It's been quite some time since we last heard anything on the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 front, aside from a trailer loosed at last month's NY Comic Con. Today, however, Marvel has revealed a new character in "Songbird," an ex-female wrestler turned supervillain turned superheroine, whose main superpower is -- and we're not kidding -- "enhanced vocal cords."
Pictured above, Songbird "fuses" with Iron Man to produce ... what precisely, we're not sure ... though Marvel's Steve Nelson assures us that "fusions are BIG," (his caps, not ours). Mr. Nelson continues on the Marvel website, saying, "Songbird solidifies sound waves into objects, which she can use for a number of purposes on the battlefield ... one of our concept artists, Dave Phillips, came up with a really stunning piece of art for her 'wings,' and we ended up basing the look of her powers largely on that." Looks as though Songbird will not only be able to solidify sound waves and toss 'em at foes but also do so while flying high above their heads. Who knew strong vocal cords could do so much?

Nope, sorry.
The version of Black Canary with basically the same powers as Songbird did not make her appearance until after Songbird was already introduced in the Marvel Universe. So she's more like the Songbird ripoff.
*cough cough*

Songbird's first appearance: 1979.
Black Canary's first use of the Canary Cry: 1969.
Of course, that's the biological Cry. The current Cry was introduced in 1999, but it's just a new origin for basically the same power. Canary wins (Black Canary > pretty much all other comic heroes).
You've been nerded.

I don't want to get into a big thing here, but if we're going to be coughing about things ripping off other things, then I have to get my nerd on. Songbird doesn't actually have the same power as Black Canary (that of emitting a powerful sonic blast). She did in her original villainous incarnation as Screaming Mimi, but now her powers involve creating solid objects out of sound. She sings or hums or whatever and makes big pink wings to fly, or shields and cages and so on.
So I guess if anything, she's a Green Lantern rip off.

I know what you're thinking, Senor Bagels. Yes, getting downvoted in the comments section of a post on Joystiq for no apparent reason IS the equivalent of being doused with gasoline and lit on fire. All I can do to help assuage the situation is offer you words of condolence. Everyone here at Joystiq wishes you a speedy recovery.
Oh, and also, I have no idea why you were downvoted. Maybe these folks don't like the cut of your jib? Eh? EHHHH? ;D

Did anyone play the Wii version? I never got around to playing that one.
Was it any good?

I played it and it could've been better. Not that the game itself became worst, but the "Wii-Controls" were made unnecessary. In a game where you're constantly tapping the same buttons over and over again, twisting your wrists and hands to match these motions over and over again became annoying.

More like a Banshee ripoff. She's actually a real Marvel heroine, BTW.

I'm confused when you say Banshee rip off if you mean the mythical irish ghost or the X-man banshee, or his daughter Siren?

As for Songbird... anyone else think her wings look like a butterfly's wings?

If the game has Green Goblin, Bullseye and Radioactive Man, I will be very happy. Though I'm sure Penance would be a more likely bet, but that's ok, too. Just as long as I get my Thunderbolts team.

Songbird?! *Sigh*
If anybody from the T-Bolt team was to be put in the game, it should be either Zemo or Penance. Having to play Songbird's training disc will be like playing Elektra's or Sue Storm's from the first MUA, not fun. That's one achievement I'll pass on.

I can kinda understand what they are trying to do but she is just a second tier character that is just recently getting some face time in Dark Avengers and even that isnt anything to rejoice about. Personally I think she sucks I agree with a couple other people about her character is to much like Black Canary but what can you do its a comic book world and there are going to be similarities between DC and Marvel.
