;t that where games have primarily came from since the beginning? YES. so the ps3 is gonna be fine...but sony is right. they need to really get across this idea that the ps3 is the better investment. i just entered the next gen finally this past month. got myself a Gunmetal gray ps3 bundle for $399.96 from amazon (score! the deal is over now tho sorry folks!) and couldn't be happier. and the fact that online is free has allowed me to download a ton of free demos of games i really just wanted to check out for a few minutes and then have that curiosity out of my system. no need to rent or buy and then be disappointed! which in the long run saves me and u money...and makes developers have to work harder to put out better games. if i had to PAY for xboxlive i;d feel like i'd PAYED for demos. wtf is that!?
now of course i waited a couple years , and saved up. but just because i entered the fray 2 years into the ps3's life doesn't mean the ps3 can't catch up. and i think your all gonna see what i;m talking about once more people decide to get into the next gen. people are broke right now, but hopefully things will turn around. and i really think sony can catch up even without a price drop this year. it SHOULD get one. but really what peole need to realize is that sony's machine is the most reliable, most powerful, and truly the best INVESTMENT.

and thats a critical point here. there's still a ton of people out there who aren't really in the next gen of hd gaming. sure there are plenty of 360 owners but all those people who are using the wii are gonna get bored in a couple years and probably wanna get another system. now are they gonna wanna spend money for a console that is mostly comprised of fps and sports titles or are they gonna wanna INVEST in something that will be their primary movie player (just like ps2 was the primary dvd player for many people) and that will ultimately have a more eclectic choice of games?

Chris,
Are you saying that some how $400 is less than $199 + $80 for an extra HDD?
Can you tell me exactly how much memory a saved game uses? How many game saves can you put on a memory card?
Even *if* the customer we're talking about was close to maxing out their memory card, do you think they need to keep ALL the saved games they have on it?
Just like books, most people don't finish games. Even if they did finish it, there really isn't much replay value to them unless you're trying to get the rest of the achievements. Why do you think the USED games business is so big?
Food for thought.

I for one am making significant progress on Ninja Town on DS right now, but to be honest there was a time in my life where I was unable to complete games. As for books, I am 50 pages away from finishing Obama's "Dreams of My Father".
I always kept games for archival purposes so that when a time in my life came when I would somehow become more able to play games, I would be able to. So far I have completed ten games. I only remember what three of them are, Fire Emblem (GBA) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, and I remember beating Mole Mania on my Game Boy.
Young boys play video games, as do young girls, but only real men and women with the balls and ovaries to triumph over the challenges ever beat these video games.

My old PS2 console is still running smooth and I'm sure that the PS3 will make its prospective 10-year life cycle.

" According to Redhill Group, who compiled data for Home Media Magazine, over 11 million Blu-ray discs have been sold since the format launched in 2006. Sales have quadrupled since this time last year, and early sales data for May suggests that more titles have been sold in the first five months of this year than all of last year combined. "
---
"New data from HMR Research shows that the 9 million movies have been sold on Blu-ray since inception of the format in the United States, with 3 million of those having been sold during the first 11 weeks of this year. If this trend continues, Blu-ray is poised to sell nearly 15 million units in this year alone."
---
"The Walt Disney Company said that even despite of the fact that sales of Blu-ray discs (BDs) represent only a fraction among sales of movies, the new-generation high-definition media will overtake conventional DVDs in just two years from now.
“Consumers will adopt the new technology much sooner than we think. It's right on the verge of becoming really big in the U.S., where in two years Blu-ray will eclipse DVDs,” said David Jessen, Disney vice-president of Blu-ray and DVD creative production, in an interview with the Toronto Star news-paper."
---
...... so. Im guessing PS3 is right on track with being superior tech'ed and prepared for the future and its 10 year life span. And to be honest i'd say that the PS3 could go strong against the XBOX720 and Wii2. So I dont see any reason to release an entirely new console (PS4) any time soon. Its way to soon.. im still experiencing new ways to work with my PS3. And all new projects released for the PS3 is in development stages.. so I, unlike most of you e-experts, dont see a PS4 any time soon.

Thank you.
I don't understand how people can buy an errorbox, mostly because it's cheap, then go online ranting about how it's better than a PS3? - it just makes no sense.
Blu-ray is by no means the ONLY reason PS3 will succeed in the long run, it's one of many reasons, but it's a damn good one.
A buddy of mine finally ordered his PS3 yesterday. Another person who appreciates a quality console.

SexualChocolote,
Be careful what you wish for, because you did just get it..
yeah another little rabid 360 fanboy fuming about his l33t dvd xbawks360 that will give him an E74 message and he has to run to mummy to request another 360..
I actually went onto the 360 section of joystiq today.. Man its horrific and people want to say the bluray drive is unnecessary on the ps3 - thats your only argument ?, come back to me when your 360 stops pumping out e74's or RRODs.. How can you even justify defending that console ?..

You know what I loved:
"we are reminded of former Microsoft executive Peter Moore's request that we not focus on the Xbox's problems, but rather on the quality of the repair service"
So we shouldnt pick up on the fact that the xbox360 is a piece of shit, thats what
Peter Moore is basically saying..
Also the fact that the E74 is basically the RROD rebranded to charge for repairs, lovely Microsoft. Yet and still your loyal fans are bending over waiting for the shafting..

Reinstate backwards compatibility, and you may have some value for a guy who started home-consoling with the PS2.

Trust me, once you've got a PS3 you will never play your PS2 games.
I've had my BC launch model PS3 for 2 years now and I've only ever put one PS2 game in it, and that was a buddy of mine who kind of fears change wanting to play the old mercs to see how it compares to the new one!
The new games are worlds ahead of the PS2 games, there's just no reason to bother. Generally there's a current Gen sequel to most of the PS2 classics.
Not only that but once PS2 sales drop off Sony WILL release PS2 games for download onto those lovely easily swappable, nice and cheap laptop hard drives.
I couldn't spend MS's asking price on a "special" HDD, it's disgusting.

You say that as if I'm into shooters or action-platformers. I play RPGs, primarily Final Fantasies, Xenosagas, and Persona 3 FES (after that, I intend P4). We do enjoy ATV Offroad Furies 2 & 3 (4 nerf'd us by eliminating Free Ride). Heck, PSP's playable on the TV and it's got more inherent games I wanna play (mostly ports).
Would like to try somma dat Flower, though.
